David Haslam: “Does Srila Prabhupada still answer letters?”

May 17, 2010, Bhaktivedanta Manor, Letchmore Heath/Watford – Today at the end of mangala arati it was announced that the class was to be given by HDG Srila Prabhupada but due to a wedding it would not be held in the temple room but upstairs as there was a devotee wedding and they needed to prepare the temple room for the wedding.

A flood of emotions ran through my body and my mind was disturbed we had invited Srila Prabhupada our founder Acharia to give class but then tossed him out of the temple room as if he was not important; that a wedding was more important that class had to be sidelined. Emotions spilled over I just wanted Prabhupada to give class in his rightful place in the temple room he loved so much isn’t that the best place to hear him speak?

I wrote Srila Prabhupada a letter returned to the temple room and left it by his feet it simply read.

Dear Srila Prabhupada,

My mind is disturbed you have been so kind to us but today you cannot give class in the temple room due to a wedding, I feel sad that after all you have done we cannot give you the time to talk about Krishna in your temple room.

But I may also be offending by feeling that the wedding of your devotees is less important

Please clarify and give me peace of mind and if any offense caused please forgive my ignorance

I just wish to hear from you in your temple room so Krishna can hear you serving him nicely

Many devotees came and although they did there service and even adjusted his clothes the note remained next to his feet, please don’t remove it till Prabhupada has read it was my pray I just desire to hear your voice here in this temple room so Krishna can listen and know how you are serving him so nicely and the mercy you have shown us.

Then the announcement there is a correction the class will be given here in the temple room not as previously announced; my heart leapt for joy, I could listen to Srila Prabhupada in his temple room he had read my note.

I desired to fan him during class but due to the desire of others to serve him nicely I couldn’t; but I guess Srila Prabhupada was holding me to my letter and making sure I sat and listened.

Any ways some may think Srila Prabhupada didn’t reciprocate and read my letter, but it’s my story and thats how it ends he did and when ever I’ve written him a letter and left it at his lotus feet there has never been to much of a wait.
