He is  the man who believes that millions of Britain’s pensioners are, to put it bluntly, taking up too much space.

Last week Angus Hanton and his Labour-backed think-tank launched a report saying that ‘empty nesters’ should be ‘encouraged’ through a new land tax to downsize. This, it was argued, would help make room for younger generations.

Not surprisingly, the proposals caused anger and concern among older people – most of whom until last week probably hadn’t heard of Mr Hanton or his Left-leaning group, the Intergenerational Foundation, which is championed by Shadow Minister for London Tessa Jowell.

After hearing him outlining his radical ideas on the radio, they might have spared a thought for Mr Hanton’s own elderly parents. What kind of shoebox dwelling did he have them holed up in?

In fact, The Mail on Sunday can reveal that Alastair and Margaret Hanton live alone in a £1.5 million five-bedroom home in one of London’s most desirable suburbs.

So has their son – himself a father of four who, incidentally, lives with his family in an £850,000 house nearby – tried to harangue them into vacating it?

After all, his organisation’s report, Hoarding Of Housing, says there are 25 million unused bedrooms in England alone and eight million ‘under-occupied’ homes.

‘While younger families are increasingly being squeezed into small flats and under-sized houses, older people are often rattling around in big houses with many bedrooms standing empty,’ it adds.

Last night, after conceding  that they fell into the category of OAPs targeted by their son – the  so-called ‘bedroom blockers’ –  Mr Hanton senior said: ‘I don’t think I should comment.’

Meanwhile, asked about his parents, Mr Hanton, 52, said: ‘Well, they use their house quite actively and they have a lot of guests to stay.’

On his group’s website Mr Hanton says he is ‘an economist and entrepreneur’. He neglects to mention he runs a thriving company selling plots of woodland, often to wealthy buyers taking advantage of tax sweeteners for forestry owners.

And while his report suggests exempting older people from stamp duty when they move to smaller homes, he is just as keen to help his affluent clients avoid it, too.

Speaking in 2002, he said: ‘Most woodland we deal in is worth less than £60,000 to avoid stamp duty.’

Woodland owners are also exempt from capital gains tax, income tax and inheritance tax on their investment.

The suggestion of a new land tax designed to encourage downsizing attracted widespread disgust.

Television writer Jan Etherington described Mr Hanton’s report as ‘bullying, patronising and downright offensive’.

Michelle Mitchell, of the charity Age UK, said: ‘No one of any age should feel they have to move out of their family home unless it is what they want to do.’

And Dr Ros Altmann, director of the Saga group, said: ‘The family home is about more than just bricks and mortar. It’s unhelpful to point to older people who live in  a three-bedroom house and say they don’t deserve to be in it.’

Others argue that many older people choose not to downsize because they want space for their grandchildren. And some over-65s point out that if they start buying smaller homes they will deplete the stock of more affordable housing available to younger buyers.

But the report’s co-author Matthew Griffiths said: ‘It is perfectly understandable that retired people cling to their home long after it has outlived its usefulness as a place to bring up a family in.

‘But there are profound social consequences of their actions.’

When Labour was in power, it tried to persuade older people in council homes in London and other cities to exchange them for smaller social housing in seaside towns.

But Ms Jowell is the first Labour MP to demand that older people vacate privately owned homes to make room for families.

She said: ‘This important report shows in stark relief how young people are struggling to raise a family in a home of their own.’

PS: And will he be in a hurry to leave his own £850,000 place up the road?

In THE LAWS OF MATERIAL NATURE Prabhupada says, TEXT 15:

“Thus he remains at home just like a pet dog and eats whatever is so negligently given to him. Afflicted with many illnesses, such as dyspepsia and loss of appetite, he eats only very small morsels of food, and he becomes an invalid, who cannot work any more.”

PURPORT: Before meeting death a man is sure to become a diseased invalid, and when he is neglected by his family members, his life becomes less than a dog’s because he is put into so many miserable conditions. Vedic literatures enjoin, therefore, that before the arrival of such miserable conditions, a man should leave home and die without the knowledge of his family members. If a man leaves home and dies without his family’s knowing, that is considered a glorious death. But an attached family man wants his family members to carry him in a great procession even after his death, and although he will not be able to see how the procession goes, he still desires that his body be taken gorgeously in procession. Thus he is happy without even knowing where he has to go when he leaves his body for the next life.

Therefore old or young generation they will do the same mistake unless they practice, ante narayana smrti, by chanting Hare Krishna to attain perfection – that’s all

  2. Nowadays, aluminum and long-term effects of many purposefully introduced environmental poisons are leading to an Alzheimer’s disease epidemic. Even CHILDREN nowadays; there are many cases! The globalist demons wish to reduce the world’s population and meanwhile dumb down any objectors or opposition by the same populations. “they create horrible unlcean works meant to destroy the world” – Gita As It Is.

The cancer rate is now 100%; EVERYONE who lives long enough will contract cancer. Therefore, in all it seems by far a better plan to go on long austere devotional pilgrimages or reside simply in the Holy places, and thus quit this world, not like the cats and dogs, hanging on to every last ounce, but in a spirit of renunciation of bodily attachment. Better to engage fully in devotional service and let nature take its course earlier rather than later, when the purposefully introduced illmesses take place.

They have timed the cancer cells such that when the hormone levels reduce in older years, the cancer cells can then break out, just as you age. Then, they sell you Raid bug-spray literally as cancer treatment for 50,000 dollars to try to treat the disases they caused in the first place. Thus, they suck the last juice out of the slaves befoe they are eliminated. Srila Prabhyupada wished to go on parikrama of Govardana Hill rather than languish.

In this case, poverty created to enrich banksters has left the world in dire circumstances. So what is the plan ; kill off the old folks! Sterilize the women and tun the men into wimps by use of chemicals in the food such as Bisphenly-A, fluoride, polysorbate 80,GMO’s, vaccine mercury, aspartame, MSG, etc. In this regards, see Agenda 21 of the U.N.

These governmental and uber-governmental planners are all demons no doubt, and their murderous plans are being revealed worldwide, hence such movements as Occupy Wall Street etc.

Our only and best hope is to chant Hare Krishna, and resist oppression with harinama sankirtana and widespread preaching.
