“I wish to send some free copies to George Harrison for distribution”

19 June, 1970, Los Angeles: My Dear Syamasundara, please accept my blessings. I have not heard from you since a long time, and I think you are now very busy on account of Rathayatra festival.

I hope you are all well with your good wife, Malati, and daughter, Sarasvati. Your good daughter’s photograph catching my hand is published in our Handbook of Krsna Consciousness which is to be printed very shortly containing the calendar and important information of our activities.

Brahmananda has gone to Japan to complete the KRSNA book. Everything is going alright. A few copies will be ready by the Rathayatra, and I have advised him to send you 25 copies to begin the sales from Rathayatra auspicious date. The balance books will be ready for dispatch by the 20th of July, 1970. I have decided to send you 2,500 copes for sale.

And also I wish to send some free copies to George Harrison for distribution amongst his intimate friends as he likes. So please let me know by return post how many copies will satisfy him. I know that he has many friends, but I will be ready to supply him free copies not exceeding one hundred. So please reply this point immediately.

Recently I have made some songs recorded of course in Bengali. If you so desire, I can send them for George.

Hope this will meet you in good health.

Your ever well-wisher,
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

    The spiritual breadman.
Again the world sees a wonderfull peace of art from the greatest devotional artist we ever have seen the last 100 years. Sir George who represents his sweet lord Govinda like nobody bevor him. And beside Srila Prabhupda nobody gave more Krishna to the world than him. Yes, lets praise the lord and his beloved lover. His music has the power to clear away the tears of heaven and melt our hearts with devotion. He is the lords beloved friend, who takes us on a magical-mystery tour way back home, back to godhead, if you believe, if you believe in him. Om Sir George Sri Haris son Om Hari Om

It’s not surprising that Srila Prabhupada considered George Harrison quite advanced in spiritual life, in spite of the fact that he was surrounded by so many worldly allurements such as fame, women, wealth and drugs etc. He was a very masterful musician and word-smith with songs like ‘Here comes the sun’, ‘Give me love’ and my personal favourite ‘Beware of darkness’ the latter of which is rendered magnificently by Eric Clapton at ‘The Concert For George.’ These lyrics really reveal the perception that George had understood about the World and his own spiritual journey.

His association (or should I say…vice-versa) with Mukunda Swami and Syamasundara Das would have left little impression on him spiritually though, as these personalities were probably more interested in bathing in the lime-light of George Harrison than anything else. Mukunda Swami seems more interested in ‘sitting on the fence’ and ‘writing his memoirs’ and attending ‘mundane reminiscences’ of the early days of ISKCON and The Mantra Rock Dance, than properly representing Srila Prabhupada in a capacity which should reflect his position as a sannyasi. His mundane articles on World peace etc are always suited to the ‘sanitized and acceptable’ mush of a retired, impotent, burnt-out old Ex (“Emeritus”) GBC lightweight.
