July 28, 2012 by Madhudvisa dasa, Krishna.org: Once it was possible to find copies of original editions of Srila Prabhupada’s Srimad-Bhagavatams in second-hand book stores and on internet book websites but now the original editions of Srimad-Bhagavatam have become very difficult to find anywhere. So there is an urgent need to preserve these valuable books for future generations.
We see the BBT making thousands of unauthorized changes to so many of Srila Prabhupada’s books in this way completely destroying the authority of the books. Srila Prabhupada’s Srimad-Bhagavatam has remained relatively free from such changes for many years but now, with the release of the BBT Folio 2012 edition, we see the BBT have now produced a new and “updated” version of Srila Prabhupada’s Srimad-Bhagavatam complete with thousands of unauthorized changes and what the BBT consider are ‘improvements…’ Now they are even changing Prabhupada’s words in the Folio to what they think Prabhupada should have said…
The BBT are determined to change Prabhupada’s books. They have not heard the outcry from the devotees about their unauthorized changes to Bhagavad-gita, Krsna Book and Sri Caitanya-caritamrta. They have not leaned from their mistakes, on the contrary according to one of the main BBT editors in recent years they have given us new, “improved”, revised editions of Srila Prabhupada’s Nectar of Instruction, Beyond Birth and Death and Perfection of Yoga and now they also have a new version of Srimad-Bhagavatam. I do not know if they have actually printed this new unauthorized edition of Srimad-Bhagavatam but it is included in the 2012 release of the Folio Infobase.
It is essential that we at least preserve the original teachings of Srila Prabhupada for future generations so as followers of Srila Prabhupada we all have to take this responsibility very seriously. At least we can not fail in handing on in tact and unchanged the original teachings of Srila Prabhupada to future generations. That is the least we can do for Srila Prabhupada.
You will find links below to PDF files that contain actual scans of original editions of Srila Prabhupada’s Srimad-Bhagavatam. Some covers are missing and they will be added when they are available, but otherwise you will find the complete book including all the original color plates. These are large files (500 – 1000 megabytes) because they contain actual scans of the original book pages. So it is an exact electronic copy of the original volumes of Srila Prabhupada’s Srimad-Bhagavatam.
So if your internet connection allows you please download these PDF files so you have the original first-edition of Srila Prabhupada’s Srimad-Bhagavatam, at least in electronic format.

I have a complete set of original Srimad Bhagavatam in the original large format version.
I would like a downloadable version of Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita if it is available. Thank you for doing this service of preserving the original books!!!
Thank you for these original books and download versions. Can be downloaded to e-book too?
More downloads of Srila Prabhupada’s transcendental books are available at http://www.krishnapath.org
There you can find Sri Caitanya-Caritamrita, also Srimad Bhagavatam and many other books as PDF or EPUB files.
“There you can find Sri Caitanya-Caritamrita, also Srimad Bhagavatam and many other books as PDF or EPUB files.”
These are available in many sites. They are all unauthorised editions, ie: revised.
Most sites mix fact with fiction, thus muddy the water.
The above is the only on-line version of the authorised SB.
CC is yet to manifest on our screens.
PAMHO AGTSP!
Bhakta Hugh prabhu, is incorrect when he says about Krishnapath.org’s books:
“They are all unauthorized editions, ie: revised.”
This is not true.
I personally as well as others have voluntarily with no form of payment or renumeration have tirelessly worked on the content of that website for countless sleepless nights and days to make these original books available to the world for free download.
For years thousands upon thousands of devotees have downloaded those authorized books for free from Krishnapath.org and shared them with their friends, many have reposted them for download on their own websites. So yes, now the original books of Srila Prabhupada are available for download from all those websites too.
I do not wish to discuss this any further
Thank you.
Hare Krishna!
PS:
Nothing in this world is pure or perfect, that is the nature of this place. So we may make mistakes in our efforts. If you find specific faults on a website I humbly suggest that you contact the webmaster of that site directly. I know that Krishnapath.org’s personal email is at the bottom of every one of its pages and in addition to that there is a “feedback” tab on the right side of every screen. So why not start there? Mud slinging on public forums about people or websites without first approaching them is not helpful to anyone but simply makes devotees upset. If you have any particular issues or find some specific problems and bring it to the attention of the devotees that run a website I am sure that they will be happy to try to fix any issues and even be very grateful and appreciative for the feedback!
As you may know running a website with a large amount of content is a very difficult, tedious and time consuming job even if your trained in code etc. and Krishnapath.org is a free nonprofit site that is done completely by volunteers that are just like me and you – imperfect.
So I encourage you and anyone else to in the future, please directly bring your concerns up with the web-masters of a website instead of making accusations on other peoples websites without their knowledge or even first bringing the matter to their attention to try to resolve.
Here is an example, just to give you an indicator of how to know
whether it is authorised CC or changed version.
All on-line versions which claim to be 1974 can be exposed within the
first few lines as being false.
Preface bonafide 1974 CC;
At the conclusion of the Ninth Chapter of Bhagavad-gita, Lord Krsna
directly says: “Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, offer
obeisances and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely
you will come to Me.” (Bg. 9.34)
Note this is McMillan Gita.
Preface bogus 1974 CC;
At the conclusion of the Ninth Chapter of the Bhagavad-gita, Lord
Krsna directly says, “Engage your mind always in thinking of Me,
become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me, and worship Me. Being
completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.” (Bg. 9.34)
Note this is Jayadvaita’s revised rendition.
Just a few lines further there is ….
Preface bonafide 1974 CC;
If one desires to understand the sun as it is, one must first face the
sunshine, then the sun globe and, after entering into that globe, come
face to face with the predominating deity of the sun.
Preface bogus 1974 CC;
If one desires to understand the sun as it is, one must first face the
sunshine and then the sun globe, and after entering into that globe,
*one may* come face to face with the predominating deity of the sun.
Perhaps if the webmaster’s spent a few more sleepless nights.
This time *checking their content for authenticity*.
We would find less dis-info on this subject, on-line.
Dear Bhakta Hugh Prabhu,
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
I will pass on your question of weather or not the CC for free download on Krishnapath.org is a pre78 version or not to the proper person and this WILL be resolved. You can (as per my original humble suggestion) stay up to date with this issue by simply sending an email to info@krishnapath.org and asking to be informed of the issue when it is resolved.
I am sure if it is not a pre78 edition at the least they will put a note specifying such so that everyone is clear of this and does not think that it is a pre78 version if it is not.
Do you have a digitized pre78 CC that you would like to submit if in fact it is not a pre78 edition?
To my knowledge non of the volunteers of krishnapath.org spend time reading the comments on this website. So if you want to be part of the solution and help to promote the original books of Srila Prabhupada instead of someone that just sits around and criticizes others behind their backs then I am sure everyone would appreciate you.
Krishnapath.org is dedicated to freely giving out Srila Prabhupada’s original books for free and as already mentioned no one is perfect (except Srila Prabhupada) and you have already been requested to use the feedback tab on the Krishnapath.org website to directly resolve this issue.
but you did not do this instead you chose to go behind peoples backs and simply criticize them this does not help make things better what to speak of getting more of the original books distributed this only frys devotees out. all the volunteers of Krishnapath.org work very hard and are not perfect so yes someone may have made a mistake and if you want to help to make things better instead of just criticizing others behind their bak then your help is welcomed!
I personally worked on the original 1968 TLC and the original macmillan gita on Krishnapath.org for free download and know that these books are originals and before Krishnapath.org released that 1968 original TLC there was no digital version of that book anywhere on the web. Then others downloaded it from Krishnpath.org and then reposted it on their website so your false accusation of “They are all unauthorized editions, ie: revised.” is incorrect. If you would have simply contacted Krishnapath.org first then you would not be so misinformed. I am not involved in the rest of the books for free download I am just a helper on that site so I will pass on your accusations to them and let them look into it.
Let me just place one point for you to consider. In the future, instead of criticizing others behind their backs why not first inquire into the situation to see if your observation is correct (you are incorrect when you say “They are all unauthorized editions, ie: revised.”) then if there is some truth to what you say ether partly or wholly then why not offer your help to fix the situation and make a friend? No one likes being attacked and since we all are for the origianl books here why fight amongst our selfs??? This makes no sense to me.
Why not unite in service to Srila Prabhupada?
I am sure you feel this to be a good idea.
We all want friends not enemies. If you attack people the natural reaction is for the person being attacked is to become defensive. If you approach the situation in another way by simply bringing the issue to the other persons attention and then if there is a problem then offering your support or help in resolving it then doesn’t this sound like a much nicer scenario?
Try to address them and offer to help!
Dear Bhakta hues and all devotee’s, The CC we have is the Bhaktivedanta Archives original CC. It is the original pre 1978 CC. Unfortunately the devotees who were correcting the scanning errors when they were fixing some of the Bhagavad-gita quotations cut and pasted them from the JAS gita instead of the original gita…
So there are some Bhagavad-gita verses in it that are the changed version not the original version. Otherwise it is completely the original CC.
We are working on sorting out these sorts of things at the moment but it is a huge job and will take some time.
But IT IS THE ORIGINAL CC, and it is only a handful of BG quotes in there that come from the changed gita.
It is a typical Bhaktivedanta Archives mistake… But IT IS THE ORIGINAL CC and we are presently working on fixing the few wrong Bg verses.
If people who are complaining could actually look into these matters deeper and not just falsely make incorrect misinformed accusations behind the backs of those actually working for solutions and are actively distributing the original books then just think of what we could accomplish if we worked together instead of simply fought with one another.
We are trying our best.
As already mentioned we are always open for any suggestions or corections or better yet an offer to help. Please note: we do not monitor this website’s comments so this is an inappropriate place to voice your concerns about Krishnapath.org If you do have concerns about krishnapath.org there is a feedback tab on every page and also an email address you can contact us by at the bottom of every page, so please direct your attention and concerns to the appropriate place to proactively resolve any concerns you have.
Thank you.
Please if any one else finds any differences in the digital books we have for free download and the original pre 1978 hard copies notify us about it and we will correct it. Thanks.
Prahlada-Nrsimha dasa, I/we the reader/readers would like to thank you for admitting the mistakes and taking steps to have them corrected . We appreciate your dedication, time and energy put in for your services so that readers like us can have access to Srila Prabhupada’s original books in digital form. Please let us know when the errors are all corrected so that we can re download them.
We also like say thank you to Bhakta Huges for taking the trouble to highlight the errors and appreciate it.
We are still waiting for Pratyatosa dasa’s reply to Bhakta Huges on similar errors he highlighted in Pratyatosa’s web site ( causelessmercy.com) on Srila Prabhupada’s original books for free download.
Hare Krsna.
@Prahlada-Nrsimha Das
“….But IT IS THE ORIGINAL CC….”
Have you actually checked this – or are you parroting what you have been told by your peers?
The Archives are funded by the BBT, headed by JAS – think about it!
