We never went to the moon!
Srila Prabhupada, the Founder and Acharya of the International Society of Krishnaconsciousness, was not alone to claim the moonlanding was a hoax. Besides Srila Prabhupada, also Bill Caysing is saying this in his book by the same title “We never went to the moon!” (Copyright Bill Caysing 1994).
“The moon program was a great hoax” Bill Caysing says. It was a 30 Billion Dollar swindle. “Apparently a substantial number of Americans do not believe that their government landed men on the moon”, says David Wise in “The Politics Of Lying”, 1973.
Whether the Americans went to the moon or not, is irrelevant for a devotee engaged in Krishnaconsciousness. Devotees are more interested in what the acaryas and vedic scriptures have stated about the moon. The Srimad Bhagavatam is full of descriptions about the moon. The method of Parampara, which reveals the Absolute Truth to the sincere disciple, is foolproof, whereas believe in materialistic science with its speculative theories is always imperfect and leaves ample room for doubting.
Śāstra-Cakṣu – Seeing through the eyes of shastra
Srila Prabhupada: We understand from sastra. And how this rascal with a machine will go there? That is a common sense. But they do not believe in the words of the sastra. Rascals, they were bluffed and they believe. Sastra-Caksus. Your eyes should be through the sastra. Yah sastra-vidhim utsrjya vartate kama…, na siddhim sa… We believe in this. Therefore I said twenty years before. That is the difference. We take the words of sastra, words of Krsna, ultimate. That’s all. So we have no difficulty. They do not believe in sastra. It is sometimes said, “There is more to it than meets the eye.” This means that ordinary sense perception is limited, and so cannot disclose the whole truth of the matter. For example, we understand from Bhagavad-gita that the material body is but a covering, a dress of the soul. And yet, with our eyes, we can only see the external body – we cannot see the eternal soul. It is for this reason that Srila Prabhupada repeatedly urged us to consider shastra chaksu (the eye of the shastra) to be more important than our material eyes.
Simply bluffing, simply propaganda

PRABHUPADA: The newspaper said that “Mr. such and such went to moon planet.” Oh, immediately believe. See? A newspaper, ten cent worth newspaper. And in the Bhagavad-gita Krishna says, yanti deva vrata devan: [Bg. 9.25] “One who can… One can go to the demigods planets by worshiping them. You can go, yanti deva vrata devan, as others. Similarly, one can come to Me by worshiping Me.” Mad yajino ‘pi yanti mam.So they never worshiped Chandra, and how they can go to the Chandra planet, or moon planet? Then Krishna is false. Krishna is imperfect. They become “perfect”. They are defying Krishna’s instruction. They have gone to moon planet. Then our whole propaganda, Krishnaconsciousness, becomes bogus. Therefore I always protest.
SUDAMA: They have not gone.
PRABHUPADA: They have not gone. We have got our tests. I am speaking from the very beginning, “They have not gone.” And practically you see, even if you have gone, what utility you have made? They are simply planning, again planning. “We shall get petrol from there. We shall have defense from there. “Simply bluffing, simply bluffing. The Americans will go to the moon planet to defend his country from the Russians. Just see. And we have to believe all these nonsense proposals. What defense they will do from there? Is it not the proposal? Yes.
Devotee (2): Did they actually land on the moon, Srila Prabhupada?
Prabhupada: No, they cannot go there. What is the question of landing? They cannot go there. It is far, far away. What you calculated? 1,600,000 miles away, up the sun planet. 1,600,000 miles above the sun. According to your calculation, the sun is away from this planet by 93,000,000 miles. And above that, 1,600,000 miles. Then you go to the moon. How it is possible?

Prabhupada: Not behind, above.

Srila Prabhuapda said different things at different times. Sometimes he directly said they didn’t go to the moon and it was some kind of hoax. And at other times he said they didn’t go to the moon because they didn’t experience the higher dimensional nature of the moon planet, which is a rational way to harmonize the Vedic perspective with the idea of three dimensional space travel. At other times he just said the whole idea was foolish and a waste of money. He saw material space travel as a foolish attempt to reach higher dimensions which can only be reached by yogic practice.
Srila Prabhupada had an amazing level of insight into the foolishness of modern society and was able to so clearly expose it for what it was: “Simply bluffing”

Rejecting the authority of Guru, Sadhu and Shastra
There has been an ongoing discussion over at http://groups.google.com/group/istagosthi/ about whether or not the moon landings were real or faked. Pratyatosa das, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada, has said that he believes, contrary to what Srila Prabhupada has said, that man did go to the moon, and listed his mundane credentials (BS, Applied Physics, Michigan Technological University) to assert his expertise and knowledge on the subject » more of Pratyatosas critique on Srila Prabhupada here «
Pratyatosa writes in his forum: “Let’s all stop making fools of ourselves and therefore embarrassing Srila Prabhupada by claiming that the moon landings were a hoax!”
Or in other words, Pratyatosa is suggesting, that Srila Prabhupada (and those who belive in him) is a fool, by not believing in the moon landings.
Why Pratyatosa is criticising Srila Prabhupada?

Bill Kaysing was head of the Technical Presentations Unit at the Rocketdyne Propulsion Field Laboratory from 1956 until 1963. This period encompassed the major planning for the engine system and related components of the Apollo Project. During this time he was cleared for U.S. Air Force “Secret” and Atomic Energy “Q”.
Author of several books on the subject of reducing or eliminating corporate control over an individual’s life, Kaysing divides his time between travel in the Western United States and numerous writing stints aboard his boat in Northern California.

America’s astronauts never landed on the moon! That is the astounding conclusion of Wild Bill Kaysing, a former technical publications editor with the Rocketdyne Corporation and author of We Never Went To The Moon.
Kaysing. who resides In Santa Cruz. Calif., says the Apollo program that allegedly landed several American astronauts on the moon was nothing more than a “complex, down-to-earth hoax.”
“America’s astronauts got no closer to the moon than the Nevada desert.” declares Kaysing, who started out to write a spoof but became convinced that something really was wrong with the space program.
In August 1974, I signed a contract with Price, Stem and Sloan, an L.A. publisher, to write a book titled We Never Went To The Moon. We agreed that it would be a spoof, a satire a la Report From Iron Mountain or the film Dr. Strangelove. They gave me a token advance. I went to Las Vegas for the winter to write this book as well as another one titled Bet Well On A Dollar A Day for Chronicle Books of San Francisco.
“As I began to research the moon book, I found myself wondering whether I was working on a hoax or whether I was actually becoming a technical detective. Little by little, the evidence seemed to build In the favor of the Apollo Project itself being a gigantic hoax.
“Playing the devil’s advocate,” Kaysing continues, “l began to question every step of the various moon flights. I discovered that it was possible to simulate practically everything but launch and touchdown. And even these events could be doctored and monitored so as to assure credibility along with simulation. For example, the Saturn V, or Apollo launch vehicle, could have been lightly loaded so as to assure enough lift to get It out of sight Further, the splashdown could have originated from a high-flying airplane carrying the returning command module.
“All other aspects could have been done by special effects men from Hollywood. I learned that Stanley Kubrick had his budget for 2001, A Space Odyssey raised from $3 million to $11 million. This work could have been the cover for all the faked photography, still and motion picture.”
According to Kaysing’s research, the entire moon landing program of the Apollo series of space flights was conducted from a secret NASA base in the desert near Las Vegas. Nev.
“They probably used a phony moon set.” Kaysing states, “to fool the world into thinking we really landed on the moon.” This secret base, complete with barren expanses of rocks and dust, “allowed the astronauts to simply slip into their space suits, climb outside, wander around a little and kick up some dust.”
According to Kaysing’s account. the hoax was aided by highly sophisticated electronic equipment that sent back fuzzy pictures and crackling voice transcriptions to millions of duped Americans who were glued to their TV sets in the belief that we had finally conquered space.
Kaysing contends that it would be a simple task to send a manned rocket high enough into the atmosphere to avoid detection and then land somewhere in Nevada while false transmissions were beamed to eager moon-watchers. When enough time had elapsed, the TV cameras at this secret base would then be turned on and the fake moon landing would take place.”

Since NASA won’t answer those questions, the Free Press has decided to print them so our readers can judge for themselves.
1) Why didn’t the astronauts make some visible signal from the moon?
2) Why did Dutch papers circa July 1969 question the authenticity of the moon landing.
3) Why is it that Apollo records are not classified, but are also not available to the public?
4) Why did so many astronauts end up as executives of large corporations or otherwise wealthy? Was this a reward for more than a trip to the moon?
5) Why did numerous astronauts die in accidents, others suffer brain damage and still others have nervous breakdowns? Does this relate to the high Incidence of death and accidents to key witnesses of the Kennedy murder?
6) What has happened to the Baron Report a 50-page compilation of errors, mismanagement and incompetence that was compiled by Thomas Baron after the death of three astronauts on Pad 34 in 1967? Was Baron’s death shortly after he submitted the report a reel accident?
7) Why did the relatives of astronauts so often refer to the “unreality of events”?
8) Why was the fact that astronauts were trained near Las Vegas not publicized?
9) Why were astronauts held in quarantine so long after their “trip” when most scientists agree that the moon was sterile and there was virtually no chance of disease transmission? Was it because they needed a period of reconditioning after their spurious trip?
10) The Apollo 6 mission was a total fiasco; many previous to it were subject to numerous failures. Then why was Apoffo 6 followed by six perfect “missions” which in turn were followed by the Manned Orbiting debacle? Isn’t this both an actual and statistical Impossibility?
11) Why was there a requirement for all media newspersons to clear their data through the NASA public relations office?
12) Why were all transmissions to the public regarding the actual landing via TV and radio, media easily faked?
13. Is there any assurance that the astronauts were actually aboard the Apollo vehicle when it was launched? Also, Is (here any proof that the Saturn booster really employed F-1 engines or that the module was fully loaded with fuel and oxidizer?
The Los Angeles Free Press publicized the original news release on the moon story in January of 1975. But no other major papers picked it up. Was there an agreed-upon repression of this interesting story?

In this connection, the darkness occurring before the full moon, the lunar eclipse, can be explained as being another planet, known as Rahu. According to Vedic astronomy, the Rahu planet, which is not visible, is accepted. Sometimes the Rahu planet is visible in the presence of full moonlight. It then appears that this Rahu planet exists somewhere near the orbit of the moon. The failure of modern moon excursionists may be due to the Rahu planet. So in the Fifth Chapter, at the end of the Fifth Chapter, Sukadeva Gosvami has described the different sufferings, body in the hellish condition. We are, according to change of body, we are not only going through the evolutionary process of different types of body, as we have got experience here: the aquatics, the trees, the plants, the insect, the birds, the beast, then a human being. Similarly, after human being, if we do not work properly with our advanced consciousness, then we go down again in the hellish planet that are down this universe. And if we act piously, then you go to the upper planetary system. This moon planet is also one of the upper planetary system. BUT YOU CANNOT GO BY SPUTNIK. THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE. This is nature’s law.

So apart from this discussion, you can go to the moon planet. That is also one of the heavenly planet. But you have to prepare for that, sir. That is karma-kandiya. You have to perform such and such yajnas. It is not that by force you can go any other planet. By force you cannot go even any other parts of the world here. If you want to go to America you have to take passport, visa, and so many things. And you’ll be allowed to go to the moon planet without any visa or passport? How it is possible? It is common sense. They are so fools that some rascal will take some machine and go there? That is not possible.

Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, an expert astrologer, explains the word naksatra-taradyah. The word naksatra means “the stars,” the word tara in this context refers to the planets, and adyah means “the first one specifically mentioned.” AMONG THE PLANETS, THE FIRST IS SURYA, THE SUN, NOT THE MOON. Therefore, according to the Vedic version, the modern astronomer’s proposition that the moon is nearest to the earth should not be accepted. The chronological order in which people all over the world refer to the days of the week–Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday–corresponds to the Vedic order of the planets and thus circumstantiates the Vedic version. Apart from this, when the Lord appeared the planets and stars became situated very auspiciously, according to astrological calculations, to celebrate the birth of the Lord.

Prabhupada: Yes. (translator reads German translation) So our natural tendency is to go to other, better planets. Therefore people are trying to go to the moon planet. Similarly, you can go to the sun planet, heavenly planet. There are so many. But the information is, even though you reach the topmost planet of this universe, still, there the four principles of material life, namely, birth, death, old age and disease, are there. So we can go to the topmost planet. There is process how to go.

madhye tisthanti rajasah
jaghanya-guna-vrtti-stha
adho gacchanti tamasah
If you keep yourself in sattva-guna, or in the modes of goodness, you are promoted to the higher planetary system. Even to the topmost planetary system. That is called urdhvam gacchanti sattva-sthah. And if you keep yourself in the modes of passion, you shall remain within the middle planetary system. This is middle planetary system. This earthly planet, it is called Bhurloka. Then, above this, there is Bhuvarloka. Then, above that, Svargaloka. That is heavenly planets. The heavenly planets begins from the moon planet. Jaghanya-guna-vrtti-stha adho gacchanti tamasah. And those who are in the modes of darkness, they go down, down, down. The animal life is also amongst the down, I mean to say, modes of life. So this human form of life is a chance to make our choice where we shall go next, in the higher or in the lower, or we shall remain here. So how to go to the higher planetary system, that is also mentioned. Yanti deva-vrata devan. Read this.

Prabhupada: So, if we like, we can go to the higher planetary system, heavenly planetary system. Just like we are trying to go to the moon planet, but we have not been successful. In this way we cannot go there. Each planet, each and every planet, has got different atmosphere. SO UNLESS YOUR BODY IS COMPLETELY COMPETENT TO LIVE IN SUCH PLANET, YOU CANNOT GO THERE. JUST LIKE THE SCIENTISTS SAY THAT IN THE MOON PLANET THE TEMPERATURE IS TWO HUNDRED DEGREES BELOW ZERO. Similarly, in the sun planet the temperature is very, very high, hundred and thousand times degrees above the normal. So in this way, every planet has got different atmosphere, different temperature, different standard of life, different duration of life. So one has to become competent to transfer himself in a particular type of planet. So we, as spirit soul, dehi, the possessor of this body… Dehi means one who possesses this body, or the occupier of the body, the spirit soul. That is eternal. Changing body only, but eternal. Therefore we should not be interested to these different types of temporary body. That is not very good intelligence. So we have to prepare ourself. If we want… There is a full description of each and every planet. And we can prepare ourself according to our desire, which planet we wish to go. But Krsna says, mad-yajino ‘pi yanti mam. “Persons who are engaged in My occupational duties, they will come to Me.”

So to become Krsna conscious, that is the highest perfection of life. Param Brahman. Param Brahman. Brahman, impersonal effulgence. Just like the sunshine. Then localized sun, the sun globe. Then further, if you able to enter the sun globe, you’ll find there is a predominating deity. There are also cities and palaces–everything, just like this planet. But this planet is made prominently of earth, and that planet is one of the elements, material elements, earth, water, fire, air. So if this planet is made of earth, why not other planet made of fire? WHAT IS THE SCIENTIFIC REASON TO DENY IT? BECAUSE I CANNOT LIVE IN THE FIRE, IT DOES NOT MEAN OTHER LIVING ENTITIES CANNOT LIVE THERE. THERE ARE DIFFERENT KINDS OF LIVING ENTITIES. JUST LIKE YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHIN THE WATER, WITHIN THE OCEAN, BUT THERE ARE OTHER LIVING ENTITIES… JUST LIKE FISH. THEY LIVE VERY COMFORTABLY WITHIN THE WATER. SO WHY SHOULD WE CONCLUDE THAT THERE IS NO LIFE IN THE SUN PLANET OR MOON PLANET? THIS IS NOT PERFECT KNOWLEDGE. FROM VEDIC BOOKS WE CAN UNDERSTAND THAT THIS MOON PLANET IS ONE OF THE HEAVENLY PLANETS AND PEOPLE LIVE THERE. THEY ARE DEMIGODS. THEIR DURATION OF LIFE IS VERY LONG. And one can go to that planet by performing the rituals. They are described. In the Bhagavad-gita also it is said, yanti deva-vrata devan. If you are serious to go to the planets where demigods live, you can go. There are rules and regulations, rituals. Just like if you want to pass law examination, you prepare for that examination, and you pass, you become a lawyer. You become an engineer. Similarly, any planet you want to go, you prepare in this life. Don’t degrade yourself to become again cats and dogs, but you prepare yourself to be promoted to the other, higher planetary system… As it is stated in the Bhagavad-gita, urdhvam gacchanti sattva-sthah. You can go there.
Krsna says,

pitrn yanti pitr-vratah
bhutani yanti bhutejya
yanti mad-yajino ‘pi mam
So there is another planet… Not another planet, another nature, sanatana. Paras tasmat tu bhavo ‘nyo ‘vyakto ‘vyaktat sanatanah. There is another nature, eternal nature. That is called Vaikunthaloka. Yad gatva na nivartante tad dhama paramam mama. Every dhama, every place, is Krsna’s. He’s the supreme proprietor. Sarva-loka-mahesvaram. “I am the proprietor.” But there are differentiation, param dhama and aparam dhama. This is aparam dhama. This material world is aparam dhama, inferior nature. These are stated in the Bhagavad-gita. Apareyam itas tu viddhi me prakrtim param. Itas tu viddhi me prakrtim param. There is another prakrti, another nature. There is Vaikunthaloka. Not one, two, but millions, unlimited. And the topmost planet is called Goloka Vrndavana. That is mad-dhama, Krsna says, or tad-dhama.

So there is a Pitrloka, Yamaloka. Just like the moon planet, we are trying to go there, but there are different lokas, planets, and you can go, not by the sputnik, by force. No. You’ll have to qualify yourself. Just like to come to your country, to take the permanent visa, I had to qualify in so many ways, the immigration department, not by force. Even in this planet, you cannot enter any country without being permitted. How you can enter other planets? Simply by force? No, that is not possible. You have to qualify yourself. If you are in the passion modes, then you stay here in this middle planetary system. And jaghanya-guna-vrtti-stha adho gacchanti tamasah. Those who are in the most abominable condition of life, adho gacchanti, they go down. Not only the down planetary system, but even to the animal kingdom, the beasts, birds, trees, plants, aquatics. You have to go.

What to speak of going to other planets, if one is qualified, if one is pure devotee, Krsna says, “He also comes to Me.” So this exchange of going and coming is not difficult, provided a person is qualified. Not a cat and dog can go. That is not possible.

“Sometimes great demons and atheists like Rāvaṇa and Hiraṇyakaśipu and many others become very famous due to advancing material civilization by the help of material science and other activities with a spirit of challenging the established order of the Lord.
For example, the attempt to fly to other planets by material means is a challenge to the established order. The conditions of each and every planet are different, and different classes of human beings are accommodated there for particular purposes mentioned in the codes of the Lord. But, puffed up by tiny success in material advancement, sometimes the godless materialists challenge the existence of God. Rāvaṇa was one of them, and he wanted to deport ordinary men to the planet of Indra (heaven) by material means without consideration of the necessary qualifications. He wanted a staircase to be built up directly reaching the heavenly planet so that people might not be required to undergo the routine of pious work necessary to enter that planet. He also wanted to perform other acts against the established rule of the Lord.”
