Kṛṣṇa the Supreme Personality of Godhead – Volume One
SUPREME BENEDICTIONS FROM KṚṢṆA BOOK
(Compiled by Mohini Devi Dasi)
From the scriptures we understand that the Supreme Lord is the bestower of all benedictions to the living entities based on their desire and qualification. Many living entities approach the Lord with different desires and praying to Him for many things. However the Lord is especially kind to o those who surrender to him, to his dear most devotees, whom he gives the supreme benedictions.
ATTAINING THE FAVOUR OF GOVINDA
Śrīla Śukadeva Gosvāmī has blessed all persons who hear the narration of the killing of Pūtanā by Kṛṣṇa. They will surely attain the favor of Govinda. (49) (KB 6/ Pūtanā killed)
GETTING ALL SPIRITUAL DESIRES FULFILLED
The very name Kṛṣṇa suggests piety and liberation. Anyone who takes shelter of the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa enters the boat for crossing over the ocean of nescience. For him, the vast expansion of the material manifestation becomes as insignificant as a hoofprint. These descriptions of Lord Kṛṣṇas pasttimes with the cowherd boys, His eating with them on the bank of the Yamunā and Lord Brahmās prayers unto Him, are all transcendental subject matters. Anyone who hears, recites and chants them surely gets all his spiritual desires fulfilled. (112) (KB 14/ Prayers offered by lord Brahmā to lord Kṛṣṇa)
BEING RELIEVED FROM ALL KINDS OF SINFUL REACTIONS
The Lord than declared that the order given to the Kāliya snake be recited and heard by everyone so that no one need fear Kāliya anymore. Anyone who hears the narration of the Kāliya serpent and his punishment will need fear no more the envious activities of snakes. The Lord also declared: ” If one takes a bath in the Kāliya lake where my cowherd boyfriends and I have bathed, or If one, fasting for a day, offers oblations to the forefathers from the water of this lake, he will be relieved from all kinds of sinful reactions.” (127) (KB 16/ Subduing Kāliya)
WORSHIPPING GOVARDHANA-SHILA BRINGS GOOD FORTUNE
The identity of Kṛṣṇa and Govardhana Hill is still honoured, and great devotees take rocks from Govardhana Hill and worship them exactly as they worship the deity of Lord Kṛṣṇa in the temples. Devotees therefore collect small rocks or pebbles from Govardhana Hill and worship them at home, because this worship is as good as Deity worship.
Kṛṣṇa also declared at that meeting,”One who neglects the worship of Govardhana Pūjā, as I am personally conducting it, will not be happy. There are many snakes on Govardhana Hill, and persons neglecting the prescribed duty of Govardhana Pūjā will be bitten by these snakes and killed. In order to assure the good fortune of the cows and themselves, all people of Vrndhavana near Govardhana must worship the hill, as prescribed by me.”(172) (KB 24/ Worshipping Govardhana Hill)
BECOMMING ABSOLUTELY KṚṢṆA CONSCIOUS
The Lord than assured King Mucukunda,” In your next life you will take birth as a first-class Vaiṣṇava, the best of brāhmaṇas, and in that life your only business will be to engage yourself in My transcendental service.” The Vaiṣṇava is the first-class brāhmaṇa, because one who has not acquired the qualification of a bonafide brāhmaṇa cannot come to the platform of a Vaiṣṇava. When one comes to the platform of a Vaiṣṇava, he is completely engaged in welfare activities for all living entities. The highest welfare activity for living entities is the preaching of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. It is stated herein that those who are specifically favoured by the Lord can become absolutely Kṛṣṇa conscious and be engaged in the preaching work of the vaiṣṇava philosophy.(346) (KB 50/ deliverance of mucukunda)
Kṛṣṇa the Supreme Personality of Godhead, – Volume Two
BECOME FREE FROM ALL KINDS OF DEFAMATION, ATTAIN THE HIGHEST PERFECTIONAL CONDITION OF PEACE
The properties of the jewel were known: wherever the jewel remained, it would produce for the keeper almost nine mounds of pure gold daily. A quantity of gold is counted by a measurement called a bhara. According to Vedic formulas, one bhara is equal to sixteen pounds of gold; one mound equals eighty-two pounds. Akrūra was getting gold in that proportion and was distributing it very profusely at sacrificial performances. Lord Kṛṣṇa cited Akrūra’s lavishly spending in gold as positive evidence of his possessing the Syamantaka jewel. When Lord Kṛṣṇa, in friendly terms and in sweet language, impressed Akrūra about the real fact and Akrūra understood that nothing could be concealed from the knowledge of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, he brought the valuable jewel, shining like the sun and covered by cloth, and presented it before Kṛṣṇa. Lord Kṛṣṇa took the Syamantaka jewel in his hand and showed it to all His relatives and friends present there and than again returned the jewel to Akrūra in their presence so that they would know that the jewel was actually being kept by Akrūra in Dvārakā City.
The story of the Syamantaka jewel is very significant. In the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam it is said that anyone who hears the story of the Syamantaka jewel or describes it or simply remembers it will be free from all kinds of defamation and the reactions of all impious activities and thus will attain the highest perfectional condition of peace. (14) (KB 2/ The killing of Satrājit and Śatadhanvā)
BEING RELEASED FROM ALL REACTIONS TO SINFUL ACTIVITIES
Lord Kṛṣṇa, who specifically protects His devotees, saw that the whole population of Dvārakā was most perturbed by the presence of the great fiery demon. He immediately began to smile and assured them,” Don’t worry. I shall give you protection.” He took his Sudarshana-cakra and ordered him to take the necessary steps. The Sudarśana-cakra appeared with the effulgence of millions of suns, his temperature being as powerful as that of the fire created at the end of the cosmic manifestation. Than the Sudarśana-cakra began to FREEZE the fiery demon created by Lord Śiva. In this way, the fiery demon was checked by the Sudarśana-cakra of Lord Kṛṣṇa, and being defeated in his attempt to devastate the city of Dvārakā, he turned back. Having failed to set fire to Dvārakā, he went back to Vārāṇasī, the kingdom of Kāśīrāja. As a result of his return, all the priests who had helped instruct the BLACK ART OF MANTRAS, along with their employer, Sudakṣiṇa were burned into ashes by the glaring effulgence of the fiery demon. According to the methods of black art mantras instructed in the Tantra, IF THE MANTRA FAILS TO KILL THE ENEMY, THAN, BECAUSE IT MUST KILL SOMEONE, IT KILLS THE ORIGINAL CREATOR. This is the way of the demons: the demons create something to kill God, but by the same weapon the demons themselves are killed. Following just behind the fiery demon, the Sudarśana-cakra also entered Vārāṇasī. This city of Vārāṇasī had been very opulent and great for a very long time,…but because the king of Kāśī and his son Sudakṣiṇa were against Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Viṣṇu-cakra Sudarśana ( the disc weapon of Lord ) devastated the whole city by burning all these important places. This excursion was more ravaging than modern bombing. The Sudarśana-cakra, having finished his duty, came back to his Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa at Dvārakā.
This narration of the devastation of Vārāṇasī by Kṛṣṇa’s disc weapon, the Sudarśana-cakra, is transcendental and auspicious. Anyone who narrates this story, or anyone who hears this story with faith and attention will be released from all reactions to sinful activities. This is the assurance of Śukadeva Gosvāmī who narrated this story to Parīkṣit Mahārāja. (85,86) (KB 11/ Deliverance of Paundraca and the King of Kāśī)
TO ACHIEVE THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF LIFE
In narrating the activities of Lord Kṛṣṇa in Dvārakā, Śukadeva Gosvāmī explained to King Parīkṣit how Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, descends on this material universe by the agency of his internal potency and personally exhibits the principles which, if followed, can lead one to achieve the ultimate goal of life. (KB 14/ The great Sage Nārada visits the different homes of Lord Kṛṣṇa)
THE PATH OF LIBERATION – TASTE THE NECTAR OF THE LOTUS FEET OF LORD KṚṢṆA.
Anyone who attentively hears the narrations of the Lord’s pastimes in Dvārakā or supports a preacher of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement will certainly find it very easy to traverse the path of liberation and taste the nectar of the lotus feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa. And thus he will be engaged in his devotional service.(106)
IMMEDIATELY BE FREED FROM ALL THE REACTIONS OF THE SINFUL ACTIVITIES OF LIFE.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī assured Mahārāja Parīkṣit that the pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa – the killing of Śiśupāla and Jarāsandha and the releasing of the imprisoned kings – are all transcendental vibrations, and anyone who hears these narrations from the authorised persons will be immediately freed from all the reactions of the sinful activities of his life. (146) (KB 19/ The deliverance of Śiśupāla)
BECOME A GREAT DEVOTEE OF THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD
Lord Balarāma than took the avabhṛtha bath which is accepted after finishing sacrificial performances. After taking his bath, He dressed Himself in new silken garments and decorated Himself with beautiful jewellery amidst his relatives and friends. He appeared to be a shining full moon amidst the luminaries in the sky. Lord Balarāma is the Personality of Godhead Ananta Himself; therefore He is beyond the scope of understanding by mind, intelligence or body. He descended exactly like a human being and behaved in that way for His own purpose; we can only explain His activities as the Lord’s pastimes . No one can even estimate the extent of the unlimited demonstrations of His pastimes because He is all-powerful. Lord Balarāma is the original Viṣṇu; therefore any one remembering these pastimes of Lord Balarāma in the morning and evening, will certainly become a great devotee of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and thus HIS LIFE WILL BECOME SUCCESSFUL IN ALL RESPECTS. (173) (kb 24/ Lord Balarāma’s Touring the Sacred Places)
BECOME QUALIFIED TO BE TRANSFERRED TO THE SPIRITUAL KINGDOM OF LORD KṚṢṆA
Sudāmā Vipra realised that although Lord Kṛṣṇa is unconquerable, He nonetheless agrees to be conquered by his devotees. He realised how kind Lord Kṛṣṇa was to him, and he was always in trance, constantly thinking of Kṛṣṇa. By such constant association with Lord Kṛṣṇa, whatever darkness of material contamination was remaining within his heart was completely cleared away, and very shortly he was transferred to the spiritual kingdom, which is the goal of all saintly persons in the perfectional stage of life. Śukadeva Gosvāmī has stated that all persons who hear this history of Sudāmā Vipra and Lord Kṛṣṇa will know how affectionate Lord Kṛṣṇa is to the brāhmaṇa devotees like Sudāmā. Therefore anyone who hears this history gradually becomes as qualified as Sudāmā Vipra, and he is thus transferred to the spiritual kingdom of Lord Kṛṣṇa.(189) (KB 26/ The Brāhmaṇa Sudāmā Benedicted by Lord Kṛṣṇa)
BECOME LIBERATED FROM MATERIAL ENTANGLEMENT
Thus Lord Viṣṇu in the form of a bramacary released Lord Śiva from the impending danger and saved the whole situation. Lord Nārāyaṇa than informed Lord Śiva that this demon, Vṛkāsura, was killed as a result of his sinful activities. He was especially sinful and offensive because he wanted to experiment on his own master, Lord Śiva.” My dear Lord, a person who commits an offence to great souls cannot continue to exist. He becomes vanquished by his own sinful activities, and this is certainly true of this demon, who has committed such an offensive act against you.”
Thus, by the grace of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Nārāyaṇa, who is transcendental to all material qualities, Lord Śiva was saved from being killed by a demon. Anyone who hears this history with faith and devotion certainly becomes liberated from material entanglement as well as from THE CLUTCHES OF HIS ENEMIES.( 319, 320) (KB 33/ Deliverance of Lord Śiva)
BE TRANSFERRED BACK HOME, BACK TO GODHEAD
Following in the holy footsteps of Śrīla Śukadeva Gosvāmī, we have tried to present this book Kṛṣṇa for being read and heard by the conditioned souls of this age. By hearing the pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa, one is SURE AND CERTAIN to get salvation and be transferred back home, back to Godhead. It is recommended by Śukadeva Gosvāmī that as we hear the transcendental pastimes and activities of the Lord, we gradually cut the knots of material contamination. Therefore, regardless of what one is, if one wants the association of Lord Kṛṣṇa in the transcendental kingdom of God for eternity in blissful existence, one must hear about the pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa and chant the mahāmantra. Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. (KB 35/ Summary Descriptions of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s Pastimes)
BE TRANSFERRED TO THE ABODE OF GOLOKA VṚNDĀVANA
The transcendental pastimes of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Kṛṣṇa are so powerful that SIMPLY BY HEARING, READING AND MEMORISING THIS BOOK KṚṢṆA, ONE IS SURE TO BE TRANSFERRED TO THE SPIRITUAL WORLD, which is ordinarily very difficult to achieve. The description of the pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa is so attractive that automatically it gives us an impetus to study repeatedly, and the more we study the pastimes of the Lord, the more we become attached to him. This very attachment to Kṛṣṇa makes one eligible to be transferred to his abode, Goloka Vṛndāvana. As we have learned from the previous chapter, to cross over the material world is to cross over the stringent laws of material nature. The stringent laws of material nature cannot check the progress of one who is attracted by the spiritual nature. This is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gītā by the Lord Himself: although the stringent laws of material nature are very difficult to overcome, if anyone surrenders unto the Lord, he can easily cross over nescience. ( 353, 354)

After attaining Me, the great souls, who are yogīs in devotion, never return to this temporary world, which is full of miseries, because they have attained the highest perfection.
“Those who attain once to Me, they will never… They will have never to come again to this place of miseries.” So here is the hint that by Kṛṣṇa consciousness, if we remain always in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then our transference to that planet of Kṛṣṇaloka is guaranteed.

ALL GLORIES TO THE ASSEMBLED DEVOTEES ! ALL GLORIES TO THE ASSEMBLED DEVOTEES ! ALL GLORIES, ALL GLORIES, ALL GLORIES TO ŚRĪ ŚRĪ GURU AND GAURĀṄGA !
The reading of the Srimad Bhagavad-gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam,
word by word, sloka by sloka, page after page, over and over again,
is like following a clue or a ball of thread out of a maze. The bene-
dictions and blessings are the bonus points one accumulates along
the way.
This is a specific example of a maze, a complex branching puzzle with
choices of path and direction. Every maze has an entrance and an exit.
This is the king of all mazes, the eternal maze, let’s call it ” the maze of
samsara.” The confusing network of pathways and walls can be fixed
or can be changed. Some are in fields and forests, mountains and
valleys, big cities and small villages, warm and cold climates, darkness
and light, winter and summer, day and night. In three dimensions or on
seven levels are imaginary routes seen in multiple reflections in mirrors.
There are rooms linked by doors. These doors can lead to the correct
path, can lead back to the starting point, can be a one way or can be a
trap. There are bridges, slides, jumps, loops, warp zones, dungeons,
battlegrounds, caves and much more. Quests are to be mastered,
various bosses and enemies are to be fought, puzzles to be solved
and bonuses and gadgets to be collected. Also in the end there is the
final fight against the unsurmountable big boss. The special feature of
this maze is that, to get out of it, one has to find a ball of golden thread
and follow it to the exit. In addition to all the difficulties it’s a run against
time. Like in any game there are rules to be followed. The neglect of
these rules results in being sent back to the starting point for yet
another try.
This samsara maze is the material world. The final fight against the big
boss is the fight against death. The greatest devotee of the Lord, Maya
devi, is the game maker. The set of rules, for times to come, are the
Original English Translations of the Srimad Bhagavad-gita and the
Srimad-Bhagavatam given by Srila Prabhupada. They are helping us
in our endeavour to exit this material maze of eternal samsara and go
back to the spiritual world. These transcendental literatures are the ball
of the very fine, most delicate golden thread, which is hardly noticeable,
either in total darkness or amongst so many glittering, shiny, colourful,
fascinating, desirable and wonderful things.
One who by good fortune and curiosity, takes notice of this ball of
special thread and is very careful not to loose or tear it, not being
swayed or distructed by the many other tempting and alluring, shiny
things, follows it with unswerving patience, determination and full
attention, picking up the different spiritual rewards, merrits and
auspicious transcendental blessings along the way, which these
pages offer, will as a result in the end be able to leave this maze of
eternal samsara. One who does not take notice of this ball of thread
has to start another round and try all over again.
These Original English Translations were, for the first time in this Kaliyuga,
being brought by Srila Prabhupada to the english speaking world fifty five
years ago. Never before has this feat been accomplished. Never before, in
the last five thousand years, have the people of the world outside of India
had access to such a tremendous amount of transcendental literature in
English language.
Being Kaliyuga devotees and consequently unable to be of any real service,
we can only offer, with tears in our eyes and straw between our teeth, our
humble prostrated obeisances to Srila Prabhupada, and pray to him that
he may please forgive our offences, inabilities and in capabilities.
May merciful Srila Prabhupada, merciful Srimad Bhagavad-gita, merciful
Srimad Bhagavatam and merciful Krsna Book continue to shower their
Supreme Benedictions and Blessings upon us!!
Blessed are those who have the true and sincere ” Intend and Purpose ” to hold on to the torch light of Srila Prabhupada’s VANI to follow through it in order to get out of this ” MAZE ” of SAMSARA , and obtain ones’ own constitutional position for rendering transcendental loving service to the Supreme Personality as per ones’ qualification in the service attitude.
Thank you very much, mohini dd. Prabhu for sharing your thoughts which are always very much appreciated.
OM TAT SAT.
Hare Krishna. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Excellent analogy Mohini Mataji with regards to ‘doors’ and ‘mazes’ as it is to our eternal benefit to follow the instructions of Srila Prabhupada….which of course always allows us to enter the right door. This decision has to be a result of ‘purification of the heart’, otherwise this is not possible as any contamination or material desire will have us choosing the wrong door!
Those persons (such as FISKCON fake “gurus”) who whilst pretending to be followers of His Divine Grace are inclined to choose the wrong door as Maya Devi covers them over due to envy of Srila Prabhupada. These pretenders destroy any hope of returning to the spiritual world due to pratistha, greed, and envy and also destroy any hope of their sycophantic followers!
