Iskcon Bangalore was registered in 1978 under Karnataka Societies Registration Act as a legally autonomous society. It was registered by Shankabrit Dasa under the guidance of Hamsadutta Swami, the then member of the original Governing Body Commission appointed by Srila Prabhupada, who was in charge of Bangalore.
The society has the same objective as of the first society founded by Srila Prabhupada back in 1966 at New York — International society of Krishna Consciousness. Iskcon Bangalore society functions as a member of the world wide confederation of ISKCON temples.
Srila Prabhupada was of the opinion that societies should be registered as legally autonomous bodies in the name and style of International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) all over the world. In Dec. 1972, Srila Prabhupada wrote to one of his senior disciples, “Never mind there may be botheration to register each centre, take tax certificate each, and become separate corporations in each state.” (Srila Prabhupada’s letter to Karandhara Das, Bombay, 22nd Dec 1972). Hence there are hundreds of ISKCON societies registered all over the world.
In 1983 Madhu Pandit Dasa became involved in overseeing the activities of ISKCON, Bangalore in addition to his responsibilities of ISKCON Trivandrum temple. He shifted temple from a small fledgling centre in a rented apartment to a mammoth temple structure in H.K. Hill.
Inspite of his incredible contribution to the Society of Krishna Consciousness propaganda is being made by some ill intentioned people that ISKCON Bangalore society was created by Madhu Pandit Dasa to grab the property of the temple on Hare Krishna Hill. Though these allegations have been proved to be false and baseless, it is disappointing that his noble intentions are still being questioned.
Fighting these allegations Madhu Pandit Dasa and the devotees of ISKCON Bangalore move ahead with the support of all sincere followers of Srila Prabhupada on his spiritual path of serving the Lord.
