“Where Jayadvaita Swami is Right and Where Jayadvaita Swami is Wrong”

Misleading Title:

I do not know if Jayadvaita Swami gave this title, “Book Changes: History Really Does Back the BBT” or Sampradaya Sun gave this title to the article.* This title is mixing up two different things – “Book Changes” and “Hayagriva’s role in December 1968”. Either Jayadvaita Swami is misleading us or Sampradaya Sun is misleading us by giving this title to the article.

Let us see where Jayadvaita Swami is right.

Without going into detail about the depth of Hayagriva’s involvement in preparing for publication of “Abridged Bhagavad-gita”, Jayadvaita Swami admits (maybe dismissively) Hayagriva’s role with the statement:

“Before October 1967: Hayagriva is working on the manuscript of Bhagavad-gita As It Is.”

and with the statement:

Fall, 1968: The abridged Gita is published. An introductory note called “Setting the Scene” is signed “Rayarama Dasa Brahmachary (Raymond Marais), Editor” and dated 16 August 1968, Janmastami. In the note, Rayarama writes, “My special thanks are due to my God-brothers Sri Hayagriva Das Brahmachary (Howard Wheeler, M.A.) for his assistance in polishing the manuscript and to Sri Brahmananda Das Brahmachary (Bruce Scharf) for arranging publication. . . ‘”

Jayadvaita Swami gives the proof that Hayagriva could not have been working on “Abridged Bhagavad-gita” in December 1968, as it was already published by then.

So Jayadvaita Swami is right that, in December 1968 Hayagriva was not working on Abridged Bhagavad-gita. Jayadvaita Swami only needed these two statements to make his point. However, it is good to know about the full history of publication of “Abridged Bhagavad-gita”.

Bravo Jayadvaita Swami! You win on this point.

Let us see where Jayadvaita Swami is wrong:

Jayadvaita Swami, where do you get authority to change Srila Prabhupada’s books?

Your article proves only one point, that Hayagriva was not working on Abridged Bhagavad-gita in December 1968. How can you say that history supports your madness of changing Srila Prabhupada’s books?

In the recent article, “Jayadvaita’s Smoke and Mirrors“, Madhudvisa dasa gives the depth of Hayagriva’s role during the first quarter of 1967 in preparing “Abridged Bhagavad-gita” for publication and defining the difference between the words “manuscript” and “draft”, and reasons for not changing the books. Of course, Jayadvaita Swami, Madhudvisha has banged on your head these points again and again, but you prefer to be deaf, dumb and blind. Do you not understand the difference between draft and manuscript?

The recent article, “Please Explain, Jayadvaita Swami, Dravida Prabhu & Company” by “A Group of Srila Prabhupada Disciples & Followers, raises many points against the changes you made to the Gita, Jayadvaita Swami. Maybe it is time for you to work on disproving these points as diligently as you did in proving that Hayagriva was on working on Gita in December 1968.

If you are honest, you will find yourself in a deep, dark well of ignorance on this point.

Jayadvaita Swami, you are dead wrong in changing Srila Prabhupada’s books and the secret ways you have been doing it shows who you are.

* [Editor’s Note: Earlier today, Jayadvaita Swami asked that we retract his recent article, “Book Changes: History Really Does Back the BBT”. His reason: when he submitted the article link to us, he didn’t mean we should publish the article – he only wanted a free link back to his own Blog, although that wasn’t made clear in his email. And for the record, the article title was his own – not a title created by Sun staff.]
