Fortis extends its’ helping hand to Akshaya Patra | Akshaya Patra Foundation |School Meal Program |

Prasad Koppoluu, 2010/11/12 — Fortis Investments, an autonomous investment management company has recently joined The Akshaya Patra Foundation bandwagon. The management has adopted 229 children in Bangalore from 3 schools where Akshaya Patra’s midday meal programme is practiced.

Mr. Nikhil Johri, the Managing Director of Fortis Investments have gone ahead and set an example to his employees by adopting 178 children from the Government Upper Primary School in Jaipur, who are also fed by Akshaya Patra.

The 229 children adopted by the management study in 3 schools in Bangalore – Government Higher Primary School, Government Urdu Primary School and Government Tamil Primary School in Vasanth nagar.

Being part of the Fortis group, who have spread across their corporate social responsibility arm in the healthcare sector, this effort by their investment management wing is a welcome move.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is the largest NGO serving school meals (mid-day meals) in government run schools of India.

The behemoth program is a strategic intervention in education which today serves nutritious mid-day meals to about 12, 28,580 school children in 18 locations in 8 states in the country.

Akshaya Patra, the “food for education” non-profit organization, reached its goal of feeding one million underprivileged children daily by 2010 on April 1, 2009. The world’s largest NGO-run midday meal program, Akshaya Patra is a public-private partnership that combines good management, innovative technology and smart engineering to deliver school lunch at a fraction of the cost of similar programs in other parts of the world.
