PADA: The problem with current ISKCON guru tattva …

Dear Shastra-krit Prabhu,

Hare Krishna. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I received your message forwarded to me by Ram Parashar Prabhu last week and have noted the contents carefully and am appalled by your tone.

For years I have been coming to New Dwaraka for Srila Prabhupada disappearance festival. This year due to some prior commitments I could not.

As you may know, I have been preaching Srila Prabhupada’s message in the Indian community here in the LA area for the last 17 years. Also I am the ex-chairman of the Radha Raman temple board.

I have learnt that HH Devamrita Maharaja is coming to New Dwaraka later in the month. Since he is a very learned and scholarly, and since he might know some answers which I have been searching for some time, I asked Ram Prabhu to give you a sealed envelope containing some documents to be forwarded to Maharaja on my behalf.

I enclosed in the envelope the following:

1. Back to Prabhupada magazine, special issue #1, Published by IRM, the ISKCON Revival Movement, giving six strong arguments how Srila Prabhupada is STILL the real guru for everyone in ISKCON, all based on the authority of guru, sadhu, and shastra.

2. Guru or Gunda? article by ISKCON Bangalore temple president, HG Madhu Pandit Das.

3. The Illustrious career of HH Devamrita Swami, by IRM.

I have been here in America for over forty years. I have watched with pride the glorious rise of the Hare Krishna movement here in America and the world during the presence of Srila Prabhupada, and its sad, painful and disastrous decline in America after Srila Prabhupada’s disappearance in 1977.

Since 1994 I have accepted Srila Prabhupada as my spiritual master and trying to distribute his message mainly through his book (Svavasa Prabhu knows me and also that there is no one who distributes Srila Prabhupada’s books in the Indian community in the LA area more enthusiastically than me). It has been a big puzzle then why even educated and pious people are giving so much resistance in accepting centuries old Lord Krishna’s divine message. These articles finally explain what is the real problem in ISKCON the and real solution also.

I received BTP in September 2010 in the mail. After reading it I was totally convinced of the six strong arguments presented in it based on Guru, Sadhu and Shastra, how Srila Prabhupada is still the real Diksha Guru for everyone in ISKCON. I have been to ISKCON Bangalore and am a contributor to their world famous Akshaya Patra food distribution program which now feeds prasadam to 1.5 million poor kids in India everyday. That is more than all the Hare Krishna Food for Life programs put together! The spectacular success of ISKCON Bangalore is obvious to anyone who visits or even reads about it. It is run by a team of highly educated young devotees which is so rare in our Hare Krishna movement.

Recently I heard about Devamrita Maharaja’s up coming trip to LA area. I have also seen the rise and fall of New Vrindavan and how the demons there turned it into “New Lanka”! By ISKCON’s own acknowledgement there is none who has done more damage to the Hare Krishna Movement than Kirtanananda Maharaja and his cronies by their nefarious activities over there for more than two decades.

Srila Prabhupada wanted NV to be the model of simple living and high thinking for the whole world. He never wanted a palace over there for himself or to be built after his departure. Somehow after his disappearance Kirtanananda Maharaja unauthorizedly turned it into a Golden Palace project for his own aggrandizement and turned it in to a model of “demoniac thinking and demoniac living” with massive drug dealings, prostitution, sexual molestation of innocent and helpless second generation kids and to top it all even murders.

In fact New Vrindavan became worse than Lanka as there is no description of sexual abuse of children in Lanka. Even the demons were not hypocrites as to calling someone MATAJI during the day and Sexually abusing them at night!

As you might know the area I am active in is the Radha Raman temple in Placentia. It was started by a sincere Prabhupada disciple HG Haripada prabhu as a Hare Krishna temple about thirty years ago. In the meantime in mid 80’s Rameshvar Maharaja, who was the GBC/Guru here at that time, while sitting and controlling New Dwaraka, was shamelessly having sex with teenage gurukuli girl and orchestrated killing of Sulochan Prabhu in 1986 (for the “offense” of writing his paper – The Guru Business, exposing the garbage that was taking place in the movement and particularly in NV), not too far from the New Dwaraka temple.

Then Haripada Prabhu left. The Radha Raman temple was taken over by the Hindu congregation and was turned into a Hindu temple. We are still cleaning up the mess here created by the unauthorized Guru business of ISKCON.

It is a known to everyone that Rameshvar Maharaja and Kirtanananda Maharaja were the two key people involved in Sulochan’s murder. Also equally known to everyone is that Devamrita Maharaja was one of the key assistants of Kirtanananda Maharaja.

While Kirtanananda Maharaja has moved to Mumbai and Bhakti Tirtha Maharaja has taken Samadhi, Devamrita Maharaja is one of the few leaders who know the real truth about New Vrindavan. He was the leading supporter of Kirtanananda Maharaja for over a decade.

I have been to New Vrindavan many times when I was living on the east coast. There are some serious and valid questions many people including me ask about New Vrindavan and Devamrita Maharaja’s role there. Here are some:

1. Wasn’t he aware of what was happening in NV and if so why he happily participated and supported Kirtanananda Maharaja for over a decade?

2. Has he ever confessed and offered any public apology for his role in destruction of Prabhupada’s New Vrindavan?

3. What atonement has he gone through for his grievous sins committed over there.

4. The illustrious career of HH Devamrita Swami by IRM asks Maharaja some serious and valid questions about his post NV activities. Has Maharaja replied to those questions in writing?

5. Our whole parampara beginning from Lord Krishna to Srila Prabhupada, till 1977 consists of either the Lord or His Pure devotees. How is that post 1977 we have gurus who are known drug dealers, gays, child molesters, and even murderers etc. Where is the shastric reference for all that?

Our local GBC Badrinarayan Prabhu lost all his credibility and made himself a laughing stock for the world wide Vaishnava Community in 1998 when Harikesh Maharaja blooped. As the then GBC chairman and fully knowing Harikesh’s problems for a decade, even up to the verge of his blooping with his female massage therapist and with millions of dollars in cash, Badrinarayan prabhu had the nerves to try to cover everything up by comparing Harikesh with Maha Bhagavatas of our pure parampara, who really are aloof from bodily consciousness. How insulting and disgusting!

Srila Prabhupada wanted people to adore us for our honesty but now our own people, the devotees and the Indian community, are laughing at the constant shameless and silly coverups by the GBC for over 30 years. Ultimately Lord Krishna knows the truth – we can only cheat and fool ourselves.

I am shocked by your false accusation that Ram Parashar Prabhu was distributing this in the temple room. To my knowledge he just gave one sealed envelop to you only. Is that called distribution? Aren’t devotees suppose to be honest? And that too in front of the Lord in the temple room? What are you learning? Is this your training as a brahmachari? In Kaliyuga the last leg of religion is truthfulness and you are arrogantly breaking even that!

Ram Parashar Prabhu is one of the most sincere and honest servant of Srila Prabhupada I have come across. I have known him for over 17 years. He sacrificed his prestigious post of National PR Director of ISKCON India to stand up for Srila Prabhupada and truth, 20 years ago, and came to LA. Here also in 1998 he had to pay a very heavy price – sacrifice his son – to continue fighting for Srila Prabhupada instead of compromising, which most of people do.

Moreover, his sister-in-law, Satya was molested by Lokanath Swami (!) over 20 years ago. Since then, he has neither sincerely apologized nor the GBC has taken any serious action against him. She is still mad at him. We may recite the story of Durbasa Muni and Ambarisha Maharaja like a parrot, cover up our actions, but the fact is that even Lord Krishna will not forgive us till the devotee we have offended forgives us.

You have titled your message Hati Mata – mad elephant, implying that you consider the papers given to you be given to your Guru, offensive. How much more offensive is when Srila Prabhupada, the founder of Hare Krishna movement is being offended left and right by blatantly disobeying him and destroying his dear movement. This is real hati mata or for that matter MAHA HATI MATA!

This is a serious matter and needs serious attention. Not just emotional or sentimental outburst. Our own future and future of the world depends upon honestly resolving these issues.

In fact for over thirty years any sincere questioning of the wrong doings by the leaders is silenced in the name of this so called Hati mata while ignoring the MAHA HATI MATA. Also, anyone who dared to ask questions was either beaten up, banned, expelled or even silenced by killing. Now thanks to the internet it is becoming increasingly clear to intelligent, educated and honest people world wide that Srila Prabhupada has been seriously betrayed by his own leading and trusted men and his pure Hare Krishna movement has been hijacked by his over ambitious followers posing themselves as the gurus, for their own labha, puja and pratistha.

Here are some of the serious issues to be resolved:

1. Alleged murder by poisoning of Srila Prabhupada. No full and honest GBC investigation in the matter has been done in the last 13 years since it became open in 1997.

2. Youth/Gurukuli second generation/ FUTURE HOPE of ISKCON destroyed. 95% of them are so disgusted that they don’t even want to do anything with the movement.

3. 95% of senior Prabhupada disciples were offended, got disenchanted and left.

4. Massive unauthorized book changes by the BBT.

The tone of your letter is angry. I urge you to direct your anger at the enemies of Prabhupada who have destroyed and are still destroying his movement. The only reason that the madness in Hare Krishna movement has gone on so far is because the whole Guru business is supported by blind and fanatic followers like you of these so called gurus. Prabhupada called this the the Kupa Manduka (frog in the well) mentality. Or the owl consciousness!

You have used the phrase “garbage ritvik”. Srila Prabhupada has used the word ritvik at several places in his books, letters, and the word has also come out of his lotus mouth in conversation, so can you please do the Vedabase search and show me the phrase “garbage ritvik”. How dare you offend Srila Prabhupada like that?. I urge you to immediately fall at his lotus feet and apologize for your grave offense.

Even after two weeks I am still waiting from your Guru or your GBC authorities a written response. I will consider a meeting only if there is a satisfactory written response. The vedic system is of shastrartha – either you defeat the arguments or will have to accept them.

Haribol!

Your’s in service to Srila Prabhupada

Thank You prabhu very much for the very moving, throughout honest and important testimony! Thank you for Your exemplary Vaishnava courage too!

  2. (This article was originally written by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati
Thakura Prabhupada and first published in the 8th volume of Dainik Nadiya
Prakasa on 29th October 1933 under the title, Rasa Yatra).

Today is Rasa-purnima. Many people have gathered in Navadvipa, Santipura,
Vrndavana, Puri and other holy places. The purpose of these pilgrims is to
take darsana of Sri Krsna’s rasa-lila. It is the opinion of those who are
knowledgeable of their spiritual identity that there is no other greater seva
than this, and in this respect there is no doubt that it is everyone’s duty
to endeavor to gain qualification for this seva. Without first climbing the
branch of a tree, trying to reach the fruits is a disturbance.

What tattva is Sri Krsna? What is our svarupa? What is the tattva of Sri
Krsna’s Gopis? What is our relationship with Them? Without knowing what is
actually rasa-lila, then in our attempt to attain darsana of that rasa, we
shall simply try to pursue our desire to enjoy. We will not pursue the real
thing. Sri Krsna is aprakrta-vastu (fully spiritual). We cannot comprehend
Him through material knowledge. Neither the physical senses nor the knowledge
acquiring senses are sufficient to attain knowledge of Krsna. Those
Vraja-Gopis with whom Krsna performs His rasa-lila, are just like Sri Krsna
in that they are inaccessible to material intelligence. So long as there
remains a fraction of lust in our consciousness, then we have no
qualification to take darsana of that rasa. Lust can never find a place in
the heart of a devotee of Sri Krsna who has eka-nistha-bhakti (one-pointed
exclusive devotion). If at any time a devotee of Krsna happens to think about
lusty affairs and starts to look at those, then by his good fortune a desire
will arise in him to spit. Therefore one mahajana has sung thus:

    yad-avadhi mama cetah krsna-padaravinde
    nava-nava-rasa-dhamany udyatam rantum asit
    tad-avadhi bata nari-sangame smaryamane
    bhavati mukha-vikarah susthu nisthivanam ca

“Ever since my mind became immersed in the light of ever-new rasas at
Krsna’s lotus feet, whenever I recall my previous association with women,
my mouth turns in disgust and I spit at the thought.” (BRS 2.5.72)

It is especially observed that only the baddha-jivas are inclined towards
following the path of sensual enjoyment. Sri Sukadeva has told Maharaja
    Pariksit:

    naitat samacarej jatu
    manasapi hy anisvarah
    vinasyaty acaran maudhyad
    yatha ‘rudro ‘bdhi-jam visam

“One should not engage in these activities if he is not as powerful as the
Lord, not even in the mind. If one does so out of foolishness, then he will
be destroyed, just as drinking an ocean of poison would destroy someone
    without Siva’s powers”. (Bhag. 10.33.30)

Except for the Lord, these things (the rasa-lila etc.) should not be
practiced by anyone, even in the mind. Apart from Rudra, anyone else who
drinks an ocean of poison will only invite destruction. If by foolishness
someone tries to imitate the Lord’s lila, then he will be destroyed. We can
observe in Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s pastimes in Nilacala – He
performed nama-sankirtana only amongst His general associates and with His
intimate associates He tasted rasa. The aforementioned divine mellows are
complete and flourishing in rasa-lila and are meant to be relished internally
by confidential liberated devotees. Now, if we conditioned souls, under the
laws of material nature, run after the darsana of rasa-lila then whatever
proper or improper sadhana we perform will be reviewed by the highly advanced
    and learned devotees.

All the materially conditioned people that run after rasa-lila darsana can be
divided into two classes – one class is the atheistic moralists, and the
other class are the immoral sense enjoyers. In order to show how the
aforementioned classes become entangled in difficulties after hearing about
the rasa-lila, Maharaja Pariksit, after hearing the rasa-lila from the divine
mouth of Sri Sukadeva, masquerading as such a person of that class, asked a
    question. The inquiry was this:

    samsthapanaya dharmasya
    prasamayetarasya ca
    avatino hi bhagavan
    amsena jagad-isvarah
    sa katham dharma-setunam
    vakta kartabhiraksita
    pratipam acarad brahman
    para-darabhimarsanam

“O brahmana, the Lord of the entire universe, has descended to earth in order
to destroy adharma and reestablish dharma. Indeed, He is the original
creator, follower and guardian of dharma. So how could He have violated them
by touching other men’s wives?” (Bhag.10.33.26-27)

Sri Krsna is the highest enjoyer, and the Gopis, His eternal maidservants,
cannot be enjoyed by anyone else but Him. They are only the medium of that
rasa, which is created by parakiya-bhava. As long as a desire to enjoy lusty
affairs remains in our heart and as long as we perform activities that are
unfavorable for krsna-bhajana, then even after having ceased relations with
our family or pretending that we have ceased, whatever the case may be –
until we understand that krsna-bhajana is our only duty in life then we
cannot realize such high realities about the Gopis and Krsna. Those spiritual
teachings that exist in the manifested pastimes of the Gopis cannot even
slightly enter the heads of atheistic moralists because in atheistic morality
there is nothing that passes beyond the knowledge of mundane chemistry that
is based upon the exploitation of material elements.

Maharaja Pariksit, though he was a bhagavata, asked the aforementioned
question because, due to their offensive tendency, atheistic moralists accuse
Sri Krsna of debauchery. The crest jewel of eternally liberated
maha-bhagavatas, Srila Sukadeva Gosvami, answered his query. We have already
mentioned the answer of Sri Sukadeva.

Immoral, licentious people go to hear the rasa-lila simply to satisfy their
personal dispositions. And the disciples of Kali, for a wage of two-paisa,
having obtained some material scholarship and a little knowledge of anusvara
and visarga, with lustful consciousness, pose as reciters of rasa-lila. In
a ‘fit of bhava’ they drench their breasts with a flood of tears.
Moreover it has been said, “When the recitation is over and the time comes
to accept donations of money, clothes etc, they suddenly regain their
consciousness!” All glories to Kali-yuga for such a performance!

During a stay in Nilacala at Purusottama Matha, the famous zamindar, the
pride of the Kayasthas, Rajarsi Sriyukta Saradindu Narayana Raya (MA),
Prajna-vedanta-bhusana Mahasaya of Dinajpur, once informed me about a recital
of the rasa-pancadhyaya by a particular famous reciter of the class mentioned
above, who had a beautiful voice. Explaining the gist of the sloka, naitat
samacarejjatu, I told him that a baddha-jiva such as myself had no
qualification to hear and speak about the rasa-lila. He informed the main
reciter of my words, and the reciter replied by quoting the following sloka
in order to establish that he indeed had the adhikara to speak and that his
audience was also qualified to hear him speak about the rasa-lila:

    vikriditam vraja-vadhubhir idam ca visnoh
    sraddhanvito ‘nusrnuyad atha varnayed yah
    bhaktim param bhagavati pratilabhya kamam
    hrd-rogam asv apahinoty acirena dhirah

“If a self-controlled person listens with faith to the confidential pastimes
of Sri Krsna with the damsels of Vraja, from the mouth of Sri Guru and
glorifies it at every second, then he immediately obtains transcendental
devotion towards the Supreme Lord and becomes capable of distancing himself
from the heart disease of lust without delay.” (Bhag. 10.33.40)

Without meditating upon the actual meaning of this verse, if we are only
eager to hear about the rasa-lila for the sake of listening without
discretion, and if we attempt to enjoy the rasa-lila when we are afflicted by
a licentious consciousness, then we will fall into a state of severe
    illusion.

It was my misfortune to be introduced to this aforementioned reciter. He was
in babaji-vesa. One day I saw him at the Puri station with a nice pair of
fashionable shoes adorning his feet. Thereafter, I undertook a special
enquiry and discovered that he had two or three matajis. Naturally, while
visiting a disciple’s house, the matajis don’t accompany the babaji but
stay nearby at an akhra. The babaji is almost elderly. For many years he has
been reciting the Bhagavata – even so, why has the heart disease of lust
not subsided? Why has his state gradually come to resemble that of Yayati?

Reciters should take note of the word ‘dhira’ in the aforementioned
verse. The rasa-lila should only be heard and continuously sung by a
self-controlled person. It is not a subject matter for discussion by one who
is afflicted with lust. Except for the pure Vaisnava, others cannot be
considered to be dhira. Because their minds are running here and there for
the sake of worldly sense objects, they are adhira. Therefore, they have no
qualification to hear and preach about the rasa-lila.

From whom does a completely self-controlled person hear about the rasa-lila?
Not from a person afflicted with lust, but from the lotus feet of Sri Guru
who is free from lust. And in front of whom does he perform kirtana? Not in
front of an unqualified person, but confidentially and individually to a
qualified person. For what purpose does he continuously glorify the topic of
rasa? Not for the sake of earning money, but out of love for Krsna. What is
the result? As regards the result, the self-controlled never pray for any
other result other than the pleasure of Krsna – and in his heart, even if
somewhere there is a small amount of lust hidden, then by the auspicious
desire of Sri Krsna it is removed and that excellent self-controlled devotee
stays absorbed in the pleasure of service.

Therefore, to gain qualification to see or hear the rasa-lila, one should
become dhira. Being self-controlled one should serve the lotus feet of the
sad-guru (bona-fide spiritual master) and should be patient to gain that
qualification. Without first climbing the branch of a tree, the fruits can
    never be reached.
