Hare Krsna.

I have been planning to put something up on this forum but have been very busy. We’re finally starting to catch up so I’ve got a few spare minutes to jot something down and post it.

My family and I live in the deep south, next door to the New Talavan farm. It is a semi tropical region with long summers, a mild spring and fall, and there is also some winter weather to deal with but it rarely snows, normally in the 50-30/60-40 degree range.

BUT we do have the occasional cold snaps that keep us on our feet. When Srila Prabhupada was here in Aug of 75, he said that the place reminded him of Bengal.

So we are able to grow a great variety of fruits, vegs and grains. I think the cows also do better in the milder climate, grass is available for grazing year round, in the winter a cold hardy grass has to be planted, like grazing wheat or rye grass.

The cows really like the winter grasses, for them it must be like eating candy although it is best to supplement the winter grazing with some hay, a straight grass diet gives them loose bowels.

We have been living the HK farm life since 1978,starting at Murari sevak,where we lived for five years and then we moved further down south to New Talavan and have been located down here ever since. On our small farm we grow as many different varieties as possible and are always experimenting with new ones, that is half of the fun of it.

I hope that this site is successful, it would be nice to have a place to disscuss the HK farming life style.
