The new VedaBase 2011.1 of the Bhaktivedanta Archives!
(completely useless due to the removal of Prabhupadas Pre-1978 books)
The Bhaktivedanta VedaBase 2011.1 update, which is freely distributed by the BA, is an update to the contents only, not an upgrade to the outdated old software.
This content Update has finally removed all of Srila Prabhupadas original books (except for the BG.) Therefore this new vedabase 2011.1 ist totally useless for any sincere Prabhupada follower. In the introduction to the new Vedabase 2011.1 it says: “Removed from 2011.1: Pre-1978 books, except Bhagavad-gita. (Removed due to vexing double hits.)”
Perhaps the Archives devotees have removed Prabhupadas original Pre-1978 books due to pressure from Iskcons bogus GBC. We therefore like to warn all sincere devotees not to get entangled with this unauthorized new Version and useless edition.
We should encourage all the devotees to download the VedaBase containig the original Pre-1978 books for free instead of purchasing it from the Archives for hundreds of dollars! It only takes a few minutes to download, and then they would get a version free of the very annoying, very cumbersome copy-protection and bogus translations.
Unfortunately there is NO ONE Vedabase containing all the original Pre-1978 books as well as all the lectures of Srila Prabhupada, WITHOUT the bogus BBTI books. Most of the different VedaBase versions is a hodge-podge mixture of original Prabhupada books, new BBT changed Prabhuapda books plus many other books by Prabhupada’s disciples and bogus gurus. It has a lot of useful information mixed up with a lot of useless things written by people who are not liberated souls.
However, there are two versions of VedaBase, which contain the Pre-1978 books in one edition and all the lectures in the other edition, free for download.
Pre-1978_Books_Only.rar
Vedabase2003.1.rar
VedabaseFonts.rar
The “Pre-1978_Books_Only.rar” contains Srila Prabhupada’s unchanged books.
The “Vedabase2003.1.rar” contains all the Lectures but NOT the original books.
The “VedabaseFonts.rar” contains all the Windows Fonts needed for reading the Vedabase.
Bei downloading both of the RAR-Files you have the complete works of Srila Prabhupada, no need to get the new update which has removed the Pre-1978 Books. They can be downloaded for free, either from http://namhatta.com or from this site. (download, uncompress with ‘WinRar’ or ‘WinZip’, install and enjoy
——-
Instructions for files downloaded:
1. Use WinRAR to uncompress the .rar files.
2. Both versions contain the unchanged books.
3. Pre-1978_Books_Only.rar contains only the unchanged books.
4. Vedabase2003.rar contains both plus letters, transcriptions and lots of other stuff.
5. Vedabase2003.rar installs from anywhere.
6. Pre-1978_Books_Only.rar assumes that it’s in the root directory, so you have to copy the uncompressed files to a newly formatted USB flash drive in order to install it.
7. VedabaseFonts.rar is only needed if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. When installing using Vista or 7, use Windows XP Compatibility Mode. After installing the VedaBase, copy the fonts to C:\Windows\Fonts.
8. After installing using Vista or 7, run the VedaBase and click “Tools / Options…” Then enter “ScaHelvetica” as the “Infobase view font / Name:”.

Different ways of installing the VedaBase under Windows 7
1. If you have Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium, you must upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, Business or Ultimate.
2. Download and install two free programs from Microsoft: *Windows XP Mode * and*Windows Virtual PC*
3. With *Windows XP Mode* running under *Windows Virtual PC* you get a window which looks exactly like a Windows XP desktop.
4. With the Windows XP Virtual Desktop active, install the VedaBase <VedaBase2003.1.rar> as usual.
5. Once it’s installed, you no longer have to run* Windows XP Mode* / *Windows Virtual PC *separately. They are automatically loaded whenever you load the VedaBase!
————
The VedaBase can be installed on win7 quite easily without compatibility mode or whatever. just install with right mouse click (as administrator), ignore all error windows, and after installing copy the “Pre-78 book materials.nfo” into C:\Pre 1978 BBT Books\Infobases… that’s all. and then start with directly doubleclicking that nfo-file. ..
————
Windows 7 user face sometimes problems, always install with right mouse click “as Administrator”, for “Pre-1978-Books-Only” install also with right mouse, then ignore the following Dozens of error-windows, choose “Complete”, finish installation and then copy the “Pre-78 book materials.nfo” (in “Infobases”) to C:\Pre 1978 BBT Books\Infobases (if it is not there already). When you open the “Folio Views” and it is empty, go to File–Open—the aforementioned nfo-file

VedaBase 2003 Secrets
It’s easy to extract MP3s from the VedaBase in the *Bhagavad-gita* or *Songs of the Vaisnava Acaryas* sections. Simply click on the “Audio” button, and the corresponding MP3 file magically appears in “C:\Bhaktivedanta VedaBase 2003\Cache.”

What you don’t like on VedaBase 2003 you can delete from the .sdw file. There are about 250 NEW letters in the VedaBase 2011 which can be copied and pasted into VedaBase 2003.sdw. So it is not useless if you know how to use it. Tell me what you want on the .sdw file and I will make it, zip it and upload it for you to use in VedaBase 2003.
Thanks july9th, is it possible that I can have the upgrade with just those 250 new letters? Thanks! When doing the upgrade with Vedabase 2011.1 does this overwrite the original books of Prabhupada? I if this is the case do I have to uninstall and re-install the 2003 Vedabase?
If you have gone through Vedabase 2011.1 and decided that ONLY the new 250 letters are required to add to your Vedabase 2003 version then I can do that for you but you could probably do it yourself, just copy and paste then save (in the .sdw). Some of the other new material on Vedabase 2011.1 will not paste into Vedabase 2003 as some new ‘styles’ have been introduced. To do that, the new styles have to be replaced prior to the copy and paste.
Yes, I can do that. It will be just another file to place in you existing Nfo folder.
I’ll call it Vedabase 2011.2
PATH = C:/Bhaktivedanta VedaBase 2003/Nfo
If the webmaster can e-mail me somewhere to upload it?
As there may be others who will want it also.
Dear july9th, thank you very much for your info concerning the 250 new letters in the new Vedabase 2011. Can you please remove everything in the new Vadabase, EXCEPT the 250 letters and send this corrected .sdw file to: info@prabhupadanugas.eu
Please also kindly describe how to integrate this corrected .sdw file into an existing Vedabase 2003
Thank you very much for your service.
All Glories to Srila Prabhupada
I USE MAC, ANY IDEA…?
VedaBase for apple mac
http://www.indiadivine.org/audarya/hare-krishna-forum/375393-vedabase-apple-mac.html
You can use the current Windows version in VirtualPC for the Mac.
There will be NO Mac version.
Folio Corp does not support the Mac any longer.
Thank you.

I am in need of the bhaktivedanta vedabase to run on my apple mac computer
Me too. For OSX.

There is no Vedabase version for Mac, for the 2003.1 edition.
Will there be a Mac version? More and more devotees seem to use Macs.
To: Bhaktivedanta.Archives.Forum (AT) pamho (DOT) net
We’re sorry to promulgate, but the Bhaktivedanta Archives simply doesn’t
have the resources, nor the man-power for this rather extensive undertaking.
Besides the Mac market for the Bhaktivedanta VedaBase is much too small to
fully justify this kind of endeavor.
Ramakanta’s suggestion to develop for version 3.1 is somewhat viable,
however the software will not run in system 10.
System 9 will be history soon, so there is really no point spending that
extra time, and it’s precious time we don’t have for this purpose.
Plus outdated coding and compatibility problems would certainly arise in
the process.
NXT, as already researched in previous years and considered feasible to
implement on the web is absolutely out of our league, costing Mega Dollars,
$40K+.
Conversion to XML is certainly worth looking into, but we would need
professional volunteer help to do this. There are also issues associated
with this approach to be deliberated.
That brings us back to running VirtualPC on the Mac, by which Mac users can
take full advantage of running the current Bhaktivedanta VedaBase version now.
Granted it’s performance is somewhat slower as compared to a standard PC,
but for those fired-up and dedicated Mac Bhaktivedanta VedaBase users who
might possibly be troubled by performance lag, etc, purchasing an
inexpensive PC would certainly be a justifiable option, …for preaching of
course.

But don’t you still have the Folio program version 3.x that runs on
the Mac? Can’t you create a Vedabase for the Mac by using Folio 3 with
the texts that are in the 2003.1 edition?
Another possibility:
Prepare the infobase for browser access, and put that on a DVD for all
your Mac customers, or just make the XML infobase available on the net.

explains it all.

I use Vedabase with “crossover” for mac on my OSX and it runs fine http://www.codeweavers.com
I hate windows its too buggy to even use as a virtual PC once you make the leap to mac you will never return to windows! its just like once you come to the living lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada, you will never return to the bogus stinky feet of some imposters that are just fumbling conditioned soul on big chairs and with big name tags that are waiting to be exposed as corrupt fumbling people like myself.
Please can you email me separately how to install VedaBase2003 with crossover? I’ve tried installing using the default Windows installer, but it’s not working – although it says it has installed, it’s not there at all. Help!
No need to install it, but you do need to have the old version installed. Assuming that you have the old version installed:
1. Right-click on the “Bhaktivedanta VedaBase 2011.1.nfo” file.
2. Choose “Open with/Choose default program…”
3. Click “Browse.”
4. Navigate to the “C:\Bhaktivedanta VedaBase 2003” folder.
5. Double-click on the “Views.exe” file.
6. Make sure that “Always use the selected program for this kind of file” is checked.
7. Click “OK.”
8. Folio Views should then come up with the new version of the VedaBase loaded.
From then on, all that you have to do to bring it up is to double-click the “Bhaktivedanta VedaBase 2011.1.nfo” file icon or a shortcut to it.
prabhu is the corrected .sdw file for new vedabase done?
http://hidemyass.com/files/yz7o9/
It is an ongoing work but this may be of use to some.
It has the new files from 2011 version on it, plus others.
Anything which is surplice to requirements can be deleted.
Just place the file in your NFO folder and open with Views. If you want to keep both .sdw files best to rename one of them.
Hey thanks for the download – I was wondering where in the Vedabase2003.rar are the original Bhagavatams beyond canto 2? Are the other Prabupdada Books in this 2003 version unchanged or is there a separate place in the info base where all the pre-78 books are found in one place? It seems from the postings above
“1. Use WinRAR to uncompress the .rar files.
>2. Both versions contain the unchanged books.4. Vedabase2003.rar contains both plus letters, transcriptions and lots of other stuff.<
5. Vedabase2003.rar installs from anywhere.
So it installed (happy!) but i want to find the Pre-1978_Books in this 2003 vedabase are the room conversations and lectures unchanged in this version?
Thanks!
I just have to note that I did buy a Vedabase from BBT in year 2000 – I paid over $1200 for it! That Vedabase – with the old style printer port dongle is completely useless now – as there are no such ‘ports’ on today’s computers – I paid $1200 for software that is now totally – unusable.
The Great Sinister Movement removed Srila Prabhupada’s gayatri in order to try to control him. However, some of us have a copy! ~(>,’ )
HDG at 2nd initiation (gayatri) would give a piece of paper with the mantra on it. At the top was written in caps, “CONFIDENTIAL”.
This Gayatri mantra is meant for spiritually advanced people. When one is successful in chanting the Gayatri mantra, he can enter into the transcendental position of the Lord. One must therefore acquire brahminical qualities or be perfectly situated in the quality of goodness in order to chant the Gayatri mantra successfully and then attain to the stage of transcendentally realizing the Lord, His name, His fame, His qualities and so on.

Dandavats, I tried hitting on your Vedabase links, but they did not work. Looks like esotericteaching.com site is abandoned. I would like the original Prabhupada pre-1978 books . How can I get them?
I would be willing to give a donation to put your site back up if you’d put the Vedabase back up.

Pre’78 books are here ….

Devi Ray says: I am trying to download the pre-78 vedabase.
VedaBase 2003 contains both the changed and the pre-1978 versions of Srila Prabhupada’s books. Try downloading it using the following torrent:
http://kickass.to/bhaktivedanta-vedabase-2003-prabhupada-teachings-complete-iso-t3837841.html
You end up with an image of the original CD-ROM in the form of an ISO file. With Windows 8, simply right-click on the ISO file and select “Mount.” A virtual CD-ROM will then be created as the next available drive letter after drive C. (Usually D or E.)
With earlier versions of Windows, you can do the same thing after downloading and installing a free program called Virtual CloneDrive:
http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html
…except that, instead of “Mount,” you must select, for example, “Mount (Virtual CloneDrive E:).”
You may find step-by-step instructions on how to install VedaBase 2003 under Windows 7 or 8 here:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/istagosthi/sKtTt-T82Zk
When installing vedabase put all the files directly on C:/. I tried to install vedabase having the vedabase files in a folder on my desktop, it didn’t work.
Hemasarira das says: When installing vedabase put all the files directly on C:/. I tried to install vedabase having the vedabase files in a folder on my desktop, it didn’t work.
This is only true of the “Pre-1978_Books_Only” install, but you don’t need to copy the files to your hard drive. They can be copied to the root directory of a USB flash drive and installed from there.
In any case, as far as I know, “Pre-1978_Books_Only” is no longer available as a separate download.
Using the method that I’ve described above, the ISO file can be anywhere on your hard drive, and when it is mounted, none of the files on the newly created virtual CD-ROM need to be manually copied to your hard drive.
“VedaBase 2003 contains both the changed and the pre-1978 versions of Srila Prabhupada’s books.”
False statement. It only contains changed versions, ie: some are more changed then others.
Why don’t you check for yourself? – or if you are too lazy to do that, ask the Archives.
Joe says…some are more changed then others….if you are too lazy to do that, ask the Archives.
Better to be lazy intelligent than active foolish. It’s “than others,” not “then others!”
