Urd Dahl with Tomatoes | HONOURING THE LORD’S PRASADA

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2/3 cup split urad dahl
  • water
  • 5 large plum tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 t ghee
  • 2 t fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • 1 t mustard seeds
  • 1 t ground coriander
  • 1/2 t black pepper
  • 1/4 t hing
  • 1/2 t turmeric
  • 1 crushed red chili or 1/8 t cayenne
  • salt, as desired

PREPARATION:

  1. Boil mung in plenty of water on medium to high boil about 25-30 minutes.
  2. Add tomatoes and continue to cook on low heat and covered about 30 minutes more until dahl is cooked and tomatoes soft.
  3. Heat ghee in sauce pan until hot. Add ginger and mustard seeds. After seeds are almost done popping and ginger browned, add hing, followed by coriander powder, black pepper, chili, and turmeric. Pour chaunce immediately into soup.
  4. Stir in salt.

Offer to Srila Prabhupada with a bowl of rice or steaming hot parathas and sweetened yogurt.
