NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday ordered status quo on a property dispute of the Bangalore unit of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon).
A bench of justices B S Chauhan and Swatanter Kumar, while posting the matter for further hearing in July, however, asked the Mumbai and Bangalore centres of Iskcon to work out an amicable solution to maintain the “high credibility of the august organization”.
The apex court said there shall be no interference in day-to-day administration of the Bangalore unit.
“We expect the learned counsel shall spend time and convince the two groups to sit across the table and find out an amicable solution. We do expect that the august institution would not continue with the litigation,” the bench told senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi and U U Lalit appearing for the Mumbai and Banglore units of Iskcon.
On May 23, the Karnataka high court ruled that the entire property of Bangalore Iskcon belongs to Mumbai. Aggrieved by the order, the Bangalore unit moved the apex court by way of a special leave petition.
Stating that iskcon bangalore had no legal existence, the high court had upheld iskcon mumbai’s claim that the plaintiff society was defunct.
“There is no legal existence to bangalore society. By falsifying accounts, president madhu pandit das has conspired to breathe life into the society,” a division bench comprising justice nagamohan das and justice arali nagraj had said while hearing a petition by mumbai, iskcon.(more) pti rb pal 06061921
