Ingredients
- For the cover:
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- water to knead dough
- 2 tbsp oil
- pinch of salt
- For Stuffing:
- 3-4 medium or large potatoes (boiled, peeled & mashed)
- ½ cup green peas (boiled)
- 1-2 green chili (finely chopped)
- ½ tsp ginger (crushed)
- 1 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)
- ½ tsp garam masala
- salt to taste
- red chili powder to taste
- ½ tsp. dry mango powder (Amchur)
- 1 tbsp chopped cashews (optional)
Method:
For the cover (samosa cone or shell):
Mix all the ingredients (salt, oil, ajwain) except water. Add a little water at a time. Pat and knead well for several times into a soft pliable dough. Cover it with moist muslin cloth and keep aside for 15 minutes.
Stuffing:
In a bowl, add mashed potatoes and all dry masalas (salt, chili powder, mango powder, garam masala), green chili and ginger. Mix well. Add green peas, cashews and raisins and mix well. Add coriander and keep aside.
Making the Samosa.
Make small rolls of dough and roll it into a 4”-5” diameter circle. Cut it in two parts to form a semi-circle. Take one semi circle and fold it like a cone. Use water while doing so.
Place a spoon of stuffing in the cone and seal the third side using a drop of water.
Heat oil or ghee in a frying pan and deep fry till golden brown on a medium flame.
Serve hot with mint and hot green chutney, tamarind chutney and tomatoe sauce.
Fruit Serving.
Cut all large fruits into smaller pieces about an inch in size. Refrigerate and serve with the samosa. This makes a great combination and also offsets some of the heat from the samosa. Serving fruits as shown in the picture is optional but goes well. Offer to Srila Prabhupada!

I have always been intrigued by this ‘reply’ by Srila Prabhupada, especially the “That’s not possible” part!
When I was much younger, this was particularly puzzling as there was so much energy and commitment to fulfill Srila Prabhupada’s mission and the feeling that ‘anything is possible, and that change was just around the corner!’ seemed to be in the air, but then ISKCON seemed to go “pear shaped!”
We of course, all read the predictions of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur that ”the Holy Name will be chanted in every town and village”, so then what could possibly go wrong? after all how could this not be, given the prediction by one of the Acharyas in our sampradaya? In the last several decades the world has become much more degraded and it seems to be getting worse by the day and we can see that Kali’s vice-like grip has a much more powerful influence on society, coupled with a dramatic decline in religious life.
I guess in hindsight it takes a while to come to the realization that very few persons actually are prepared to follow Srila Prabhupada sincerely, something that is not obvious when one is overcome by youthful exuberance, much earlier in ones spiritual life. We should remain in the knowledge that Srila Prabhupada gave/and is giving us, all the tools required to surrender at the Lotus Feet of Lord Krishna in his transcendental books which should be forever protected for future disciples to come.
Balaram Prabhu has sent me some wonderful stories about George Harrison, including the fact that he had asked Srila Prabhupada, whether he should ‘move into the temple’ but as this particular ‘link’ to which I am referring goes, it is clear that George Harrison Prabhu was a very advanced soul, ready to renounce his wealthy lifestyle for Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada in the above conversation makes the point very clearly that if ‘leading men, they take it seriously then others will follow’ There is no doubt that George’s wonderful songs about Lord Krishna and the fame that he commanded influenced many thousands, if not millions of people. This is certainly no ordinary feat and Srila Prabhupada was very pleased with his service to Lord Krishna, something that many people underestimate, in my humble opinion.

Go to pp 4-6 if you’re pushed for time. What Daglord says makes sense to me. He seems cool-headed and rather reasonable. But that is just my opinion. Of course you are free to form your own.
One thing that sticks in my mind that totally discounts the “Adorno wrote the Beatles songs” theory is this… after he died in 1969, the Beatles disbanded in 1970 yet they all went on to record solo albums. Admittedly Ringo wasn’t much of a songwriter but the other three went on to pen volumes and volumes of songs and albums – all in their same distinct styles that they displayed as individuals as members of the Beatles. Obviously no Adorno influence there, unless it was from the grave!
It is common knowledge that the Lennon/McCartney songwriting partnership dissolved early on (after the first few years) and the accreditation was merely a legal bind/obligation. Generally they wrote their own material with varied input from the other four (including George Martin of course, the fifth Beatle) even to the point of Paul playing drums and George playing bass for some tracks!

Now I would like to go into an analysis of their individual songwriting styles for the purpose of explaining why I think this conspiracy theory is potentially wrong. You can compare my notes to the songlist and form your own opinion. I’ll start with the easiest to isolate, George, because his contributions to the Beatles’ repertoire were unique, invariably purely his own work, and he continued in the same vein as a solo artiste in a distinctly un-Lennon/McCartneyesque style (I think I just made up a word!).
George uses very traditional, circular chord progressions – often ‘pretty’, even ‘dainty’ – with minimal modulations – although he does use the odd key change, such as half way through My Sweet Lord. His lyrics often touch on spiritual issues (Here Comes the Sun, For You Blue, Something; all three are about Kṛṣṇa) yet can be quite humorous or satirical (Taxman, Only A Northern Song).
The difference between John and Paul however is insular and quite distinct. John chose serious topics, and his melodies are often simple, straightforward, flat-lining or with little ornamentation – often centering around a single note (Revolution, Come Together, Help! [sing the verse, the first ten syllables are on one note], I Am The Walrus). Paul on the other hand removes himself from reality and creates fictional characters, using a skipping melody that climbs and drops, jumping all over the place (Rocky Racoon, Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, Eleanor Rigby), true to his Watery Cancer sign (John is a dry Air sign, Libran).
Sometimes they seem to imitate each other, like McCartney’s Back in the USSR and Lennon’s The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill – either they were feeding off each other, rôle swapping, or more probably taking the mickey out of each other. After all, The Beatles DID love to clown around. But generally it can be said that (to quote John) Paul “writes granny shit” (uses flippant material) and that John is more topical, political and controversial. And deadly serious, even to the point of being depressing.
One peculiarity of style I would like to highlight is the very Beatlesque substitution of minor chords in odd places during I, IV, V progressions. This breaks away from the familiar 12 bar pattern that rock’n’roll was formulated on, lending them a soft, emotional warmth that belies the hardened rock persona/image of the 50’s. For example the later verse in Michelle that starts as minor instead of major like the rest of the song. Also they would often follow a major chord with the minor variant, as in If I Fell. Very pretty, soft stuff, not at all the material of hardened rockers as in their fledgling trials in Hamburg. After all – real musicians are softies.
Another pattern is the descending bass line, for example A, G, F#, F (While My Guitar Gently Weeps) etc in many of their songs. Sometimes this is mutated to C, C7, F, Fm (Dear Prudence, Hold Me Tight); or a similar thing. So often the modulation is to a minor related key (In My Life), although their songs contain many surprising twists and turns with unexpected substituted chords that make the ears prick up (I’m A Loser, I Am The Walrus, Day Tripper).
I suggest that it is this fearless entry into feminine minor chords in unusual places that touched so many millions of people’s hearts around the globe and made them popular.
Now, a little on Theodor Adorno, whom the conspiracy theorists claim wrote all the Beatles songs. He was amongst other things a sociologist and Classical composer, ascribing to Schöenberg’s atonal 12-tone music theory. He despised pop music for its simplicity and catchiness. For those unfamiliar with what 12-tone is, simply put, the ‘melody’ (if you could call it that) consists of all the single notes of the 12 semitones in an octave being used, in any order, one after another without any repetition – a note can’t be played twice unless the other 11 are played first. It is rule-based and has a very disturbing effect on the listener as there is no comforting reassurance of ‘returning home’, the melodic basis that drives traditional tunes. It’s a sort of intellectual snobbery in the music world, even worse than jazz that can’t be sung or danced to. There are only a couple of Beatles songs that venture into this dark area – perhaps the result of drunken or drug-induced jam sessions at best. 99% of their songs are extremely tonal.
That Adorno could pen the Beatles’ very tonal pop songs is a long stretch of the bow, given his bent towards atonality. That a classically trained musician could even be capable of composing such contemporary yet avante-garde (just-only-emerging-style) catchy tunes is even more ludicrous. And I’d certainly like to know how a German with only a limited English vocabulary came up with such great lyrics in rhyming meter!

Over the years since the 90’s post-ZAS, I have reacquainted with a few devotees in civilian mode. I will try not to criticise these devotees for for their outstanding contributions to the early sankirtan movement – yet I had the privelege to learn that in ordinary life (I wouldn’t call them karmis, for after all, who can forget Kṛṣṇa?) they were mostly wonderful people, but sometimes they displayed questionable qualities. Although ha ha there were some really dubious types – like Yaso who convinced me to do a heist on a heroin dealer – but mercifully we had a car crash and it was circumvented. Anne (Artri devi dasi, Sydney 1973) Georgia (Gopala devi dasi, Sydney 1973) her ex-husband Gunarnava (London, August 1971; afaik still devout active in iskcon) , Sahadeva the astrologer (Sydney, 1972) , and of course Yasomatinandana das Jim (Sydney, February, 1973), Gurnarnava’s brother), all active in Murwillumbah in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

I boarded over the wet season in Yaso’s house in Murwillumbah, briefly met Jim’s brother but.. Separately to this, I never did quite grasp/collect Govinda devi dasi’s husband’s Gunarnava’s name. (too many apostrophes?) He came out from England with his new wife, impressed me very much. Without going into too much detail, he was doing the formalities of divorce, a Western thing, and coupling it with a visit to Australia.
I tried to cook a humble meal for them, “sort of prasad” as I remembered but not really to script but in the mood, tried my best. Later Georgia, the kids, and I snuck off to have desserts and Gunarnava followed us and said “What are you trying to hide from me? Where are the sweets?”
I confessed that although the sweets I had cooked had not been formally offered to any Deities, they were authentic Vaishnava recipes. Apparently that was good enough for Gunarnava.
I felt privileged to have devotees accept my cooking.
There was much confusion (for us in the late 80’s) AND synchronicity around brothers Ian and Jim. Gopala devi dasi (Georgia) mistook my brother Ian for Yaso’s brother. How funny. Two brothers, same names, but not Hare Kṛṣṇa initiated devotees. I learnt a lot from that experience. That’s how we connected, and eventually in Murwillumbah. Got to meet everybody, and the inside stories of Bhavananda’s bus driver etc. courtesy of Gunarnava’s exposé (well, that’s only what Gopala dasi told me!)

The term ”conspiracy theory” was a term coined by the CIA. Musicians do not become famous by being ‘opposed’ to the demonic forces that are in control of this world, they become famous because they are duped into a program which serves the Illuminati through the promise of wealth, adoration and fame. The term ”anti-establishment” is a misnomer created by the Illuminati to tap into, control and degrade the naturally energetic and rebellious youth into worshiping a finite illusion which encourages them to engage in self destructive and soul killing behavior, disrespect their parents, take drugs and engage in illicit sex and homosex. Your opinion (in my opinion) is based on your own naive understanding which is coming from the mainstream sources, and media (all controlled by the illuminati). Faul had to lean to play bass left handed (as Paul was a ‘lefty’), so why does Faul play ‘right handed’ traps? (drum kit). All the stuff he plays is pretty rudimentary (he’s not Stanley Clarke!), so that isn’t a problem, just as Ringo is a less than average drummer (he plays ‘right handed traps’ but ‘leads’ with he left!). A very good drummer would play (right handed traps) leading with the right hand or even better play by ‘leading’ both right and left (ambidextrous!). The Beatles were part of the “sexual revolution” which is NOT incidental or accidental but a contrived, organized, financed and ‘stage managed’ construct of the Illuminati. This is why all of this is ‘contrived’ within secret societies as it only by stealth, lies. media manipulation, deceit, bewilderment illusion and MASS IGNORANCE that they get away with what they do. I am a semi- ambidextrous musician who plays guitar right handed, mridanga right handed yet am rhythmically biased towards lefthanded drums and tabletop tapping. At one stage I taught my younger lefthanded sister to play the guitar and actually took the time to learn lefthanded upside down chords so I could teach properly..
Yeah I know I went a bit overboard with the analysis of J, P, G & Ringo’s “style” – but I wanted to emphasise a point – that people all too quickly categorise some things as ‘cloned’, ‘conspiracies’, ‘artificial’, etc.
What I wanted to stress is that as a reasonably expert (self-opinioned ha ha) music aficionado, I have enough wits about me to be able to isolate and discern specific traits in their musical writing styles. Whether or not this is credible to you is at your discretion.
Either way I want to categorically state that in my honest opinion I do not accept for even a fleeting moment that this dickbrain Adorno contributed more than three words “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah”. He might’ve own proprietorship rights but as we all know, business is business, and the early music industry was of course organised (“pre-fabricated” if you will) in order to turn a profit. Not surprising and certainly not satanic – that’s how commerce works.
In finishing, please let me say one thing, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. Certainly the Beatless (pun intended) were greater as a group than as individuals. Given their breakup, George at last had a chance to show to the world that he was no lesser a songwriter than the hired talent. John and Paul’s first solo albums were testimony to that.

In reference to classical composers, musicians etc, George Martin was also such a personality (as well as a recording engineer), so what is ”ludicrous” about a classically trained musician/composer engaging in pop music? George Martin was only on a salary and was paid ‘peanuts’ but if Adorno actually did the writing he would have made a small fortune. George Harrison (alone) left an estate worth well over half a billion (and then there is ongoing royalties!) then there is the UK’s massive tax rate (upwards of 98%) so the government would have made 50 billion, just from George Harrison alone!

Mahavishnu Orchestra’s (mainly instrumental) “Visions of the Emerald Beyond” is a masterpiece. I have hundreds of cd’s but this is my favorite by far (apart from anything that Srila Prabhupada has recorded!)
