Oct 29 2011, Canada — The whole corporate capitalist system depends upon consumerism. Unless we are convinced of the necessity of purchasing their goods, the market collapses.
The embodied soul suffers under two layers of misconception; a subtle original one in which she wishes to be God-like, and a gross one of loss of self and identification with a form and format laid out by Maya devi to fulfill the desires.
If one hears from a bonafide source of knowledge as to what really is the Self, then the illusion is broken. The awakened soul then has to engage in the processes of devotional service, hopefully under the supervision of the perfect spirtual master, in order to fully “change the heart” and realize love of Godhead.
Thus, we can see the importance to the elites of maintaining a state of adequate false ego among the masses, to ensure that the materialist false-ego societies will continue to buy and sell their products to enrich the elites, things which in spirtual reality the soul does not need.
TV sets, commercials, and hype are everywhere in Western society, with common messages; money-rich, body-young, and gross ego-sexy, is beautiful. And they have everything you will be looking for to keep it that way, or attain it, for yourself.
All it will cost you is your time.
But there is a way to realize the spiritual Self; By chanting:
“Hare Krsna, Hares Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare,
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare”
– one is blessed to quickly awaken from the illusory dreams which one has embraced, and soon, the soul is again rightly situated in eternal blissful knowledge of loving devotional service to the Lord, in one’s original identity, never again to return to material consciousness.

Srila Prabhupada Letter to: Janaki
“Answering your puzzle, it may be said that a pure devotee is he who loves Krishna, without any material desire. People are generally engaged in karma. Karma means work and get the result and enjoy life. And jnana, jnana means speculating process to understand the Absolute Truth. So one who does not indulge in speculating habit, neither tries to gain something by his work, but simply engages himself in the service of the Lord, he is called a pure devotee.
Such pure devotees are very rare. But by the Grace of Krishna, practically all the devotees and disciples who have kindly joined me, they are, their symptoms are pure devotees. Even if they have got some ulterior desire, that will be removed very soon, because they have taken to the pure process of Krishna Consciousness.”
