Student: I think puris and halava, there isn’t a person in the world who doesn’t like it.
Prabhupada: Yes. Anything you’ll nicely prepare, tastefully, people will like.

Manjari devi dasi – Halava is a nice confection or sweet. This Orange Halava is done using honey – the awesome blend of orange and honey yields a special taste – it is rather mild in sweetness.
You can add 2 tbsp sugar in step 2 (optional). Orange halava is an absolute orangey – both in flavor and colour.
This simply heavenly delicacy takes approx. 30 mins cooking time. Raisins, dates, other dried fruits, or nuts such as almonds or walnuts, are often added to halava.
Mixing 1/2 tsp pure coconut oil with butter adds a fine flavor and taste. Offer to Krishna, bon appetit!
Ingredients:
400 ml fresh orange Juice
150 ml any good honey
2 – 3 tbsp butter mixed with 1/2 tsp pure coconut oil
2 tbsp chopped nuts and almonds
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
2 cups semolina
2 tbsp sugar – if needed (optional)
Directions:
1. Heat 400 ml orange juice.
2. Add honey little by little, cardamom powder and then crushed or chopped nuts.
3. Melt the butter in a large and deep pot. Pour two cups semolina and nuts in it and saute it over low heat stirring continually with a wooden spoon. Low heat is so important here, otherwise semolina gets dark very easily but not cooked. So you must be patient to wait some time (about 10 or 15 minutes) to cook it fine. Do not forget to stir it continually. You will feel its hearty scent and see the change in color. It will turn from yellow to brownish color gradually. This means it’s cooked.
4. Carefully add orange juice, since both of them are very hot, when you pour the orange juice, you’ll hear a very loud boiling noise. To prevent it from splashing, cover its lid immediately.
5. Spread it on a greased tray and allow it to settle without disturbing it for 30 – 40 mins.
6. It will become dense and now U can cut it into pieces and serve it warm. Tastes divinely if served warm.
