VISAKHAPATNAM, February 6, 2012 –‘Abhishekam’ was performed to the idol of Sri Nitai Gauranga on Sunday on the occasion of Nityananda Jayanti by the Hare Krishna Movement at MVP Colony.
Besides lighting lamps, melodious kirtanas were sung.
Sri Nityananda is said to be an incarnation of Lord Balarama (brother of Lord Sri Krishna) in Kaliyuga. Legend has it that he appeared at a village called Ekachakragram in West Bengal. He was one of the associates of Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who spread the ‘bhakti’ cult in India 500 years ago.
President of Hare Krishna Movement Niskinchana Bhakta Dasa said it was only by the mercy of Sri Nityananda and Acharya Srila Prabhupada that programmes such as ‘Akshaya Patra’ and ‘Subhojanam’ were successfully running. A large number of devotees attended the festival.
