Hare Krishna,

PAMHO! AGTSP!

Couple of days back, I was reading Bhagavad-gita As It Is – Original with a friend who had the changed one. I knew about the unauthorized changes, but I found one major change. The change is in the Preface of the book, where the name of the Messrs. Macmillan and Co. is removed.

I thought of writing about this for the benefit of all the readers.

Below is the comparison. The text appears in the first paragraph of the Preface.

Bhagavad Gita As It Is – Original
“But later on, when the demand for Bhagavad-gita As It Is considerably increased, I was requested by many scholars and devotees to present the book in its original form, and Messrs. Macmillan and Co. agreed to publish the complete edition.”

Bhagavad Gita As It Is – Changed
“But later on, when the demand for Bhagavad-gita As It Is considerably increased, I was requested by many scholars and devotees to present the book in its original form.”

The text “and Messrs. Macmillan and Co. agreed to publish the complete edition” is completely wiped off. This deletion definitely proves the intention behind it.

Srila Prabhupada ki Jai.

  1. “Definitely proves” exactly what intention, please?
Can you post a link, please, that presents a definitive expose of this intent or that intent, or this agenda or that agenda, of the present…occupiers (or should we call them serpents?) of the editor’s offices at BBT?

Thanks for being a little clear in the matter of discussing Prabhupada’s books As They Are.

  2. Vaidyanath das says:

Prabhupada was expert to socialize, to get all kind of people involved, make them aware of Lord Caitanya’s Sankirtan movement. Writing letters to famous people, having innumerable scholars writing comments in favor of his books. Many influential people invited by Prabhupada came forward in support of having a world wide Sankirtan movement.

When Prabhupada even highlights this in the preface of Bhagavad-gita that a prominent US publishing house, Macmillan and Co., is in favor of printing the complete edition of Bhagavad-gita, “Messrs. Macmillan and Co. agreed to publish the complete edition”, it is like another milestone of Western intellectuals approving Prabhupada’s literary works.

It is not at all easy to get a publishing house to print a book. They examine again and again and again before stating, yes, we are going to publish your book. To delete this important highlight in the introduction of Bhagavad-gita, a slap in Prabhupada’s face. Why ask for a link, isnt it common sense?
