Sri Ramananda Raya — Disappearance (Reminder for Thursday, 10 May 2012)

Reminder for Thursday, 10 May 2012

Sri Ramananda Raya

Sri Ramananda Ray was the viceroy of the east and west side of the Godavari River in the empire of Raja Sri Prataparudra. When Mahaprabhu was setting out on his tour of South India, Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya especially requested him to meet Ramananda Raya.

“‘Please do not neglect him, thinking he belongs to a sudra family engaged in material activities. It is my request that You meet him without fail. Ramananda Raya is a fit person to associate with You; no other devotee can compare with him in knowedge of the transcendental mellows.’ [C.c. Madhya 7.63,64] “As previously, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu converted to Vaishnavism many people He met on the road. After some days, the Lord reached the banks of the River Godavari. When He saw the River Godavari, the Lord remembered the River Yamuna, and when He saw the forest on the banks of the river, He remembered Sri Vrndavana-dhama. pamho prabhus agtACBSP,

SRI RAMANANDA RAYA is a most confidential devotee of SRI CAITANYA MAHAPRABHU.

We all beg for the dust coming from the lotus feet of such maha bhagavat devotees of the Lord.

SRILA PRABHUPADA wants us to commemorate the avirbhaba and tirobhava (appearance and disappearance day of great Vaishnavas) to awaken our dormant Krishna consciousness.

At that time Navadvipa was under Muslim government whereas Orissa was under Hindu governance. Maharaja Prataparudra was the Emperor of Orissa, one of his governors, SRI RAMANANDA RAYA.

The King of Orissa, Mahahaja Prataparudra, tried his best to see Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Srila Nityananda Prabhu and the other devotees informed the Lord about the King’s desire, but Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu would not agree to see him.

While residing in Navadvipa Srila Haridas Thakura was often punished by the Muslims who considered him as renegade Muslim because Srila Haridas Thakur adopted Gaudiya-Vaishnavism and joined Lord Caitanya’s Sankirtan movement.

This did not happen while residing in Jagannatha Puri. Although here the Hindus would not allow Srila Haridas Thakura to enter Lord Jagannatha’s temple.

However, not far from Haridasa Thakura’s secluded hermitage lived Lord Caitanya and His followers, who loudly chanted the maha-mantra, proclaiming the glories of Krishna.

    Thank you for your sat-sanga,

    SRI RAMANANDA RAYA ki jai,

    SRILA PRABHUPADA ki jai
