Dr Satya Prasad briefing the media.

The cow is considered the mother of the universe. For, it is useful in agriculture, transportation, food, medicine, sports, industry, religious functions, emotional stability and the economy as a whole. After mother’s milk, it is only cow’s milk that gives energy and full protection. Desi cow’s milk is being hailed as wholesome food. Cow’s milk is deemed a complete diet.

From time immemorial, cow has had a special place in Indian society. Desi cow milk is like ‘amruthm’ (nectar), because it has amino acids that make its protein easily digestible and it is good for kidney. It is a rich source of Vitamins like B2, B3 and A, which help in increasing immunity.

Cow’s milk helps in reducing acidity, a common problem today and reduces chances of peptic ulcer as well as colon, breast and skin cancers. Desi cow milk helps reduce the formation of serum cholesterol and is one of the best natural anti-oxidants.

To highlight the importance of the desi cow milk and to promote its use, Dr BRKR Government Ayurvedic College and Charaka Dairy is organising a programme titled ‘Desi Cow Utsav’ at Dr BRKR Government Ayurvedic College & Hospital.

Dr N Satya Prasad, principal, said on Saturday that the event would be held from March 28th to 30th at People’s Plaza on the Necklace Road. It will be formally inaugurated by Dr K P Srivasuki, IFS, CEO, AP Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Board.

Dr Satya Prasad stated that it would be a big ‘mela’ along with an exhibition. Workshops and seminars would be conducted by Ayurvedic doctors. The utsav will showcase several different breeds of cow. The harsh reality is that out of many indigenous breeds of cows only 29 breeds exist now. The influx of non-indigenous cow breeds and lack encouragement for the commercial production of desi cow milk are the main reasons for the current sorry state of affairs.

Indigenous cows, brought from across India, would be showcased at the event. About 10,000 people are expected to visit the Desi Cow Utsav. There is no entry fee and it will be open to the public from 9.30 am to 9.00 pm.
