July 29 2012, USA — Yes…that much is true. I am not sure how much time Paul & George worked on the engineering, but we spent two evenings after the Beatles sessions from about six to eleven. The first session was the Hare Krishna Single and it took us 34 takes to finally ‘get-it’.
I don’t know who they are referring to when they say an ‘inseparable threesome?’ I was the devotee chosen to be at Apple every day and hang out and talk to Rock Stars about Krsna. I would debate Derek Taylor in the Press Office with many people sitting around listening.
The afternoon of the recording of the ‘B’ side was the same day that the Beatles took the cover shot for the Abbey Road Album. George sent Terry Dolan to Apple to bring me over, and I arrived right after the shoot and spent the whole afternoon alone in Abbey Road with the Beatles.
This was after George had given me his Tablas at his house and had me come to Apple and overdub the whole 3 hr tape that we recorded at his house with Billy Preston. Shyam and Gurudas were so jealous of my relationship with George that they both left any mention of the English devotees out of their memoirs, saying it was the three of them with the Beatles the whole time…look it up.
Both Shyam & Gurudas, when there were as many English devotees in Abbey Road as Americans. The Beatles never offered to rent a building for a Temple. Apple did rent the Brahmacharies an apartment for a few months and the Grihasta’s lived with some Indians until we all moved out to Tittenhurst.
