With the demise of godmen and cult leaders such as Satya Sai Baba, David Koresh, Bhagavan Sri Rajneesh and Jim Jones, the writing is on the wall for cults everywhere. Whether it be Scientology, Amway, Islam, The Moonies, The Loonies or The Hare Krishnas (ISKCON), they’re all starting to feel the heat of discontent.
CNN In India (IBN) recently ran a TV and online coverage (click here) about the deteriorating situation with the ISKCON cult which is currently sharply in the spotlight for the serious transgressions of their gaggle of godmen, all coming in “disciplic succession”. People are becoming very wary.
Actually this is good news. It’s a cleansing. We all have an innate capability of communing with the Supreme Being directly; we don’t need a godman, a cult leader, or indeed a cult machine as our “transparent via medium”. We are all Children of God (no, not the cult). And we all have the birthright to capitulate with the Supreme. The intervention of god men and their various dogmas and agendas is invariably the cause of our exigency, not the cure.
Gaurahari das: I can understand many here are reacting to the atrocities caused in ISKCON especially after Srila Prabhupada departed. I was a ISKCON bramachari for 5 years and finally left in 1986. It took many years to get a handle on the whole trip and that is a long story in itself. In essence I will say this. I got my balance now. I know what went wrong in my own approach of something that has both nectar and poison around it.
I feel blessed to understand now the essence of a lot of Bhakti yoga principals. Here is one. ISKCON Gurus after Srila Prabhupada had material motives and speculated on the true philosophical point here that works in all disciplic lines even the Bible. Whats new we are all conditioned souls arel in the shower that includes the ISKCON Gurus who may have approached God for material purpose and not yet purely.
Some are learning realizing their own shortcommings like Hansaduta das. I have enough personal experience talking to the desciples of some of these Gurus to know results of worshiping them are all over the board. Some have felt that they have or are still helping them progress in their Krishna conciouness some say they have been hindered or brainwashed and there have been other Gurus who have been publicly exposed and humilated for some very bad behavior.
I believe the more conclusive principal and the reason God sends a genuine representative is that by their speaking( when here) , Sastra verses, poetry and songs glorifying God or their beloved worshipable form of the Lord, one is connected and catches the true pure transcendental scent of God which is hard to do directly because of a contaminated heart being here in the modes of nature.
The good news is this eventually by submissive favorable association through hearing from and service to the pure devotee all that is troublesome to the heart is purified and this same pure bhakti that the genuine Guru has awakens in a disciples heart. Now motivated ISKCON Gurus were not pure hearted enough to understand much less perpetuate this Eternal Truth in a proper way.
In error they generally claim that even in the Gurus less than God-Realized position and personal presence they still can connect us or try to give the impression that they God-Realized themselves and worthy to give the shelter of the pure spiritual potency. This is meaning of false prophet or false Acarya as they are not yet the abode of pure loving ecstatic devotion which imparts automatically pure divine knowledge and many other spiritual gifts instrumental to liberating conditioned souls like ourselves.
The better more ideal pure hearted example to live by after the genuine authorized Servitor Godhead or God man departs is to continue to propigate their eternal teachings, books,poetry,glories and pastimes and not jump in and imatate them which has been the main problem and caused many sincere seekers to turn away from the most intelligent pure devotional philosopical conclusions rare to be found in such detail anywhere except in vaishnava philosopy.
In addition who else propagates the pastimes of the most rare Avatar, Lord Caitanya in this world? Very few spiritual groups even know about the unmatched glories of Lord Caitanya. So everyone is gradually learning some taking harder roads to learning than others.
It is the fruit of this devotional communion of the rare unalloyed devotee with God in the form of their cooling presence, speech, books and songs that we become inspired to cultivate our relationship with God as they have. We can go deep into this but don’t think its appropriate here but in essence will say the following.
In St. John’s New Testiment book expressed that Jesus gave his followers the power to become the sons(pure devotional) of God. Rupa goswami in his play admitted that his poetic verses glorifying Radha and Krishna carries the scent of Krishna and makes it manifest to those who hear the play.
That’s the real role that those who are God realized souls play as being saviors in this way. Whether they are here physically present or departed it is they who are recognized and sustained by the eternal spiritual potency of God and those who sincerely submissively take appreciative shelter of their words and teachings are also sustained and inspired by the Spiritual Potency as adopted sons of God.
If you noticed real devotional scriptures, songs and poetry are composed by devotees who have the quality of pure love for God and this is for the purpose of attracting souls to gain the experience and reality of the transcendental presence of God
