Prabhupadanugas in Montreal’s La presse

RADHA DAMODARA TEMPLE, Mar 08, MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA — The new generation of initiated disciples of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada have been mentioned in Saturday’s edition of La presse, one of the biggest daily newspapers in Montreal. Reporter Katia Gagnon writes about their performance of Harinama Sankirtan in the local subway station and mentions their weekly feasts in the Sri Sri Radha Damodara temple.

What is significant is that the article informs that there has been a perversion of the movement and the devotees are trying to revive the spirit of the original Hare Krsna movement. A translation of the article follows:

“The melody is enchanting and it resonates in a long tunnel which goes through the Snowdon metro. Guitar, hand-cymbals, drums unite and accelerate gradually like a heart that is under pressure. When it achieves its culminative point it abruptly stops. Buruji das and Harikhata dasa just finished reciting a mantra which purifies the souls of the passersby in metro. Along the long cement walls, Buruji and Harikhata laid out their mattress of million of rays of colours. They set out their books: many examples of the Bhagavad-gita, the sacred book of the Hindus. “We are chanting the name of God. This vibration is not human, but spiritual. It cleanses the heart of the people from impure thoughts like anger and vanity” explains Buruji.

The two monks are young, not even 30 years old. Buruji is white, Harikhata is a mulatto. They are both dressed in traditional orange and white. They wear the traditional signs of the Krishnas traced yellow on the forehead and their noses. They have shaved heads and a powerful voices.

Buruji came to Quebec in 2002 with his parents from his native Slovakia. He adhered to the Hare Krishna movement at the age of 21.When reading the works of the master Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, he saw the light. But careful, not any kind of light. He saw the light of the original Hare Krishna. Although you might ignore it, but certain members throughout the years ” have perverted the movement” indicates Buruji.

“We want to revive the spirit of the original movement.” The adepts who recruit on the internet organize the vegetarian feasts and lectures on the Bhagavad-gita every week.

The two young monks began to chant once again. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare. People passing are listening, distracted. Some people throw a coin. They ignore the fact that by hearing this melody in the gray tunnel of Snowdon metro, they perhaps can be liberated from the dark consequences of their karma.
