Feb 24 2013, ISKCON Bangalore Public Relations — Grooving, jumping, dancing and shaking a leg to the tap of drum-beats! Well! Could you have asked for an easier and ‘cool’ form of meditation!? Yes! This was what the 1200 youth that gathered in the ‘Open Air Theatre’ of ISKCON Bangalore temple on ‘Hare Krishna Hill’ performed  through the evening of Feb 24,2013. And what was the occasion!?

Well, can you imagine 1200 young guys gathered for a Vedic ceremony!??? Yes! This was ‘VEDIC SCIENCE FEST-2013’, organized by MMC! What is MMC? It is the ISKCON Bangalore’s youth program’s initiative called ‘Mantra Meditation Circle’. Every day over 1000 youngsters of 25 engineering colleges gather in their own college hostels, and also learn about the ever-applicable principles of Bhagavad-Gita. All those MMC’ians who had undergone a one year ‘Vedic Thinker Course’ were awarded as ‘Vedic Thinkers of 2013’ on this day of a mega VEDIC SCIENCE FEST! To celebrate their success the MMC’ians danced away to the mystical tunes of ‘MANTROLOGY’ band!

There were two teams performing ‘Hare Krishna Mantra’ in multi-genres, one from the MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology and other from New Horizon Engineering College. As the temple came to close, the chanters grooved with ‘Hare Krishna’ on their lips!

There were more than 15 events in Vedic Science Fest, happening on different venues simultaneously throughout the day. Just like any other inter-collegiate cultural fest. But this fest was unique in that it was all based on spirituality as in Bhagavad-Gita. The day started with a formal inauguration chaired by Vice-President of ISKCON Bangalore and Vice-Chairman of Akshaya Patra Foundation, Sriman Chanchalapati Dasa. Speaking on the occasion he said Vedic science are relevant even in today’s time.  Vedas means knowledge and does not mean religious text for certain group of people. Students contribute lot in society building hence there is need for them to follow the right path”.

The Chief Guest for the event Dr. NR Shetty, Former Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University and Director of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of technology inaugurating the function said “ISKCON   has put in lot of effort to conduct this fest.  I feel happy to see thousand young engineers take part in such fests.  More events like this should be taken up.

Guests of Honor such as Dhanraj Swamiji, Correspondent of Amrita School of Engineering and Principals of various colleges were also present to grace the occasion. But the most prominent of all the personalities in the event was the Vedic Science Ambassador of India, Srila Prabhupada. He was extremely pleased when the MMC’ians led the show with their shouts of ‘Haribol!’ The guys of ‘Mantra Meditation Circle’ were clearly enjoying themselves in this new form of mantra meditation, and waiting for the events to begin to display all their God gifted talents in service of Him.

The events kicked off, as the MMC’ians displayed 3D models depicting various analogies to explain the philosophy of Krishna Consciousness as explained by Srila Prabhupada; some of the guys were at the puzzle corner to solve ‘Vedic Puzzle’, some of them were in essay or speech, and the main event of ‘Vedic Science Quiz!’

The event concluded with the valedictory function.   Prof. Mallepuram G Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor – Karnataka Sanskrit University, was the Chief Guest.

Dr. Vunugopal K R, Principal – University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, Dr. B S Satyanarayan, Principal – RV College of Engineering, Dr. Mallikarjun Babu, Principal – BMS College of Engineering, Dr. Mrtyunjay V Latte, Principal – JSS Academy of Technical Education were also present .
