Kurma dasa: Euro GBC Admits To Corruption and Bogus Gurus

Kurma Prabhu, Apr 27 2009, Australia — Corruption and the basis for guru-disciple relationships has been admitted to and acted upon by the European GBC. They have, in fact, documented what we have been saying all along. Of course, we devotees who have spoken up against bogus Gurus and the shadow ISKCON have been branded as demons and offenders, etc., so it is pretty amazing to see one of the biggest GBC’s in the world finally admitting to what has been occurring all along within ISKCON.

It also appears that the European GBC are diverting back to the Zonal Acarya system. So what does this mean for the rest of the World?

Here in Australia we have devotees out collecting money on the streets, all day, everyday, for the up-keep and maintenance of gurus such as Devamrita Swami and his own personal programs, which have been cleverly intertwined within ISKCON, but that are not ISKCON owned. In Australia we have a very large Indian community, who are very generous with their donations and support of the ISKCON Temples here. The gurus are well aware of this; they know that Australia is “ripe for the picking”, so to speak.

The gurus that frequent this part of the world know well that their lifestyle of wealth and power can continue very easily here in Australia, due to the generosity of the very large Hindu community. Of course, many of us have all along been saying that this needs to stop and that all donations and collections should go to Srila Prabhupada’s programs only.

Bogus Gurus traveling to different parts of the world and milking funds for their own personal wealth and for programs that they invent is a real problem, a worldwide problem. And here we see the European GBC’s admitting to it and also dealing with it. Surely this resolution must filter down to countries such as Australia and elsewhere around the globe.

“Whereas, in the past, power money and followers has been instrumental in the downfall of many of our gurus; and because now we have to struggle to rescue our reputation in the face of considerable criticism, …Whereas there is now a lot more competition from other spiritual organizations….”
(208/11-107 Initiation Procedures, Euro GBC, 7/10/2008)

“There will be no more cross-border initiations….it is hereby resolved that in general ISKCON gurus may no longer make requests for funds from disciples or other devotees for projects or personal maintenance…”
