Should the ISKCON GBC be forgiven?

Pratyatosa Dasa (ACBSP) says:

In the age of Satya, your four legs were established by the four principles of austerity, cleanliness, mercy and truthfulness. But it appears that three of your legs are broken due to rampant irreligion in the form of pride, lust for women, and intoxication. You are now standing on one leg only, which is your truthfulness, and you are somehow or other hobbling along. But quarrel personified [Kali], flourishing by deceit, is also trying to destroy that leg.

(Srimad Bhagavatam 1.17.24-25)

The last leg of Dharma, the sacred bull of religiosity, in this fallen age of Kali-yuga, is truthfulness, but the ISKCON GBC is not even truthful! They will not admit that Srila Prabhupada’s July 9, 1977 letter clearly prescribes “ritvik henceforward” for all future initiations within ISKCON. After thinking about it for several months, Prabhupada made this all-important management decision, not out of ego, but out of mercy. He did it in order to prevent the factionalization of ISKCON, which is exactly what has happened because of the GBC’s fateful decision, in early 1978, to ignore this directive.

But the GBC’s ignoring a directive from Srila Prabhupada is not unprecedented. They also ignored his directive to have the temple presidents vote devotees on and off of the GBC body (the DOM — Srila Prabhupada’s 1970 Direction of Management), but Prabhupada never condemned them for this.

But they are condemned for their forcing ISKCON, ever since the 1978 GBC meetings in Mayapur, India, to live a lie: claiming that the July 9th letter doesn’t mean what it clearly says: “ritvik henceforward.” For their own sake, and for the sake of Srila Prabhupada’s beloved ISKCON, we should at least get them to “come clean,” and admit that Hansadutta Prabhu is correct in his insightful letter of September 16, 1998:

http://pratyatosa.com/?P=3m

Ignoring the July 9th letter is par for the course for a bunch of overly-ambitious neophytes who became envious of Srila Prabhupada because of too much personal association. (“Familiarity breeds contempt.”) But, in my humble opinion, we should forgive them for this on condition that they at least admit that Hansadutta is correct in his original assessment of the July 9th letter.

Without truthfulness, there is no basis for harmony, understanding or cooperation!

If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.

(Mark Twain)

Truthfulness is the main element of character.

(Brian Tracy)

All relations of men with each other, the whole life of the community, depend on faithfulness to truth.

(Romano Guardini)

Lies are shackles: they complicate life, requiring ever more lies in their wake. Every lie brings with it the very heavy burden of “keeping the story straight” forever into the future. The truth, on the other hand, may not be easy to bear, or easy to tell, but it’s always simple. You just tell it like it is.

(Mike Aquilina)

There is no true peace without truth!

(Pope Francis)

There is nothing more sinful than untruthfulness. Because of this, mother earth once said, “I can bear any heavy thing except a person who is a liar.”

(Srimad Bhagavatam 8.20.4)

  1. Harinamananda Das says:

Prabhupada is giving the example of sinful reactions being in a seed stage before becoming fructified. “When the seeds (bija) of sinful reactions have not yet fructified, the reactions are called aprarabdha. These seeds of sinful action are unseen….” (SB 6.1.15)

Present GBC never made an admission of having done anything wrong. They might be aware of many devotees endured rack and ruin because of so many failing “gurus” and — rigorous GBC policy. However, they firmly believe that this is exactly what Prabhupada wanted and if there is any inconvenience, we have to tolerate – you can’t make coconut juice without breaking a coconut…

Therefore, no apology, no inviting back, no reconciliation. If you tell them present ISKCON is built upon the lives of so many sacrificed devotees (what I once put forth) and if they feel good about that, you’ll see an evil grin and thats it.

In other words, they seriously believe that they have the right – like in a war – to sacrifice soldiers in order to gain victory at another’s expense. Agreed, so far they experienced quite some losses in their own ranks.

What comes to mind when dealing with ISKCON’s GBC, anyone who does not want to hear must feel. After all those years any type of apology can’t be taken seriously anymore. GBC policy is forward escape without looking back. If this policy will come out successful or bad karma will put a foot in the door – only Krishna knows.

Hopefully one day ISKCON becomes purified from within. Thats what present ISKCONites also believe, we are on the right track to become pure devotees. When this happens we are totally happy, but still, all those Prabhupadanugas remain banned. Any suggestions?

    pamho agtACBSP,

even if Lord Caitanya’s Sankirtan movement is forgiving them they will be punished by Dharmaraja.

So those who are GBC’s, they should be very, very careful to administer the business of ISKCON. Otherwise they will be punished. As the post is very great, similarly, the punishment is also very great. That is the difficulty. (Geneva, June 4, 1974)

Therefore no mercy at all for all these wretches who betrayed Srila Prabhupada by going against his decision not to appoint any diksa-gurus.

Anyway, they are already smashed because the way they are managing Iskcon like a bodily designation Hindu temple does not help them to come to the eternal life.

Cheating is completely different from weakness, we saw so many rascals leaving with temple laxmi and girl-friend so there should have been a GBC resolution to stop this once and for all. Of course the only way to stop conditioned souls from cheating is to not let them sit on the vyasasana.

So last day we had been discussing that difference between the conditioned soul and liberated soul is that a conditioned soul is imperfect in four ways. A conditioned soul is sure to commit mistake, a conditioned soul is in illusion, a conditioned soul has the tendency for cheating others, and a conditioned soul has got his senses imperfect, imperfect senses. Therefore knowledge should be taken from a liberated soul.(New York, March 7, 1966)

Mahesh: this is going to be a VERY VERY VERY interesting chapter we are all going to see. These bogus GBC folks thought they can poison Srila Prabhupada take-over his temples, properties,BBT, his disciples, change his books, throw out devotees. So now they are all in their 60’s . So HOW many more years to retain the ill-gotten gains say 5 years more? say 10 years THEN another body. WHAT body they will accept is going to be under the dictates of their KARMA. AS you sow so shall you REAP. It is ALL about CONSCIOUSNESS. What body YOU develop is what CONSCIOUSNESS you have created in this life: If ones life is demoniac then he is FORCED TO ENTER LOWER forms of life of animals, lizards, snakes, worm in stool. And—- there is NO ESCAPE. The ONLY way out is to GIVE BACK EVERYTHING TO SRILA PRABHUPADA NOW – BEFORE THEIR TIME IS UP this way there is ATLEAST SOME LESSER degree of punishment. Otherwise they have had it! They are FINNISHED! Endless cycle of TRANSMIGRATION in lower species of life —enjoy! MANY MANY MANY creations will come and go – NO RELEASE FROM THIS JAIL!

Just like father gives some capital to the son: “You do some business.” Now, you lose the money or increase it hundred times; that depends on you. Similarly, Krsna has given us. We wanted to enjoy this material world, and Krsna has given us. The first beginning body is Brahma, very exalted body. But on account of our abominable activities, from Brahma, we come down to become the worm of stool. This is called karma, ksetra.
There are eight million four hundred thousand species of life, and according to our work, we get some body, some type of body. And if we work in the modes of goodness, then we get still better body in higher planetary system, long duration of life, better standard of living condition, more and more, thousand times, thousand times. Whatever comforts and facilities we have got here on this planet, if we work in the modes of goodness, then we get more and more facilities.
Similarly, if we work just like animals, then we are degraded more and more downwards. Tala, Atala, Talatala, Patala, like that. There are planetary systems, and similarly, there are higher planetary system. You can see every day. Each and every star means they are different planetary system. So according to your work, you are promoted or degraded or you keep here.

    urdhvam gacchanti sattva-stha
    madhye tisthanti rajasah
    jaghanya-guna-vrtti-stha
    adho gacchanti tamasah

It is up to you. In another place, Krsna says,

    yanti deva-vrata devan
    pitrn yanti pitr-vratah
    bhutani yanti bhutejya
    yanti mad-yajino ‘pi mam

The same thing. If you desire, you can promote yourself to the higher–that is within the material world–higher planetary system for better comfort of life, better, long duration of life. That you can go. Yanti deva-vrata devan.
Just like if you come to Europe… At least… Of course, we are different men. We are preaching. But other Indians, they come, they come here by dressing like European, European coat, pant. So just we have to arrange for going to another country, passport, visa and dress and so many things. Similarly, if you want to go to the planets of the demigods, you have to prepare yourself. Yanti deva-vrata devan. Deva-vratah, they can go. Similarly, pitr-vratah, they can go Pitrloka. There are other planets. And bhutejyah, if you want to remain here, then you become nationalist and this, that, so many…
“And if you like, you can go to Me also.” Mad-yajino ‘pi yanti mam. Those who are trying to promote themselves in Krsna consciousness, Krsna says mad-yajinah, “Those who are worshiping Me, they come to Me.” So now it is your choice. This body is given to you. Now you make your choice whether you want to have, in this material world, better facilities, better duration of life, or if you want to degrade yourself to the animal life, or if you want to go to Krsnaloka, everything, whatever you want, you can get. And this is the chance, this human form of body. You make your choice. Therefore Krsna says, idam sariram kaunteya ksetram iti abhidhiyate. It is just like the land of cultivation. Now you cultivate.

    Bg Introduction
Prakrti itself is constituted by three qualities: the mode of goodness, the mode of passion and the mode of ignorance. Above these modes there is eternal time, and by a combination of these modes of nature and under the control and purview of eternal time there are activities which are called karma. These activities are being carried out from time immemorial, and we are suffering or enjoying the fruits of our activities. For instance, suppose I am a businessman and have worked very hard with intelligence and have amassed a great bank balance. Then I am an enjoyer. But then say I have lost all my money in business; then I am a sufferer. Similarly, in every field of life we enjoy the results of our work, or we suffer the results. This is called karma.

Isvara (the Supreme Lord), jiva (the living entity), prakrti (nature), eternal time and karma (activity) are all explained in the Bhagavad-gita. Out of these five, the Lord, the living entities, material nature and time are eternal. The manifestation of prakrti may be temporary, but it is not false. Some philosophers say that the manifestation of material nature is false, but according to the philosophy of Bhagavad-gita or according to the philosophy of the Vaisnavas, this is not so. The manifestation of the world is not accepted as false; it is accepted as real, but temporary. It is likened unto a cloud which moves across the sky, or the coming of the rainy season which nourishes grains. As soon as the rainy season is over and as soon as the cloud goes away, all the crops which were nourished by the rain dry up. Similarly, this material manifestation takes place at a certain interval, stays for a while and then disappears. Such are the workings of prakrti. But this cycle is working eternally. Therefore prakrti is eternal; it is not false. The Lord refers to this as “My prakrti.” This material nature is the separated energy of the Supreme Lord, and similarly the living entities are also the energy of the Supreme Lord, but they are not separated. They are eternally related. So the Lord, the living entity, material nature and time are all interrelated and are all eternal. However, the other item, karma, is not eternal. The effects of karma may be very old indeed. We are suffering or enjoying the results of our activities from time immemorial, but we can change the results of our karma, or our activity, and this change depends on the perfection of our knowledge. We are engaged in various activities. Undoubtedly we do not know what sort of activities we should adopt to gain relief from the actions and reactions of all these activities, but this is also explained in the Bhagavad-gita.

Bg 15.8 P The Yoga of the Supreme Person
Here the living entity is described as isvara, the controller of his own body. If he likes, he can change his body to a higher grade, and if he likes he can move to a lower class. Minute independence is there. The change his body undergoes depends upon him. At the time of death, the consciousness he has created will carry him on to the next type of body. If he has made his consciousness like that of a cat or dog, he is sure to change to a cat’s or dog’s body. And, if he has fixed his consciousness on godly consciousness, he will be transferred to Krsnaloka in the spiritual world and will associate with Krsna. It is a false claim that after the annihilation of this body everything is finished. The individual soul is transmigrating from one body to another, and his present body and present activities are the background of his next body. One gets a different body according to karma, and he has to quit this body in due course. It is stated here that the subtle body, which carries the conception of the next body, develops another body in the next life. This process of transmigrating from one body to another and struggling while in the body is called karsati or struggle for existence.

Note:There is NO WAY these bogus GBC and their bogus gurus and their accomplices are getting away from stealing from PURE BRAHMANA VAISNAVA Srila Prabhupada: “A person who takes away property which has either been awarded to a brahmana or given away by him is condemned to live for at least 60,000 years as miserably as an insect in stool.”

KB 64 The Story of King Nrga
At this time, Lord Krsna was present among His relatives who were members of the ksatriya class. To teach them through the exemplary character of King Nrga, He said: “Even though a ksatriya king may be as powerful as fire, it is not possible for him to usurp the property of a brahmana and utilize it for his own purpose. If this is so, how can ordinary kings, who falsely think of themselves the most powerful beings within the material world, usurp a brahmana’s property? I do not think that taking poison is as dangerous as taking a brahmana’s property. For ordinary poison there is treatment–one can be relieved from its effects; but if one drinks the poison of taking a brahmana’s property, there is no remedy for the mistake. The perfect example was King Nrga. He was very powerful and very pious, but due to the small mistake of unknowingly usurping a brahmana’s cow, he was condemned to the abominable life of a lizard. Ordinary poison affects only those who drink it, and ordinary fire can be extinguished simply by pouring water on it; but the arani fire ignited by the spiritual potency of a brahmana can burn to ashes the whole family of a person who provokes such a brahmana.” (Formerly, the brahmanas used to ignite the fire of sacrifice not with matches or any other external fire but with their powerful mantras, called arani.) “If someone even touches a brahmana’s property, he is ruined for three generations. However, if a brahmana’s property is forcibly taken away, the taker’s family for ten generations before him and for ten generations after him will be subject to ruination. On the other hand, if someone becomes a Vaisnava or devotee of the Lord, ten generations of his family before his birth and ten generations after will become liberated.”
Lord Krsna continued: “If some foolish king who is puffed up by his wealth, prestige and power wants to usurp a brahmana’s property, it should be understood that such a king is clearing his path to hell; he does not know how much he has to suffer for such unwise action. If someone takes away the property of a very liberal brahmana who is encumbered by a large dependent family, then such a usurper is put into the hell known as Kumbhipaka; not only is he put into this hell, but his family members also have to accept such a miserable condition of life. A person who takes away property which has either been awarded to a brahmana or given away by him is condemned to live for at least 60,000 years as miserably as an insect in stool. Therefore I instruct you, all My boys and relatives present here, do not, even by mistake, take the possession of a brahmana and thereby pollute your whole family. If someone even wishes to possess such property, let alone attempts to take it away by force, the duration of his life will be reduced. He will be defeated by his enemies, and after being bereft of his royal position, when he gives up his body he will become a serpent. A serpant gives trouble to all other living entities. My dear boys and relatives, I therefore advise you that even if a brahmana becomes angry with you and calls you by ill names or cuts you, still you should not retaliate. On the contrary, you should smile, tolerate him and offer your respects to the brahmana. You know very well that even I Myself offer My obeisances to the brahmanas with great respect three times daily. You should therefore follow My instruction and example. I shall not forgive anyone who does not follow them, and I shall punish him. You should learn from the example of King Nrga that even if someone unknowingly usurps the property of a brahmana, he is put into a miserable condition of life.”

Note: EVERY instance is different HOW and WHEN Krsna chooses to punish the party who have insulted His PURE devotee. BUT rest assured they will NOT get away:
SB 3.1.43 P Questions by Vidura
As declared in Bhagavad-gita, the Lord appears in the mortal world to execute His much-needed mission of killing the miscreants and giving protection to the suffering faithful. In spite of that mission, Lord Krsna tolerated the insult to Draupadi by the Kurus and the injustices perpetrated against the Pandavas, as well as insults to Himself. The question may be raised, “Why did He tolerate such injustices and insults in His presence? Why did He not chastise the Kurus immediately?” When Draupadi was insulted in the assembly by the Kurus by their attempt to see her naked in the presence of all, the Lord protected Draupadi by supplying an unlimited length of clothing. But He did not chastise the insulting party immediately. This silence of the Lord did not mean, however, that He excused the offenses of the Kurus. There were many other kings on earth who had become very proud of three kinds of possessions–wealth, education and followers–and they were constantly agitating the earth by movements of military strength. The Lord was just waiting to get them together on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra and kill them all at one time, just to make a short-cut in His killing mission.
