Very interesting insider information about George Harrison. Thank you very much, Mother Nori Prabhu, for sharing it with us.

Wow! I had no idea that George Harrison went to the home of my old friend, Baradraja Prabhu, for dinner. I knew Baradraja very well. Both of us (and his wife) used to live at ISKCON New York (Brooklyn) in 1971-72 when I started ISKCON’s first cassette subscription service (which I later named the Bhaktivedanta Tape Ministry).

Please tell us more about what his thoughts were on the Hare Krishnas.

BTW, check out the following links on Baradraja’s and his son’s Hollywood success stories:

Bhakta Wakta,

That’s the same stuff people said about ISKCON World Review when it started, especially the editors at BTG. They said our newspaper was not authorized, but eventually they accepted it. They even asked us for news items to use in their magazine. Anyways, in the common law, freedom of press belongs to he who has a press.

Like George Harrison said he would rather be counted with the group of devotees than the group of other people in Chant and be happy, or something like that.

In about 1979, George Harrison came over to the L.A. temple for dinner at Rukmini and Bardraja’s house and they introduced him to Ramesvara. On the way back, George said to Mukunda: “Now everybody thinks they’re a guru,” and he meant it in the most cynical way possible. We published Chant and Be Happy, and we drew George’s interview from six hours of taped interviews between Mukunda and George. George okay’ed the final version, but we left a lot out. For example, in one of the tapes I transcribed, Mukunda asked him who he thinks of when he thinks of a guru, and he said Maharishi (TM guru). That was the type of thing we left out. So that book is not the definitive say so on what George thought about ISKCON. He was saddened like the rest of us to witness the new gurus tarnish Srila Prabhupada’s legacy.

  1. “Now everybody thinks they’re a guru.”

    George Harrison ki jaya!

  2. Some more interesting insider information about Bhakta George was posted just now on <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/istagosthi/2HNaILkbK-k>, including a picture! Please check it out. 🙂

  3. Some more “Inside Scoop” has been posted on <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/istagosthi/2HNaILkbK-k>. Please have a transcendental look-see.

  4. Why is it that when I Google “Some Inside Scoop on George Harrison” (including the quotes), it can find the Google Groups web page on the subject, but not this web page?

  5. Acchedya das says:

when I am googling what you say google says http://www.prabhupadanugas.eu/news/?p=38628
However when I enter at google “Sankaracarya-sampradaya” (including the quotes, without diacritics) google cannot find causelessmercy.com where this is mentioned at 4 places?

  6. All that I get for “Some Inside Scoop on George Harrison” is 2 Google Group hits.

When I did the following Google search:

    “Sankaracarya-sampradaya” site:causelessmercy.com

    …it found:

    http://causelessmercy.com/?P=Adi7.9

But it’s true that Google does not give Causelessmercy.com a very high priority. If someone could kindly explain to me why this is, in language that I can understand, I would appreciate it very much.

  7. Acchedya das says:

This means google is capricious- when I entered “Sankaracarya-sampradaya” google didnt find causelessmercy.com. Whereas when I entered “Some Inside Scoop on George Harrison” it said http://www.prabhupadanugas.eu/news/?p=38628
Not sure how this can happen? Might be that google runs from many different servers who are facing different type of complexity factor to get search result?

  8. Hare Rama Dear Pratyatosa Prabhu,
please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Google uses algorithms that determine the page rankings.
This is a whole field of employmenz since my companies try to manipulate it in order to get a high page ranking.
Bhakta David Lugan might know sometime about it, since the he did some work for former “Dasanudasa Dasa” on that. But since he has joined the Rocana/ Vedic Way no Guru program he doesn’t reply to any e-mails from Ritviks/Prabhupadanugas.

    Greetings

Wow! I had no idea! If he’s successful, he could buy ISKCON! 🙂

A glass can be seen as either half full or half empty. In this case we have a devotee who has performed amazing service to Srila Prabhupada. By traveling to England, helping to open the English yata, befriending George Harrison, etc., Shyamasundara das is responsible for so many souls coming to Krishna consciousness. (Just think of how many devotees were convinced by George’s involvement with the movement, plus all the devotees who joined at the Manor, Bury Place and Soho temples over the years.)

As revealed by Bhajahari das in the Prabhupada Memories video series, Bhajahari das and Revatinandana (then Swami) once approached Srila Prabhupada and related to him how Shyamasundar (then GBC of U.K.) was not attending the morning program among other things. Prabhupada became furious and ordered Revatinandana to instruct Bhajahari to leave the room. Bhajahari said that Prabhupada would not even look at him or speak with him further, while stating aloud that “one should not criticize a superior Vaisnava.”

Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita: “In this endeavor there is no loss or diminution and a little advancement on this path can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear.”

On the other hand, some have pointed out that such endeavors (i.e. searching for lost treasure) are a material pursuit and not within the realm of pure devotional service. I’m interested to hear how you see it.

It’s not so much what you do to make money. It’s whether or not you engage that money in Krishna’s service. Gopal Krishna Dasa (now Swami), used to work for Pepsi Cola, the maker of an addicting intoxicant. But Srila Prabhupada was very pleased with him because he was giving 50% of his income to ISKCON NY (Brooklyn).

  13. Thank you. I wonder how many devotees are actually giving 50%.
