Bhaktifest: Unless I missed something, I didn’t hear anyone chanting the Hare Krsna Mahamantra. (I thought that was what Sankirtan was/is all about – chanting the Hare Krsna Mahamantra, and/or including other [bona fide] mantras in glorification of Krsna, and that Bhakti was in direct relation to Krsna.)

From Srila Prabhupada’s May 16,1974 letter to Sri Pannalalji:

“This means the bhakti marga is the only religion. Sa vai pumsam paro dharmo . . . [SB 1.2.6]. Sarva dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja [Bg.18.66]. Our Krsna Consciousness movement is to accept the Supreme Personality of Godhead Krsna as the Supreme Being and act everything for His satisfaction only. We do not accept the principle of as many gods as one can imagine. God is one and He cannot be imagined: He is fact.”

From Krsna in Bhagavad-gita:

BG 7.20, 23
“Those whose minds are distorted by material desires surrender unto demigods and follow the particular rules and regulations of worship according to their own natures. Men of small intelligence worship the demigods, and their fruits are limited and temporary. Those who worship the demigods go to the planets of the demigods, but My devotees ultimately reach My supreme planet.”

Bg 9.23,24
Whatever a man may sacrifice to other gods, O son of Kunti, is really meant for Me alone, but it is offered without true understanding. I am the only enjoyer and the only object of sacrifice.

BG 18.40
There is no being existing, either here or among the demigods in the higher planetary systems, which is freed from the three modes of material nature.

(So why are devotees chanting mantras to the devatas at a Bhaktifest? And on this Bhaktifest advertisement, NO Mahamantra?)

Did I miss something?

I seemed to have missed hearing the “Hare Krsna” Mahamantra being chanted, but I did see the Bhaktifest “king of kings” – Radhanath. Oh yes, he’s a musician himself… And guess what: It was put up by BHAKTIBEAT, (those who beat up Bhakti?)

This is just a ‘Mish-Mash’ of Mayavada and Sahajiya cultists. Where is the Bhakti? Kirtana is not about musicianship it is about PURITY, if there is no purity then it is just poison. Because ISKCON and Gaudiya Math have no purity they cannot reach the mainstream population* (*because they are generally more intelligent) they can only “preach” to “ferals and hippies” who are mainly sense enjoyers, sexual deviants and fruitcakes. All these people can do is to further ‘muddy the water’ of real spiritual understanding with their ‘fancy dress hippy show of spirituality’ how pathetic! and for this they are charging USD$350.00! What a joke! At the ‘Original Woodstock’ most people got in for free and got to see the best musicians in the world!

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada was not good at music (unlike Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur) but because He was a pure Vaisnava He was the most qualified to perform Kirtana. This is the real point. Listening to Sahajiyas and Mayavadis performing “Kirtana” just makes a genuine devotee of Krishna nauseas and want to vomit. ISKCON GBC are themselves just a bunch of tired, burnt-out ‘Old Hippies’ that is why they fit right in with all these ‘freaks and weirdos!’ Three days of that would be enough to turn anyone into a ‘redneck!’

  2. “It is to be understood that when Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu chanted and danced, He did so by the influence of the pleasure potency of the spiritual world. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu never considered the holy name of the Lord to be a material vibration, nor does any pure devotee mistake the chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra to be a material musical manifestation. Lord Caitanya never tried to be the master of the holy name; rather He taught us how to be servants of the holy name. If one chants the holy name of the Lord just to make a show, not knowing the secret of success, he may increase his bile secretion, but he will never attain perfection in chanting the holy name.” (C.C. Adi 7.95-96 purport)
