Sri Caitanya-caritamrta is the principal work on the life and teachings of Sri Krsna Caitanya, the Supreme Personality of Godhead appearing as His own devotee. Sri Krsna Caitanya was the pioneer of a great social and religious movement thatbegan in India about 500 years ago that has directly and indirectlyinfluenced the course of religious and philosophical thinking not only inIndia but throughout the world. These volumes feature the original Bengali text with English equivalents, translation, and elaborate commentary, plus a complete glossary, subject index, and verse index.

This printing is an exact replica of theoriginal books printed in 1974 including the original text and all original color plates.

Many devotees have been asking for the original Caitanya-caritamrta set since it went out of print in the 1990’s.The BBT have replaced it with a new “revised” edition which includes thousands of changes. Most devotees, however, feel more comfortable reading the original books Srila Prabhupada personally published and read himself daily and gave all his classes from.

Srila Prabhupada teaches us that Bhagavad-gita is the introductory text on the science of Krishna consciousness, Srimad-Bhagavatam is the advanced course and Sri Caitanya-caitamrta is the post-graduate study of spiritual life:

So study this Caitanya-caritamrta. Now we have got this English edition, very elaborately described, following the footsteps of our Guru Maharaja, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada. So there is no such edition of Caitanya-caritamrta,very elaborately described. But it can be understood by the advanced student. It can be… And so…

Advanced, you can, anyone, you can become advanced. Advanced means at least one should understand that Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If you simply understand these two words, that Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then you are advanced. It is not very difficult. Everything, all Vedic literature, they are meant for understanding Krsna. Vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyam [Bg.15.15]. So if you simply understand… What is that understanding? That Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead…  if you accept These few words, then you are advanced student, immediately. Take it from me,that simply this conviction, that “Krsna is the Supreme Personality ofGodhead,” then you are advanced student in spiritual life. (from Srila Prabhupada’s class on Cc. Adi 1.1, Mayapur March 25,1975)

  1. Very glad to see this!!

  2. P.S. I just did this post from our page to further promote this http://theharekrishnamovement.org/2015/03/03/sri-caitanya-caritamrta-original-17-volume-set-1974-edition-available-again/

All Glories to Srila Prabhupada’s Original Books!

  3. The english and american language is an extension of imperfect senses ,so is imperfect in itself,
so Srila Prabhupada was using imperfect language to tell about the Perfect and complete.

The Bhagavad Gita As It Is that the Personality of Srila Prabhupada happily preached from, should be available in His temples, otherwise the management are systematically eradicating the Personality of Prabhupada and imposing something other.

And the other “CLASSIC” books also.

    • Amar Puri says:

warren says ; ” The english and american language is an extension of imperfect senses ,so is imperfect in itself, so Srila Prabhupada was using imperfect language to tell about the Perfect and complete. ”

Telling about that which is Perfect and Complete upon its hearing through the right source in the disciplic succession does not make it imperfect in itself even it is heard by the defective senses as the Sun does not get effected by the stool or any other filth what so ever.

However, when it is manipulated and distorted by using the Imperfect senses, the meaning of the perfect and complete can be tainted and presented in adulteration.

That is the mischievousness of the wicked person as per his FREE WILL.

    • Prabhupāda: Yes, it is Sanskrit, but the Vedic mantras are received not by learning Sanskrit, but by hearing from the authorized person. Therefore it is called śruti. It is in Sanskrit because there was no other language. Sanskrit was the only language. So now they’re being translated into English. So it doesn’t matter whether it is in Sanskrit or English, one has to learn it by hearing from the proper person. That is wanted. It is… The Vedic mantras are called śruti, not sanskriti. [laughter]. It is called śruti. Śruti means the first business is hearing. Tad-vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet [MU 1.2.12]. What is the purpose of going to guru? Means to…, guru is the authorized person from hear…, from him hear. So it doesn’t require that one has to learn Sanskrit. We have got so many disciples. It is not that they first of all learned Sanskrit. They heard. It may be in Sanskrit language or in English language. It doesn’t matter. Let him hear the real fact. That is wanted. So although the Vedic mantras are in Sanskrit, the process to understand is to hear. To hear, it may be any language, to hear and understand; then he becomes perfect. It is not the Sanskrit language. It is the hearing which is important. (760629BJ.NV)

In my 1975 edition the following has been missed:

    TEXT
    tri-bhuvana bhari’ uṭhe kīrtanera dhvani
anya vādyādira dhvani kichui nā śuni

This is a link to a 2 page pdf showing this missing text:

Someone who has recently purchased this new printing has informed me that the above text has been inserted in this new printing.

  5. The guy is a bit spaced out, his books have the text in question missing just as the original has.
Sorry, I should have checked more carefully.

However he did bring to light a different interpolation to be found in this reprint,
