Srila Prabhupada - the transparent medium

The Transparent Medium
Posted by Rupanuga das (ACBSP)

The primary test of a devotee’s speech or behavior is whether he/she is being a transparent medium for Srila Prabhupada, i.e., exactly in the disciplic succession. But, buyer beware! It is said that one must know something about gold before purchasing it in the marketplace. Otherwise, it is most certain one will be cheated. Unfortunate is the person who accepts someone as an authority on bhakti-yoga without testing for gold.

To know what that gold is, one has to first study Srila Prabhupada’s books and recordings (he called his books “recorded sound“). However, there is a popular propaganda that, in any case, one must hear from a “living (diksa) guru” for real spiritual benefits or advancement, or that listening to Srila Prabhupada’s recordings or studying his books without hearing from a “living guru” is insufficient. Or that reading his books is not the same as associating with Srila Prabhupada directly. In other words, since Srila Prabhupada is not still living, one must have a living guru. As one of his disciples used to say, “You cannot get to Srila Prabhupada except through me.”

These ideas started appearing in ISKCON just after Srila Prabhupada’s disappearance in 1977. The bonafide agenda for the GBC at that time was to lead the Movement, immersed in bereavement, from its dependence upon both Srila Prabhupada-vapu and vani to a singular dependence upon Srila Prabhupada-vani. This was a lesson Srila Prabhupada had been teaching for years: Prabhupada-vapu is temporary, destined to disappear, but Srila Prabhupada-vani would go on. Srila Prabhupada wrote in his dedication of the Srimad Bhagavatam about Srila Bhaktisiddhanta: “He lives forever by his divine instructions and the follower lives with him.” The same is true of our Srila Prabhupada.

Unfortunately, the eleven rtvik appointees (half the GBC at that time), claimed an exclusive right to be spiritual masters, and immediately began giving second initiation to their Godbrothers and sisters who hadn’t been able to receive it from Srila Prabhupada before he disappeared. So, instead of leading the natural transition from Srila Prabhupada-vapu to Srila Prabhupada-vani, the transition was to enthrone new “vapus“, or living gurus. The transition continues as an integral part of the general metamorphosis of the International Society for Krsna Consciousness.

An interesting interpolation in the purport of Bhagavad-gita 4.34, 1983 revised edition, illustrates how the “living guru” concept and minimizing the transcendental potency of Srila Prabhupada’s words go hand in hand. The original purport, 1st Edition reads:

Therefore, mental speculation or dry arguments cannot help one progress in spiritual life. One has to approach a bonafide spiritual master to receive the knowledge.”

And the revised version purport reads:

Therefore, mental speculation or dry arguments cannot help lead one to the right path. Nor by independent study of knowledge can one progress in spiritual life.”

Now even if, as they often claim, this additional wording was purloined by the editors from a previous draft of the manuscript submitted to Macmillan, it is not applicable to Srila Prabhupada’s books and was better edited out. In fact, the independent, serious study of Srila Prabhupada’s books of knowledge guarantee advancement in spiritual life! Because reading Srila Prabhupada’s purports is approaching the bonafide spiritual master. The whole point of distributing those books is to get people to read them and experience spiritual enlightenment. As Srila Prabhupada writes in his Preface to the Srimad Bhagavatam (1ast Ed.): “The reading matter is so arranged… that one is sure to become a God realized soul at the end of finishing the first nine cantos.” And in the Krsna Book Introduction (1st Ed.), he explains that when people who are after sex life in this material world read “…about Krsna’s pastimes with the gopis, they will relish transcendental pleasure, although it appears to be materialistic.” Actually, the potency or power of Srila Prabhupada-vani to revive Krsna consciousness, rasabhavamrita, is proving inconceivable.

The idea that one must have a living diksa guru to understand Krsna consciousness from Srila Prabhupada appears to be a scam. The fact is that reading or hearing from Srila Prabhupada is associating with the most bonafide spiritual master, the best spiritual master, at whose pada (lotus feet) all other prabhus pay obeisances. And reading his books is directly associating with him and equal in power to hearing in his physical presence.

In a lecture in Bombay on December 6, 1974, Srila Prabhupada said, referring to sastras, “Only highly qualified brahmins, they used to keep hand-written. And it was worshipped in the temple as Deity sastra. Not that it was available anywhere. Now press has made it very cheaper. But we should always understand that grantah or the scripture should be worshipped as God. That is sound incarnation of God. It should not be neglected. Don’t neglect Bhagwat, Bhagavad-gita as ordinary books. You must be very careful. So, as you take care of the Deities, so take care of the books also.”

The conclusion is that in the same way Lord Krsna is identical with His words in the Gita, even though He spoke them long ago, Srila Prabhupada is actually present in his purports, even though he is no longer physically present. And those purports are as much sastra as the verses they explain. Those books are as good as Deities in the temple. They are not the playthings of editors, but the literary incarnations of God and His most confidential servants. Therefore, they must be approached with all respect and reverence.

Srila Prabhupada’s books and recordings are a consistent and constant source of revelation for anyone who follows him. If one is able to follow Srila Prabhupada’s instructions to chant 16 rounds, follow the four regulative principles, systematically study his teachings and then help others do the same, that person will undoubtedly remember Lord Krsna at the time of death. Such a bhakta may be unable to discover a guru fully qualified to give diksa and specific name. Those who factually meet the standards required by Srila Prabhupada to become a genuine spiritual master may be few and far between. But by honestly and seriously accepting Srila Prabhupada as siksa guru, anyone can obtain freedom from the material conception of life, be inspired to action in Krsna consciousness, and learn to think of Srila Prabhupada and Lord Krsna always.

Rupanuga das is mixed-up. He does NOT understand WHAT Diksa IS hence his mental speculations on Rivik initiations:

    http://www.rupanugadas.com/2013/10/ritvik-reality.html

“The reasonable conclusion to all this is straightforward when based upon Srila Prabhupada’s declared intentions: he wished to return to his duties as initiating spiritual master as soon as he could, which means that the word “henceforward” was equivalent to “for the foreseeable future” and “until further notice.” Therefore, there is no evidence that Srila Prabhupada intended to introduce the July 9th letter as a permanent procedure for continuing his disciplic succession. That parampara procedure had already been explained in his books.”

  2. Vadiraja Das says:

Rupanuga Johnny come lately started his writings emphasizing the book form of the Spiritual Master,to later on in his last paragraph blow it all with his balancing act of keeping one foot in ISKCON and the other in his inconclusive comprehension of what he is talking about. “May be few and far between” “To discover a Guru not fully qualified to give Diksha”(?) “accept prabhupada as a Siksha Guru”(?) What is “a Guru not fully qualified to give Diksha? If it is a Guru how can it not be fully qualified? What kind of “Guru”is he referring to? He is all over the map. In California’s discount store 7- Eleven you find the advertisement and sales of any brand of the competition. He sales Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola.

  3. Vadiraja Das says:

Jajajajaja!!!! Rupanuga secure and lock every door in his house, his safe where he keeps all his Gold and when he leaves the House he gives the keys to a thieve.

  4. RUPANUGA’S PYRITE PHILOSOPHY

Rupanuga uses nine paragraphs to demonstrate that Srila Prabhupada is present and living in his books and is nondifferent from them. Unfortunately, in his tenth and last paragraph, Rupanuga loses control of the wheel and takes a thousand-foot plunge off the icy road of speculation.

Rupanuga assures us that Srila Prabhupada is present in his books today. On the other hand, though, Rupanuga says Srila Prabhupada can’t give diksa through his books anymore. This is a HUGE distinction between Srila Prabhupada and his books, and as such, a huge contradiction in Rupanuga’s article. Rupanuga is ultimately preaching the same living guru philosophy as his old pals in ISKCON are: that one can only have a siksa relationship with Srila Prabhupada and that diksa depends on a living, physical body.

So Rupanuga, is Srila Prabhupada present in his books or is he not?

  5. Mahesh Raja says:

Rupanuga das does NOT want to HEAR Srila Prabhupada. He has his MENTAL SPECULATIONS on what a Diksa guru is. He was thinking that Sridhara Maharaja the man who DISOBEYED his Guru Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura is Diksa Guru! 3rd offense in Chanting the Holy name is DISOBEY the Spiritual Master and Rupanuga is thinking Sridhara Maharaja is Diksa guru – just see!
HOW can a man who has DISOBEYED the Guru be a DIKSA Guru? Does this make any sense?

Diksa guru gives TRANSCENDENTAL knowledge. And Sridhara Maharaja was in the MATERIAL MODES. HOW can the man give TRANSCENDENTAL knowledge being a CONDITIONED SOUL? Just see the man HYPOCRISY! Rupanuga das the Johnny come lately is showing us his brotherly love with the gang of MANIPULATIVE ANTI RITVIK SLAVERY MAKING MONEY SCREWING CROOKS: THE BOGUS gbc RUBBER-STAMP FACTORY MADE CONDITIONED SOUL “GURUS” (DEMONS) Although Srila Prabhupada tells him THEREFORE WE MAY NOT COMMIT THE SAME MISTAKE IN OUR ISKCON CAMP. He is determined to DENY THE MASTER – Srila Prabhupada.
1977- 2015 THAT IS 38 YEARS of LIVING IN DENIAL. Just see HOW the man has WASTED his life to lick the bums of the BOGUS gbc by DENYING Srila Prabhupada as Current Diksa guru.
So HOW MUCH are they paying him for his Anti Ritvik propaganda?

The man no shame, no manners?

Analysis of Srila Prabhupada’s Letter to Rupanuga

    http://harekrsna.com/sun/editorials/12-07/editorials2250.htm

“You are right about Sridhara Maharaja’s genuineness. But in my opinion he is the best of the lot. He is my old friend, AT LEAST HE EXECUTES THE REGULATIVE PRINCIPLES OF DEVOTIONAL SERVICE. I do not wish to discuss about activities of my Godbrothers but it is a fact they have no life for preaching work. All are satisfied with a place for residence in the name of a temple, they engage disciples to get foodstuff by transcendental devices and eat and sleep. They have no idea or brain how to broadcast the cult of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.”

My Guru Maharaja used to lament many times for this reason and he thought if one man at least had understood the principle of preaching then his mission would achieve success. In the latter days of my Guru Maharaja he was very disgusted. Actually, he left this world earlier, otherwise he would have continued to live for more years. Still he requested his disciples to form a strong Governing body for preaching the cult of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. HE NEVER RECOMMENDED ANYONE TO BE ACARYA OF THE GAUDIYA MATH. BUT SRIDHARA MAHARAJA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DISOBEYING THIS ORDER OF GURU MAHARAJA, AND HE AND OTHERS WHO ARE ALREADY DEAD UNNECESSARILY THOUGHT THAT THERE MUST BE ONE ACARYA. If Guru Maharaja could have seen someone who was qualified at that time to be acarya he would have mentioned. Because on the night before he passed away he talked of so many things, but never mentioned an acarya. His idea was acarya was not to be nominated amongst the governing body. He said openly you make a GBC and conduct the mission. So his idea was amongst the members of GBC who would come out successful and self effulgent acarya would be automatically selected. So Sridhara Maharaja and his two associate gentlemen unauthorizedly selected one acarya and later it proved a failure. THE RESULT IS NOW EVERYONE IS CLAIMING TO BE ACARYA EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY BE KANISTHA ADHIKARI WITH NO ABILITY TO PREACH. IN SOME OF THE CAMPS THE ACARYA IS BEING CHANGED THREE TIMES A YEAR. THEREFORE WE MAY NOT COMMIT THE SAME MISTAKE IN OUR ISKCON CAMP. ACTUALLY AMONGST MY GODBROTHERS NO ONE IS QUALIFIED TO BECOME ACARYA. SO IT IS BETTER NOT TO MIX WITH MY GODBROTHERS VERY INTIMATELY BECAUSE INSTEAD OF INSPIRING OUR STUDENTS AND DISCIPLES THEY MAY SOMETIMES POLLUTE THEM. This attempt was made previously by them, especially Madhava Maharaja and Tirtha Maharaja and Bon Maharaja but somehow or other I saved the situation. This is going on. We shall be very careful about them and not mix with them. This is my instruction to you all. They cannot help us in our movement, but they are very competent to harm our natural progress. So we must be very careful about them.”

In this letter Srila Prabhupada gives a HUGE amount of information.

    1) Notice how he gives Sridhara Maharaja credit – for ONLY- AT LEAST HE EXECUTES THE REGULATIVE PRINCIPLES-so we can understand Sridhara Maharaja was NOT on prema bhakti level he was on REGULATIVE PRINCIPLES platform (Sadhana bhakti). The word AT LEAST means other Godbrothers did NOT even execute Regulative Principles.

    2) Srila Prabhupada says, AMONGST MY GODBROTHERS NO ONE IS QUALIFIED TO BECOME ACARYA. If Srila Prabhupada’s Godbrothers were NOT qualified – ANY of THEIR disciples most certainly could NOT be fit to give Diksa either. Please see Diksa understanding in my article: “Diksa Given to Madhyama-adhikari is Not a Formality”.

    3) How can a person disobey the Guru and become Guru? Srila Prabhupada’s Godbrothers disobeyed THEIR Guru Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura.

    4) Srila Prabhupada further states THEY MAY BE KANISTHA ADHIKARI – this “MAYBE” means it is doubtful they were even on a Kanistha Adhikari platform, which requires one to be a FULLY QUALIFIED BRAHMANA. This PROVED they lacked the Brahminical quality of truthfulness. They were dishonest, they PRETENDED to give DIKSA under the false guise of being Guru.

Srila Prabhupada Room Conversation, February 14, 1977 in Mayapur:

Prabhupada: Kanistha-adhikari means he must be a brahmana. That is kanistha-adhikari. The spiritual life, kanistha-adhikari, means he must be a QUALIFIED brahmana. That is kanistha. What is esteemed as very high position in the material world, brahmana, that is kanistha-adhikari.

    arcayam eva haraye
    pujam yah sraddhayehate
    na tad-bhaktesu canyesu
    sa bhaktah prakrtah smrtah
The brahmana means from the material stage gradually he is elevated to the spiritual stage. AND BELOW THE BRAHMANA THERE IS NO QUESTION OF VAISNAVA.

Srila Prabhupada KNEW the mentality of some of his “disciples” FULLY well-this is why he says THEREFORE WE MAY NOT COMMIT THE SAME MISTAKE IN OUR ISKCON CAMP-they all had the same ACARYA disease. As a Representative of the Supersoul, he could FULLY understand their desire was to be worshipped as ACARYA (Vyasa puja is prerogative of the Acarya ONLY). To SAVE the devotees from such offensive actions Srila Prabhupada signed — ordered and set-up — the Ritvik System on 9th July 1977, which incidentally was NEVER REVOKED by him.

  6. Balaram das says:

In Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 2.8.7, “Questions by King Pariksit”, Srila Prabhupada states in his Bhaktivedanta Purport>>>

“It is illegal to become a spiritual master if one is unable to deliver the disciple”.

So who amongst the ‘MASS’ rubber stamped pretenders are able to deliver their so called disciples?

Bhakti Charu swami quote (Istagosthi 1/2/2001)
“I make it very clear to my disciples that I am only able to take them to the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada and it is Srila Prabhupada who will DELIVER them and engage them in the service of Krsna’s lotus feet.”
(Double standard, selective humility when it suits!)

Sounds suspiciously like a ritvik system to me, except of course he will keep all the daksine profit, adoration & distinction for himself!

    Yh streetsweeper,
    Balaram das.

  7. Balaram Prabhu writes: “Sounds suspiciously like a ritvik system to me, except of course he will keep all the daksine profit, adoration & distinction for himself!”

This is exactly right. They are all juggling words — using sleight of hand to bewilder and fool their innocent victims known as “disciples” so they can grab the material benefits all for themselves. Take a look at Satsvarupa’s website. He is siphoning off untold thousands of dollars (likely much more) to support his comfie lifestyle in the ‘burbs where he lives in a palatial house and spends his days “painting for Krishna,” writing his nonsense poems and eating sumptuous meals at others’ expense. And he has the nerve to call himself a “goswami,” bringing shameful discredit and disrepute to the very title of sannyasa, what to speak of to Srila Prabhupada himself. These people have no shame.

So Bhakticaru is dumping the responsibility of delivering the disciple on Srila Prabhupada’s head while he is taking the cash, the worship, the nice living facilities and the free travel around the world. (Not a bad gig if you can get it.)

As for Rupanuga, he went along with the farce right from the beginning and it appears that he hasn’t changed a bit. More word jugglery, that’s all. He probably has some secret deal on the side to ensure that he has a good retirement fund or place to reside in his declining years, courtesy of those whose back he is scratching now. They’re all so bloody self-motivated that it’s just plain sickening to watch. No wonder there are more “former” ISKCON members by far than there are current members. And the revolving door keeps spinning – except for those who have cemented their positions and paychecks in place. They hang around for as long as possible because they have nowhere else to go now. Might as well parade around in their saffron dress and make hay while the sun shines. After all, it’s a tough world out there. Heaven forbid they might ever have to work for their money. Horrors! Banish the thought form your head. They’re so used to everything being free that they’ll never work another day in their lives while their godbrothers and godsisters practically starve to death somewhere in obscurity. Do you think they care? Or do you think they actually care about their so-called “disciples”? Not if their money runs out – you can bet on it. All bogus rascals.

Nice analysis and comments from everyone here.

Yes LW Prabhu, and he is also the author of the x-rated sex novel Sanatorium, and here is his half-baked forced apology>>>

      By the GBC EC

In response to some devotees’ concerns regarding his book “Sanatorium”, Satsvarupa Maharaja has given the following comment and has also decided to withdraw from circulation any remaining copies of the book.

      Dear Devotees,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
I have come to realize that my book “Sanitorium” contains explicit sexual scenes and references. I am sorry I have written it. I apologize and promise not to write a book like this again.

Yours in service to Prabhupada, Satvarupa das Goswami

And they still refer to him as a maharaj & goswami! Rather GODAS, GODAS, GODAS

      Yhs, Bal.

      • Haribol Balaram Prabhu,

        Yes, this is ridiculous:

“I have come to realize that my book ‘Sanitorium’ contains explicit sexual scenes and references. I am sorry I have written it.”

He has come to realize it – AFTER he wrote and published it?!? So why did it take him so long to “realize” what he had written? Probably because he was so jacked up on tranquilizers and other drugs when he wrote it. I looked through some of his books and there are parts where he states that it’s time for a writing session, and then he takes a pill or some pills to get going. In other places he talks about some kind of sexual episode as a child, but it sounded homoerotic in nature – a type of molestation occurred, I think. It was shrouded or covered, but it was there. I can’t be bothered to go back and try to find it amongst all his gobbledygook, but this man is hiding something deep. I actually think he has a certifiable mental illness. He is really cheating big time.

Actually, they’re all a band of thieves protecting one another so they can get away with their crime – the greatest crime in history – sabotaging Srila Prabhupada and his mission to “save earth now!!” But Prabhupada will succeed anyway. He has already succeeded. These fools are on the wrong side of God’s grace, unfortunately — for them and for all of us. So things are delayed, but these puny glow worms can never eclipse the brilliant sun. They will all be vanquished soon enough.

        Jaya Prabhupada!

They are going to be PUNISHED put into animal bodies, snake bodies. They have made Soooooo many OFFENCES against the Holy name. But——— EVERYTHING will be TESTED at the time of DEATH. As Srila Prabhupada says: BUT YOUR KARMA WILL DECIDE THE NEXT BODY. BHAJANA KARA SADHANA KARA MURTI JANLE HAYA

    750906SB.VRN Lectures
So this process of Krsna consciousness is so nice that svalpam apy asya dharmasya, even slightly executed in due time… Because the process is we are educating people to chant Hare Krsna to practice, so in due time, Hare Krsna at the time of death especially, if we can chant this holy name of God, Hare Krsna, then our life is successful. So unless we practice, how it will be possible to chant at the time of death? Because at the time of death the whole system, anatomical-physiological system, becomes disturbed, in bewilderness, in coma, in unconsciousness. But still, if one has practiced, there is possibility of chanting the holy name of the Lord, Hare Krsna, Narayana. Then that is success of life. In a Bengali there is a proverb, BHAJANA KARA SADHANA KARA MURTI JANLE HAYA(?), THAT “WHATEVER YOU ARE EXECUTING AS A BHAJANA, SADHANA, THAT’S ALL RIGHT, BUT IT WILL BE TESTED AT THE TIME OF YOUR DEATH.” IT WILL BE TEST. JUST LIKE A PARROT IS CHANTING, “HARE KRSNA, HARE KRSNA,” BUT WHEN SOME CAT COMES IN, “KAW, KAW, KAW.” NO. THEN MISSING. SO PARROT LIFE WILL NOT HELP YOU. YOU MUST BE REALLY CHANTING WITHOUT ANY OFFENSE. THEN IT IS POSSIBILITY THAT AT THE TIME OF DEATH… Death will be there. You may be very proud of your body, that “I am permanent.” No. “As sure as death.” And after death you have to change your body. Tatha dehantara-praptih. That we do not know, what kind of body I will enjoy. Now I have got Serji’s(?) body. That’s all right. But your karma will decide the next body.

Bg 16.19 T The Divine And Demoniac Natures
    tan aham dvisatah kruran

    TRANSLATION
THOSE WHO ARE ENVIOUS AND MISCHIEVOUS, WHO ARE THE LOWEST AMONG MEN, ARE CAST BY ME INTO THE OCEAN OF MATERIAL EXISTENCE, INTO VARIOUS DEMONIAC SPECIES OF LIFE.
    PURPORT
In this verse it is clearly indicated that the placing of a particular individual soul in a particular body is the prerogative of the supreme will. The demoniac person may not agree to accept the supremacy of the Lord, and it is a fact that he may act according to his own whims, but his next birth will depend upon the decision of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and not on himself. In the Srimad-Bhagavatam, Third Canto, it is stated that an individual soul, after his death, is put into the womb of a mother where he gets a particular type of body under the supervision of superior power. Therefore in the material existence we find so many species of life–animals, insects, men, and so on. ALL ARE ARRANGED BY THE SUPERIOR POWER. THEY ARE NOT ACCIDENTAL. AS FOR THE DEMONIAC, IT IS CLEARLY SAID HERE THAT THEY ARE PERPETUALLY PUT INTO THE WOMBS OF DEMONS, AND THUS THEY CONTINUE TO BE ENVIOUS, THE LOWEST OF MANKIND. SUCH DEMONIAC SPECIES OF LIFE ARE HELD TO BE ALWAYS FULL OF LUST, ALWAYS VIOLENT AND HATEFUL AND ALWAYS UNCLEAN. THEY ARE JUST LIKE SO MANY BEASTS IN A JUNGLE.

  10. Vadiraja Das says:

“Kill Guru then be killed yourself”‘ S.P. Yamaraja just as Garuda do with Snakes, is letting them think they are getting away, but then, Snatch!!!! Bhukti Charu as Tamal ,Jayatirtha,Bhaktitirtha and co. will eventually get his punishment in time.

    • Yes, Vadiraja Prabhu. Even Krishna Himself likes to play with the demons for a while, making them think they’re winning the fight and also to increase His devotees’ love and attachment for Him.

“But in spite of Krishna’s beautiful features, Kāliya felt great anger within his heart, and thus he grabbed Krishna’ with his mighty coils. Seeing the incredible way in which Krishna’ was enveloped in the coils of the serpent, the affectionate cowherd boys and inhabitants of Vrndāvana immediately became stunned out of fear. They had dedicated everything to Krishna, their lives, property, affection, activities–everything was for Krishna–and when they saw Him in that condition, they became overwhelmed with fear and fell down on the ground. All the cows, bulls and small calves became overwhelmed with grief, and they began to look at Him with great anxiety. Out of fear they could only cry in agony and stand erect on the bank, unable to help their beloved Krishna.

“While this scene was taking place on the bank of the Yamunā, there were ill omens manifest. The earth trembled, meteors fell from the sky, and the bodies of men shivered. All these are indications of great immediate danger. Observing the inauspicious signs, the cowherd men, including Mahārāja Nanda, became very anxious out of fear. At the same time they were informed that Krishna had gone to the pasturing ground without His elder brother, Balarāma. As soon as Nanda and Yaśodā and the cowherd men heard this news, they became even more anxious. Out of their great affection for Krishna, unaware of the extent of Krishna’s potencies, they became overwhelmed with grief and anxiety because they had nothing dearer than Krishna and because they dedicated their everything–life, property, affection, mind and activities–to Krishna. Because of their great attachment for Krishna, they thought, ‘Today Krishna is surely going to be vanquished!'”

(Krishna Book, Chapter 16, Subduing Kaliya)

Of course, we all know who wins in the end! Similarly, it may seem like the demons have snatched away Prabhupada’s movement, but not for long. Krishna will see to it that His devotee and His devotee’s mission is never vanquished, rest assured.

WHEN A SINFUL MAN ENJOYS MATERIAL FACILITIES, FOOLISH PEOPLE SOMETIMES THINK, “HOW IS IT THAT THIS SINFUL MAN IS ENJOYING WHEREAS A PIOUS MAN IS SUFFERING?” BY THE WILL OF THE SUPREME, A SINFUL MAN IS SOMETIMES GIVEN THE CHANCE TO ENJOY THE MATERIAL WORLD AS IF HE WERE NOT UNDER THE CLUTCHES OF MATERIAL NATURE, JUST SO THAT HE MAY BE FOOLED. A sinful man who acts against the laws of nature must be punished, BUT SOMETIMES HE IS GIVEN A CHANCE TO PLAY, EXACTLY LIKE HIRANYAKASIPU

        TRANSLATION
O Yudhisthira, O great son of Bharata, when Lord Nrsimhadeva gave Hiranyakasipu a chance to slip from His hand, just as Garuda sometimes plays with a snake and lets it slip from his mouth, the demigods, who had lost their abodes and who were hiding behind the clouds for fear of the demon, did not consider that incident very good. Indeed, they were perturbed.

        PURPORT
When Hiranyakasipu was in the process of being killed by Lord Nrsimhadeva, the Lord gave the demon a chance to slip from His clutches. This incident was not very much appreciated by the demigods, for they were greatly afraid of Hiranyakasipu. They knew that if somehow or other Hiranyakasipu escaped from Nrsimhadeva’s hands and saw that the demigods were looking forward to his death with great pleasure, he would take great revenge upon them. Therefore they were very much afraid.

  12. Amar Puri says:

The reason why a SINFUL man is given a chance to enjoy the material name fame and status is that that SINFUL man has some left over CREDIT on account of the good ( pious ) activities.

As soon as the CREDIT is used up, the person is destined for his next life out of the 84 Lakhs species as per the desired activities at the time of leaving his body.

    • Sudarsana Das Vanacari says:

      Excellent analysis Amar Puri Prabhu.

There is much more going on than appears on the surface, in what can be quite a bewildering scenario of contradictions for the ‘inexperienced observer’ who can only a perceive a kind of ‘collective superficiality’ thinking that it is the genuine article. The sinful persons appear to be cavalier and carefree but in a moment they display extreme terror and fear as their doom approaches and they lose what ‘material control’ they believed they were in possession of in a final mood of desperation.

This pretense can easily be overcome (and understood) by adherence to the Sastras, which are so perfectly enunciated by Srila Prabhupada as he ‘cuts away’ all the illusory nonsense and reveals what lies beneath, exposing what is the true substance. In a similar way this can sometimes be understood when we see a clown or stand-up comic trying to make people laugh, I see many of them to be tragic and tortured souls and very difficult to watch as they try to create a different persona to mask their pain and anguish.

Mahesh: This is a FACT. History repeats itself:

SB 3.1.9 P Questions by Vidura
Lord Krsna, who is the spiritual master of the entire universe, accepted the duty of a messenger, and, deputed by Arjuna, went to the assembly of King Dhrtarastra on a peace mission. Krsna is everyone’s Lord, yet because He was the transcendental friend of Arjuna, He gladly accepted the role of messenger, exactly like an ordinary friend. That is the beauty of the Lord’s behavior with His pure devotees. He reached the assembly and spoke about peace, and the message was relished by Bhisma and other great leaders because it was spoken by the Lord Himself. BUT DUE TO THE EXHAUSTION OF THE PIOUS RESULTS OF THEIR PAST DEEDS, DURYODHANA, OR HIS FATHER, DHRTARASTRA, DID NOT TAKE THE MESSAGE VERY SERIOUSLY. THAT IS THE WAY OF PERSONS WHO HAVE NO CREDIT OF PIOUS DEEDS. BY PAST PIOUS DEEDS, ONE MAY BECOME THE KING OF A COUNTRY, BUT BECAUSE THE RESULTS OF THE PIOUS ACTS OF DURYODHANA AND COMPANY WERE DWINDLING, IT BECAME EVIDENT FROM THEIR ACTIONS THAT THEY WERE SURE TO LOSE THE KINGDOM TO THE PANDAVAS. The message of Godhead is always like nectar to the devotees, but it is just the opposite to the nondevotees. Sugar candy is always sweet to a healthy man, but it tastes very bitter to persons suffering from jaundice.

In Ramayana there is also a statement Vinasha kale viparith buddhi” this means that when one’s doom approaches, then one’s mind, one’s intelligence works perversely.
