October 9th
Fasting for Indira Ekadasi
Paksa vardhini Mahadvadasi
Everywhere else they have Ekadasi on Thursday 8th 2015 looks like Mayapur folks have got it WRONG. They are the ONLY ones who are following 9th Friday 2015.
Hare Krsna Mahesh prabhu,
I assumed the calendar posted by the ‘Hare Krsna Community’ as above, was always just copied from the Mayapur website calendar, as they have always been identical dates, so was the error with Mayapur or the HKC calendar.. would be nice to know.
As soon as you’re out of the India time zone, the dates may be different, as they have been adjusted according to the lunar calculation of where we are, so different countries may have Ekadasi on different dates.
According to Yasodanandan Prabhu, Srila Prabhupada never adjusted the dates, but after his physical departure, Syamasundara das made the VCAL programme which generates calendars for any place on the earth, which to a great accuracy will correspond to drk. (what we can see in the sky)
Now, it is up to everyone if they want to follow Mayapur calendar or the VCAL calendars. Personally in Australia, I follow the VCAL for Ekadasi (for correct astrological influence avoiding grains etc), but celebrate and observe the Mayapur dates for Visnu and saktyavesa avataras. Krsna and Acaryas didn’t appear in Australia.
Maybe that’s my strange way of thinking. Ultimately we can’t go wrong by following whatever Prabhupada did. Even one Ekadasi feast in India, the devotees accidentally used the soft icing sugar with ‘flour’ for the simply wonderfuls and Prabhupada said no worry, we are not fanatical. (quoted from ISKCON Cinema- Following Srila Prabhupada).
Yhs,
Balaram das.
