Iskcon devotee suicide by hanging,
Russian husband held on suspicion
Vrindavan 2016.08.01 (VT): A female devotee of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) was found dead at her home in suspicious circumstances. Her husband reported the death to the police, saying that his wife had committed suicide by hanging herself.
The woman’s family has accused him of murdering their daughter. The police have sent forensic experts to investigate.
Buegon Vladislav, aka Vaikuntha Gaura Das, is a Russian native who is living in Vrindavan from the past many years. He married Shyamlata, daughter of Jagdish, in the year 2007 and has been staying at their house located in the Kalidah area since then.
Vaikunth Gaura Das and Shyamlata were staying in their apartment with their 8-year-old daughter Jugal Kishori.
In the statement he gave to the police, Das said that his wife’s mental condition had not been good for the past couple of years, and that she had been undergoing treatment at the mental hospital in Agra.
He further said that his daughter informed him yesterday that Shyamlata had locked herself inside room at around 1 pm. When they broke open the door, he found the dead body of his wife hanging from the fan.
Mother and sister of deceased Shyamlata
Shyamlata’s mother Rajwati and sister Premlata accused Vaikuntha Gaur Das of being behind her daughter’s death. They said that he had been having many extramarital affairs, due to which his wife had been under a great deal of stress for some time.
Jugal Kishori, daughter of the deceased, said that her mother offered the food to Thakur Ji and then asked her to take lunch while she went upstairs to rest. Jugal Kishori too went upstairs after her mother but found the door locked from the inside. She said that her father used to beat her mother and that his behaviour was not very good.
Alok Dubey (CO Sadar Police Station) said that the police reached the scene as soon as they got the information. He said that Das has been arrested on the basis of suspicion, but nothing can be decided until they get the postmortem and forensic reports.
Shyamlata was 30 years old at the time of death.
Shyamlata was poisoned two months back also
Rajwati said that two months earlier her daughter had been poisoned by her husband. On that occasion had found her daughter vomiting badly. When she asked the situation from Das, he started making excuses, but the doctor’s reports made it clear that there had been poison in her food.
She also said that Das’s mother also visited and her behaviour had also been bad and that she too used to threaten Shyamlata often.
