NATURAL DISASTERS AND THE LAWS OF NATURE
As we look around the world, or watch and read the news, practically everywhere is affected by some kind of natural disaster. Floods are displacing millions of people, forest fires are destroying thousands of acres and burning out of control, earthquakes continue to force people to live in fear, and tornadoes and hurricanes have become more fierce and numerous than ever. And if that is not enough, droughts are causing massive crop damage and water shortages.
The fact is that nobody likes a loss, no matter how great or small it may be. And a disaster can take years to recover from, which can only increase our struggle to exist in this world. So what are we to make of all this? Is this just our own bad luck? Is this some kind of karmic reaction we are suffering? Is this merely the way life goes on in this material world? Or is this what God is doing to us? In fact, where is God in all of this?
From a spiritual perspective, when we ask “Where is God in all of this?” we must understand that to blame God for the way the nature works is our own ignorance. And this ignorance is only the misguided perception of the absence of God, just as darkness is only the absence of light.
Most modern people are of an atheistic mentality. Even though they call themselves so many things like Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, Muslims etc., they don’t have a proper spiritual understanding. They don’t even have a holistic understanding, or if they have, they don’t act on it. In any case, it is a sign of a diseased society, when the majority of people are materialists, trying to exploit mother earth of its resources, destroying nature for their greedy sense-gratification.
When the majority of people abuse nature, then they will be punished by nature for their crimes – natural catastrophes, disease, social unrest, war and all kinds of miseries. That’s the mess we are in right now. Only people in ignorance cannot detect this obvious fact, and because they are the majority, society is falling apart.
With such ignorance, one is led to believe in the strength of materialistic science, with its discovery of atomic energy and space travel by mechanical vehicles, and by such tiny advancements in material science the false egoist tries to challenge even the strength of the Supreme Lord, who can finish all man’s tiny endeavours in less than a second.
“Those who are thus bewildered are attracted by demonic and atheistic views. In that deluded condition, their hopes for liberation, their fruitive activities, and their culture of materialistic advancement are all defeated.” (Bg 9.12 )
Prabhupāda: The ways of material nature is that you cannot remain in comfort. That is not possible. By laws of nature… Tri-tāpa-yatana, three kinds of miseries, adhyātmika, adhibhautika, adhidaivika, they must be there always. Just like I am your spiritual master. You have kept me very nicely, to your best capacity, but I am coughing. I am coughing. So even if we are situated in one kind of comfortable position, then another uncomfort will come and attack. This is called adhyātmika, pertaining to the mind, pertaining to the body. Adhyātmika. So in this material world we have to work very hard under these three kinds of miserable conditions of life, and we are actually doing that. Still, we are thinking that we are happy. And after all, after doing this, we have to change this body. That means death. We cannot avoid it. But still, we are thinking that we are happy, and we have no sense to try to understand actually what is the standard of happiness, where that happiness can be had, if it is possible. These things are understood and answered by this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. That is the importance of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness. All-round. It is not one-sided, that we are thinking of Kṛṣṇa. Thinking of Kṛṣṇa means thinking of everything, because Kṛṣṇa is everything. Without Kṛṣṇa, there is no other thing. (Lecture/May/16/1973)
Tri-tāpa-yatana — the three-fold miseries of life
THE THREEFOLD MISERIES
What are the threefold miseries of life? In the material world the the living entity experiences birth, disease, old age, and death and is forced to accept three types of suffering, namely: those miseries stemming from his own mind and body, those inflicted by other living entities, and those miseries arising from natural catastrophes hurled at him by the demigods.
The threefold miseries are called adhyātmika, adhibhautika, and adhidaivika. The word adhyātmika refers to those miseries caused by the mind and body. Sometimes the living entity suffers bodily, and sometimes he is distressed mentally. Both are adhyātmika miseries. We experience these miseries even in the womb of our mother. As we well know, there are many types of miseries that take advantage of the delicate human body and give us pain. Miseries inflicted by other living entities are called adhibhautika. These living entities need not even be large, for there are many-such as bugs-that can make us miserable even while we are sleeping in bed. There are many insignificant living entities, like cockroaches, that sometimes give us pain, and there are also other living entities who are born on different kinds of planets and who give us miseries. As far as the adhidaivika miseries are concerned, these are natural disasters that originate with the demigods of the higher planets. For instance, we sometimes suffer from severe cold or hot weather, from a thunderbolt, or from earthquakes, tornadoes, droughts and many natural disasters. In any case, we are always suffering from either one or a combination of these three kinds of miseries.
As long as the living entity is entangled in the fruitive activities of so-called happiness and distress, he will receive a particular type of body in which to endure the three kinds of suffering due to material nature (tri-tāpa-yantraṇā).

sukha—happiness; duḥkha-daḥ—giving pain; (sukha–duḥkha—happiness and distress)
Sorrow and suffering (duḥkha) are inevitable part of life. Knowledge regarding their origin, causes and even categorization helps one to minimize their effect, if not eradicate them. The scriptures usually call them ‘Tri-tāpa-yatana’ (‘the three-fold miseries’) and categorize them into ādhyātmika, ādhidaivika and adhibhautika.
- Adhibhautika literally means pertaining to the bhuta or living entities, including ghosts.
- Adhidaivika literally means pertaining to the daiva or fate, unseen forces and demi-gods, causing natural disasters.
- Ādhyātmika literally means pertaining to the ātma (the self with the body and the mind).
- The ādhyātmika duḥkha is that which is caused by bodily suffering and mental anguish. Hereditary diseases like leprosy, disabilities like blindness or lameness and diseases caused by the violation of the rules of health and sanitation are classed under this. The mental agony caused by worries and anxieties, attachment and aversion, also comes under this group.
- The ādhidaivika duḥkha is that which is caused by daiva, the demi-gods. The word daiva includes also the power of time, nature and the unseen hand or fate. Diseases caused by the changing seasons, misery caused by the elemental forces like floods and fire, suffering caused by black magic or disembodied spirits or gods who are displeased, natural tribulations due to hunger, thirst and old-age belongs to this group.
- The ādhibhautika duḥkha is that which is caused by other bhutas or living beings, like ghosts, wild animals, dogs, snakes, mosquitoes, bugs, etc.
Some of these, like hereditary diseases or physical disabilities cannot be got rid of. Hence they must be endured. Some like the diseases caused by change of seasons or the machinations of enemies can be countered by taking appropriate precautions. However, raising the mind to the level of the spirit soul, thus transcending the limitations imposed by the body-mind complex, is the best solution to offset the effects of tri-tāpa-yatana — the three-fold miseries of life.
“O best among men [Arjuna], the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation.” (BG 2.15)
Anyone who is steady in his determination for the advanced stage of spiritual realization and can equally tolerate the onslaughts of distress and happiness is certainly a person eligible for liberation.
After the constant natural disasters all over the world, which kill thousands of people how can an atheist believe in God?

Balaram Prabhu, I agree with you 100 percent. NO doubt about it.
However, it is my inference, perhaps, that the staunch Ritvik Initiated devotees particularly dedicated to the mission of our Jagat Guru Srila Prabhupada feel and/or felt to use ” acbsp ” with their spiritual name in order to strongly identify to stand out amongst the others that they are RITVIK initiated devotee.
That is the mere reason I can think of it.
And it appears that Shriman Vadiraja Prabhu happens to be the one who uses ” acbsp ” after his spiritual name.
Is it necessary to use ?
I do not think so.
How does it matter ?
It is nicely described in comments of Balaram Prabhu’s post.
Therefore, based on my personal opinion, it is better to avoid using it wide openly in the public forum that which creates unnecessarily confusion in the eyes of so many Readers where it does not serve its purpose.

Yes! Balaram Prabhu. This is another bogus concoction by the FISKCON poisoners, so that more and more of Prabhupada’s true followers are coerced into following their mendacious bogus gooroo ”authority” modus operandi. Another spanner to throw into what should be Srila Prabhupada’s Ritvik instruction for future initiation, which makes such an affix of Srila Prabhupada’s initials completely pointless as EVERYONE IN ISKCON IS SRILA PRABHUPADA’S DISCIPLE ( ISKCON means, Prabhupada disciple!).
So on this point I totally agree! Also I make the point that, affixing Srila Prabhupada’s initials ‘in lower case’ after a disciples name ‘in upper case’ is just adding ”insult to injury!” in my humble opinion.
Thank you Sundarananda Prabhu for your question. It is not that there is a 99% that ISKCON has been infiltrated by covert intelligence organizations but more like a 100% probability considering the ”threat” that the ‘greatest force for goodness” poses to the deep state which is underpinned by Kali.

The article is worth reading as it gives a deeper understanding of this phenomena. This may explain the prolific amount of drugs that the Mayapur and other ”leaders” (Jayapataka, Bhavananda, Hridayananda) were indulging in at the time! as the CIA and other intelligence groups have unlimited supplies of drugs {and CASH} (after all who do you think supplies the whole of the USA?
I remember the Ananda Marga group in Adelaide in the 70s, they were into the impersonalist aspect, though not really Mayavadis or Sahajiyas. They had a restaurant in town. They were ‘set up’ (either by Asio or CIA or probably both) after a bomb went off at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney in the 70s and that was the end of them!….In Australia anyway!

Providence have allowed the Sahayas to steal the properties but the real connection we have is the connection through Srila Prabhupada’s books and our endeavors to put it into practice. The SAHAJIYAS are after bricks and stones NOT Srila Prabhupada because they want him REPLACED with Anti Ritvik CROOKS: so they only get bricks and stones BUT not ACTUAL DEVOTIONAL SERVICE. At this time, Lord Krsna was present among His relatives who were members of the ksatriya class. To teach them through the exemplary character of King Nrga, He said: “Even though a ksatriya king may be as powerful as fire, it is not possible for him to usurp the property of a brahmana and utilize it for his own purpose. If this is so, how can ordinary kings, who falsely think of themselves the most powerful beings within the material world, usurp a brahmana’s property? I do not think that taking poison is as dangerous as taking a brahmana’s property. For ordinary poison there is treatment–one can be relieved from its effects; BUT IF ONE DRINKS THE POISON OF TAKING A BRAHMANA’S PROPERTY, THERE IS NO REMEDY FOR THE MISTAKE. The perfect example was King Nrga. He was very powerful and very pious, but due to the small mistake of unknowingly usurping a brahmana’s cow, he was condemned to the abominable life of a lizard. Ordinary poison affects only those who drink it, and ordinary fire can be extinguished simply by pouring water on it; but the arani fire ignited by the spiritual potency of a brahmana can burn to ashes the whole family of a person who provokes such a brahmana.” (Formerly, the brahmanas used to ignite the fire of sacrifice not with matches or any other external fire but with their powerful mantras, called arani.) “IF SOMEONE EVEN TOUCHES A BRAHMANA’S PROPERTY, HE IS RUINED FOR THREE GENERATIONS. HOWEVER, IF A BRAHMANA’S PROPERTY IS FORCIBLY TAKEN AWAY, THE TAKER’S FAMILY FOR TEN GENERATIONS BEFORE HIM AND FOR TEN GENERATIONS AFTER HIM WILL BE SUBJECT TO RUINATION. On the other hand, if someone becomes a Vaisnava or devotee of the Lord, ten generations of his family before his birth and ten generations after will become liberated.”
Lord Krsna continued: “IF SOME FOOLISH KING WHO IS PUFFED UP BY HIS WEALTH, PRESTIGE AND POWER WANTS TO USURP A BRAHMANA’S PROPERTY, IT SHOULD BE UNDERSTOOD THAT SUCH A KING IS CLEARING HIS PATH TO HELL; HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW MUCH HE HAS TO SUFFER FOR SUCH UNWISE ACTION. IF SOMEONE TAKES AWAY THE PROPERTY OF A VERY LIBERAL BRAHMANA WHO IS ENCUMBERED BY A LARGE DEPENDENT FAMILY, THEN SUCH A USURPER IS PUT INTO THE HELL KNOWN AS KUMBHIPAKA; NOT ONLY IS HE PUT INTO THIS HELL, BUT HIS FAMILY MEMBERS ALSO HAVE TO ACCEPT SUCH A MISERABLE CONDITION OF LIFE. A PERSON WHO TAKES AWAY PROPERTY WHICH HAS EITHER BEEN AWARDED TO A BRAHMANA OR GIVEN AWAY BY HIM IS CONDEMNED TO LIVE FOR AT LEAST 60,000 YEARS AS MISERABLY AS AN INSECT IN STOOL. THEREFORE I INSTRUCT YOU, ALL MY BOYS AND RELATIVES PRESENT HERE, DO NOT, EVEN BY MISTAKE, TAKE THE POSSESSION OF A BRAHMANA AND THEREBY POLLUTE YOUR WHOLE FAMILY. IF SOMEONE EVEN WISHES TO POSSESS SUCH PROPERTY, LET ALONE ATTEMPTS TO TAKE IT AWAY BY FORCE, THE DURATION OF HIS LIFE WILL BE REDUCED. HE WILL BE DEFEATED BY HIS ENEMIES, AND AFTER BEING BEREFT OF HIS ROYAL POSITION, WHEN HE GIVES UP HIS BODY HE WILL BECOME A SERPENT. A serpant gives trouble to all other living entities. My dear boys and relatives, I therefore advise you that even if a brahmana becomes angry with you and calls you by ill names or cuts you, still you should not retaliate. On the contrary, you should smile, tolerate him and offer your respects to the brahmana. You know very well that even I Myself offer My obeisances to the brahmanas with great respect three times daily. You should therefore follow My instruction and example. I shall not forgive anyone who does not follow them, and I shall punish him. You should learn from the example of King Nrga that even if someone unknowingly usurps the property of a brahmana, he is put into a miserable condition of life.”
Thus Lord Krsna, who is always engaged in purifying the conditioned living entities, gave instruction not only to His family members and the inhabitants of Dvaraka, but to all the members of human society.

The Lord states that as soon as one reaches Him by devotional service–which is the one and only way to approach the Personality of Godhead–one attains complete freedom from the bondage of birth and death. In other words, the path of salvation from the material clutches fully depends on the principles of knowledge and detachment gained from serving the Lord. The pseudo religionists have neither knowledge nor detachment from material affairs, for most of them want to live in the golden shackles of material bondage under the shadow of philanthropic activities disguised as religious principles. BY A FALSE DISPLAY OF RELIGIOUS SENTIMENTS, THEY PRESENT A SHOW OF DEVOTIONAL SERVICE WHILE INDULGING IN ALL SORTS OF IMMORAL ACTIVITIES. IN THIS WAY THEY PASS AS SPIRITUAL MASTERS AND DEVOTEES OF GOD. Such violators of religious principles have no respect for the authoritative acaryas, the holy teachers in the strict disciplic succession. THEY IGNORE THE VEDIC INJUNCTION ACARYOPASANA–“ONE MUST WORSHIP THE ACARYA”–and Krsna’s statement in the Bhagavad-gita (4.2) evam parampara-praptam, “This supreme science of God is received through the disciplic succession.” INSTEAD, TO MISLEAD THE PEOPLE IN GENERAL THEY THEMSELVES BECOME SO-CALLED ACARYAS, BUT THEY DO NOT EVEN FOLLOW THE PRINCIPLES OF THE ACARYAS.
THESE ROGUES ARE THE MOST DANGEROUS ELEMENTS IN HUMAN SOCIETY. BECAUSE THERE IS NO RELIGIOUS GOVERNMENT, THEY ESCAPE PUNISHMENT BY THE LAW OF THE STATE. THEY CANNOT, HOWEVER, ESCAPE THE LAW OF THE SUPREME, WHO HAS CLEARLY DECLARED IN THE BHAGAVAD-GITA THAT ENVIOUS DEMONS IN THE GARB OF RELIGIOUS PROPAGANDISTS SHALL BE THROWN INTO THE DARKEST REGIONS OF HELL (BG. 16.19-20). SRI ISOPANISAD CONFIRMS THAT THESE PSEUDO RELIGIONISTS ARE HEADING TOWARD THE MOST OBNOXIOUS PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THEIR SPIRITUAL MASTER BUSINESS, WHICH THEY CONDUCT SIMPLY FOR SENSE GRATIFICATION.
