Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s original book:
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, His Life and Precepts (PDF)
“The object of this little book is to bring the holy life of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and his precepts to the notice of the educated and religious people. Most of the books treating on these subjects have hitherto been printed in Bengali character. Hence the life and precepts of Chaitanya have scarcely passed beyond the boundaries of Bengal.”
(Kedaranath Dutt Bhaktivinoda, 1896)
Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura sent his book, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, His Life and Precepts, to McGill University in Montreal in 1896, the same year that Srila Prabhupada took birth in this world. Srila Prabhupada considered this to be a significant event and later dedicated his own book, Teachings of Lord Caitanya, as follows:
DEDICATED TO
The Sacred Service of
SRILA SACHCHIDANANDA BHAKTIVINODE THAKUR
Who Initiated The Teachings of Lord Chaitanya in
The Western World (McGill University, Canada) in 1896
The Year Of My Birth
A.C. BHAKTIVEDANTA SWAMI
Note: Srila Prabhupada considered this book and the timing of its arrival in the West significant.
