Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released a special commemorative coin on the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Ji today via video conference. Union Minister For Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Shri G Kishan Reddy, among others, was present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister mentioned the happy coincidence of Janmashtami day before and the 125th birth anniversary of Srila Prabhupada ji. ‘It is like achieving happiness and contentment of sadhana together. He also noted that the occasion is taking place amidst the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit mahotsav. This is how millions of followers of Srila Prabhupada Swami and millions of Krishna devotees all over the world are experiencing today’, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister noted the supernatural devotion of Prabhupada Swami for Lord Krishna and said that he was also a great devotee of Bharat. He fought in the freedom struggle of the country. He had refused to take his diploma from Scottish College in support of the non-cooperation movement, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister said our knowledge of yoga spread all over the world and sustainable lifestyle of India, science like Ayurveda are spread all over the world.It is our resolve that the whole world should benefit from it, Shri Modi said. The Prime Minister said whenever we go to any other country, and when people meet there saying ‘Hare Krishna’, we feel a sense of belonging and pride. The Prime Minister said that in the times of slavery, Bhakti kept the spirit of India alive. He said today scholars assess that if there was no social revolution of the Bhakti period, it would have been difficult to imagine the status and form of India. Bhakti connected the creature with God by removing the dicrimination of faith, social hierarchies and privileges. Even in those difficult times, saints like Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who tied the society with the spirit of devotion and gave the mantra of ‘Faith to Confidence’.

You have to meet many opposing elements in the matter of preaching work therefore you should always be careful to follow the principles of Bhagavad-gita as it is. There are two classes of men in this world. One is called daiva, and the other is called asura. Asura means rebelled against God: “Don’t care for God. I am God. You are God. Everyone is God. Why you are searching after God? There are so many Gods in the streets, lying on the footpath, daridra-narayana. You serve these Gods.” You see? This is illusion. Daridra-narayana, starving God. So many subscription are raised in America in the name of serving these daridra-narayanas in India. Now these Americans are questioning that “You take money for serving the daridra-narayana. Why we see…? When we go to India, why we see so many daridra-narayanas are lying on the footpath?” These questions are being made. One of the big Ramakrishna Mission swamis, Swami Nikhilananda, he told me. It is not my manufactured story. Actually, people are claiming welfare society, welfare activities. But what welfare they are doing actually? The welfare activities are increasing, and the candidates for receiving the welfare, they are increasing. You are trying to serve the daridra-narayana, but actually the number of daridra-narayanas are increasing daily. So that is the position. Here, practically, NARAYANA CANNOT BE DARIDRA. THAT IS ANOTHER ILLUSION. NARAYANA IS THE HUSBAND OF THE GODDESS OF FORTUNE, LAKSMI. HOW HE CAN BE DARIDRA? It is also manufactured word. Laksmi-sahasra-sata-sambhrama-sevyamanam govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami. Here we keep one Laksmi, but as soon as there is any little discrepancy, the Laksmi immediately becomes angry and there is divorce. Practically there is no respect from the side of Laksmi to the so-called daridra-narayana. But there, thousands and thousands of Laksmis are very respectfully serving the Lord. You’ll read in the story of Rukmini, the prime Laksmi of Lord Krsna. One day Krsna was a little joking, and she took it very seriously, and she immediately fainted. So much respect. “Oh, Krsna might be thinking of leaving me.” So she fainted immediately. So much sambhrama. Laksmi-sahasra-sata-sambhrama-sevyamanam. These are the statements of scripture. And when Krsna was actually present on the planet, He showed it, how much He is respectfully served by His sixteen thousand wives, and how much comfortably He kept all of them in different palaces, and expanding Himself into sixteen thousand forms. That is God. That is God. So everyone, even the Laksmi is servant, maidservant of Krsna, what to speak of others? Dasi. So how one can claim that “I am God”? God is not so cheap. Only persons who are illusioned, they claim that “I am God.” He is servant. Instead of becoming, voluntarily rendering service to God, because they claim to be God they are more put into illusion. Maya-grasta jivera sei dasa upajaya. It is said in the Vaisnava literature, pisaci paile yena mati-cchanna haya, maya-grasta jivera sei dasa upajaya: “Just like a person, when he is haunted by ghosts, he speaks all kinds of nonsense, similarly, when a living entity is engrossed by the illusory aspect of this material nature, he also talks all foolishly.” He also talks… One of the greatest foolish things is that he claims that “I am God.
SB 3.15.25 P Description of the Kingdom of God
Brahmaji confirms herewith that only persons who have developed the desirable qualities can enter into the kingdom of God. In the Caitanya-caritamrta, the devotee’s desirable qualities are described to be twenty-six in number. They are stated as follows: He is very kind; he does not quarrel with anyone; he accepts Krsna consciousness as the highest goal of life; he is equal to everyone; no one can find fault in his character; he is magnanimous, mild and always clean, internally and externally; he does not profess to possess anything in this material world; he is a benefactor to all living entities; he is peaceful and is a soul completely surrendered to Krsna; he has no material desire to fulfill; he is meek and humble, always steady, and has conquered the sensual activities; he does not eat more than required to maintain body and soul together; he is never mad after material identity; he is respectful to all others and does not demand respect for himself; he is very grave, very compassionate and very friendly; he is poetic; he is expert in all activities, and he is silent in nonsense. Similarly, in Srimad-Bhagavatam, Third Canto, Twenty-fifth Chapter, verse 21, the qualifications of a saintly person are mentioned. IT IS SAID THERE THAT A SAINTLY PERSON ELIGIBLE TO ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS VERY TOLERANT AND VERY KIND TO ALL LIVING ENTITIES. HE IS NOT PARTIAL; HE IS KIND BOTH TO HUMAN BEINGS AND TO ANIMALS. HE IS NOT SUCH A FOOL THAT HE WILL KILL A GOAT NARAYANA TO FEED A HUMAN NARAYANA, OR DARIDRA-NARAYANA. HE IS VERY KIND TO ALL LIVING ENTITIES; THEREFORE HE HAS NO ENEMY. HE IS VERY PEACEFUL. THESE ARE THE QUALITIES OF PERSONS WHO ARE ELIGIBLE TO ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD. That such a person gradually becomes liberated and enters the kingdom of God is confirmed in Srimad-Bhagavatam, Fifth Canto, Fifth Chapter, verse 2. The Srimad-Bhagavatam, Second Canto, Third Chapter, verse 24, also states that if a person does not cry or exhibit bodily changes after chanting the holy name of God without offense, it is to be understood that he is hardhearted and that therefore his heart does not change even after he chants the holy name of God, Hare Krsna. Simply their business is killing. So it is very difficult to find out a Christian, although they are claiming, I am “Christian.” It is very difficult. Because their business is killing. And Lord Jesus Christ ordered, first order is, “Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not covet.” Who is following?
So sadhu is suhrdam sarva-bhutanam. Why he should allow animal killing? They are also living entities, but for their benefit, the so-called sadhu says, “The animal has no soul.” What is this nonsense? Animal has no soul? Why? Why animal has… What is the difference between animal and man? What are the symptoms of possessing the soul? They are all equal. The man also eats, the animal also eats. The man also sleeps, the animal also sleeps, the man also have sex life, the animals also have sex life. The man also defends, the animals also defends. So where is the deficiency that you say that the animal has no soul?

So how this can be possible? This suhrdah sarva-dehinam is possible when one has surrendered himself to the Supreme Being. On His account, because he has surrendered to the Supreme Being, he is friend to all living being. Artificially you cannot. Artificially you select some section, the poorer section, and worship him like Narayana, and you call him daridra-narayana. But a devotee, if he has got vision of Narayana, he will see the daridra-narayana, the rich Narayana, the chaga-narayana, and the every Narayana, panditah sama-darsinah. WHY A SECTION SHOULD BE CALLED NARAYANA? If you have got such broader vision, that you are seeing Narayana in everything, then what the rich man has done? He is also Narayana. And the goat has… He is also Narayana. The cow, he is also Narayana. Then you should… IF YOU HAVE SUCH BROADER VISION, THAT YOU SEE EVERYWHERE NARAYANA, THEN WHY SHOULD YOU SPECIFY A SECTION, DARIDRA-NARAYANA?

IF YOU HAVE GOT SUCH VISION THAT NARAYANA IS EVERYWHERE, WHY SHOULD YOU DISTINGUISH DARIDRA-NARAYANA, DHANI-NARAYANA, COW-NARAYANA, GOAT-NARAYANA? IT IS NOT THAT FOR THE HUMANKIND JUST LIKE IT IS GOING ON, NATIONALITY. WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE “NATIONALITY”? “NATIONALITY” MEANS ONE WHO IS BORN IN THAT COUNTRY. THIS IS THE GENERAL DEFINITION. SO WHY YOU ARE GIVING PROTECTION TO THE HUMAN BEING AND KILLING THE COWS AND GOATS? THEY ARE NOT NATIONAL? THIS MEANS SHORT-SIGHTED. BECAUSE THEY HAVEN’T GOT KRSNA CONSCIOUSNESS THEY ARE ALWAYS CRIPPLED. They do not know what is the meaning of nationalism, but they are pushing on nationalism. Rascalism.
Here is nationalism, that isavasyam idam sarvam: everything belongs to God. And Krsna says bhoktaram yajna-tapasam sarva-loka-mahesvaram. He’s the proprietor. He’s the proprietor; everyone is His subject. Everyone requires protection. That is nationalism. IF I SIMPLY BY SENTIMENT GIVE UP, BRAHMA SATYAM JAGAN MITHYA, “THIS WORLD IS FALSE AND BRAHMAN IS THE REAL, REALITY,” SO THERE ARE SO MANY SANNYASIS, WE SEE, THEY GIVE UP THE SO-CALLED MITHYA WORLD AND COME TO THE BRAHMAN REALIZATION BY MEDITATION, BY MEDITATION, MEDITATION… THEN MEDITATION MEANS HOSPITAL AND SCHOOL. BECAUSE THERE IS NO BRAHMAN, THERE IS NO REALITY. SO AFTER MUCH MEDITATION, (HE) COMES TO THE CONCLUSION THAT “NOW I AM A SANNYASI. I MUST OPEN SCHOOLS, COLLEGE AND DARIDRA-NARAYANA SEVA AND GOAT-NARAYANA KILLING.” THIS KIND OF SANNYASA HAS NO MEANING. DARIDRA-NARAYANA SEVA. BY KILLING GOAT NARAYANA. GOAT IS NOT NARAYANA. SIMPLY DARIDRAS ARE NARAYANA. IF YOU ACCEPT ONE AS NARAYANA, WHY SHOULD YOU NOT ACCEPT THE OTHER AS NARAYANA?
SO THIS KIND OF FALSE SANNYASA IS NOT ACCEPTED BY THE VAISNAVAS. VAISNAVAS, THEY ACCEPT SANNYASA FOR BETTER ACTIVITIES. FOR BETTER ACTIVITIES MEANS DEDICATED LIFE FOR SATISFYING THE SUPREME LORD. MAM EKAM SARANAM VRAJA. ANYONE WHO HAS SACRIFICED HIS LIFE FOR KRSNA, HE’S SANNYASA. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita: anasritah karma-phalam karyam karma karoti yah, sa sannyasi. Na niragnir na cakriyah. One who has given up… A sannyasi is not supposed to cook. Ni, niragnih. And na niragnir na yogi. But anasritah karma-phalam. Tyagi means karma-phala tyaga. This is tyaga, real tyaga. Suppose you are working. You are doing some business and getting lakhs of rupees’ profit. If you can give up that profit for Krsna, that is sannyasa. Otherwise, “I shall enjoy fully the profit and I have become a great devotee”? No. Sannyasa means, as it is stated, anasritah karma-phalam. Karma-phalam. There must be some karma-phala, whatever you do. There must be some result, bad or good. So anasritah, without taking shelter of the result of activities, karyam karma karo… “It is my duty.” Just like Arjuna did. Arjuna understood that Krsna wanted the fight. He took it, karyam, that “I, this, this, I must do. This I must do. Krsna wants it. Because my business is to satisfy Krsna. MAYAVADI SANNYASIS ADDRESS EACH OTHER AS NARAYANA. Whenever they see another sannyasi, they offer him respect by calling om namo narayanaya (“I offer my respect unto you, Narayana”), although they know perfectly well what kind of Narayana he is. NARAYANA HAS FOUR HANDS, BUT ALTHOUGH THEY ARE PUFFED UP WITH THE IDEA OF BEING NARAYANA, THEY CANNOT EXHIBIT MORE THAN TWO. SINCE THEIR PHILOSOPHY DECLARES THAT NARAYANA AND AN ORDINARY HUMAN BEING ARE BOTH ON THE SAME LEVEL, THEY SOMETIMES USE THE TERM DARIDRA-NARAYANA (“POOR NARAYANA”), WHICH WAS INVENTED BY A SO-CALLED SVAMI WHO DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT VEDANTA PHILOSOPHY. Therefore although all these Mayavadi sannyasis who called themselves Narayana were actually unaware of the position of Narayana, due to their austerities Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu enabled them to understand Him to be Narayana Himself. Lord Caitanya is certainly the Supreme Personality of Godhead Narayana appearing as a devotee of Narayana, and thus the Mayavadi sannyasis, understanding that He was directly Narayana Himself whereas they were false, puffed-up Narayanas, spoke to Him as follows.
