Helpless – {Poem}

HELPLESS

Helpless in birth
And helpless in death
Helpless along the way
Wading knee-deep through the messy mess

Defenceless against attackers
Defenceless against the blaze
Is there anything we can do?
Or are we helpless with rage?
Forgetful of the beginning
Trying to forget the end
Forgetting that every new beginning
Gives rise to a new end.

Careless in eating
And reckless in drinking
Careless in speaking
and whimsical in thinking

Without mercy for one another
And without mercy to the weak
Without mercy for oneself
Without being humble and meek

Subjected to the state
Unprotected by the laws
We are utterly helpless
And surrounded by so many flaws

Fearful in the beginning
And full of fear toward the end
Fear left, right and center
Fearful at every bend

Ignorant of the real self
Mistaking ignorance to be bliss
Ignorant of the laws of karma
This is where we missed

So sweet in the beginning
So poisonous in the end
What do we have to do?
Repent, repent, repeatedly repent?

Pray for help to the demigods
Indra, Chandra and the sun
Pray for help to God Vishnu
He is second to none

Get rain from Lord Indra
Get light from the sun
Get protection from Lord Vishnu
The Number One of all Ones

Every beginning has an end
Every end has a new beginning
When we turn to Lord Vishnu Krsna
that is our real life’s beginning.

Lord Krsna is the Greatest
Lord Krsna is the Best
He is the protector of all the Gods
And the protector of all the rest

Protecting the worlds
Protecting the creations
Protecting the universes
Protecting its emanations

He is the protector of His servants
The protector of the Pure Devotees
The protector of their servants
And the protector of their aspiring servants

He is the ultimate end
He is the ultimate destination
He is the ultimate goal
He is the ultimate inspiration

Whatever in this whole wide world is out there
Is nothing but him in the ultimate sphere

He knows what you are thinking
He knows about your dreams
He knows all about you
And much more it seems

Just surrender to Him
That is His innermost desire
And it is the best for you too
Being caught up in this mire

Thank you Lord Krsna for being a friend
Thank you Lord Krsna for giving full protection
To all who want to get out of the material reflection
