“Little Krishna” is based principally on Srila Prabhupada’s Krishna-Book “Kṛṣṇa, The Supreme Personality of Godhead” and is a huge production and the quality of the animation is world-class. Hundreds of people worked on this both in India and in the United States. It has been amazingly successful in India as a 13 part series broadcast nationally on the NickTV network. The original DVDs feature English audio with Hindi Subtitles.

Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, also known as the KRSNA Book, is a summary and commentary on the Tenth Canto of the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda. It was published in 1970 by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust.
Śrīla Prabhupāda: “I have given my readers the book Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, so that if I die before finishing the whole task [Śrīmad Bhāgavatam], they may enjoy this Kṛṣṇa-Book, which is the essence of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.”
The publication of Kṛṣṇa-Book was financed through a contribution of $19,000 from ex-Beatle, George Harrison, who also wrote the book’s foreword.
George Harrison: “Everybody is looking for Kṛṣṇa. Some don’t realize that they are, but they are. KṚṢṆA is GOD, the source of all that exists, the Cause of all that is, was, or ever will be. As GOD is unlimited, HE has many Names. Allah-Buddha-Jehova-Rama: ALL are KṚṢṆA, all are ONE.
God is not abstract; He has both the impersonal and the personal aspects to His personality, which is SUPREME, ETERNAL, BLISSFUL, and full of KNOWLEDGE. As a single drop of water has the same qualities as an ocean of water, so has our consciousness the qualities of GOD’S consciousness … but through our identification and attachment with material energy (physical body, sense pleasures, material possessions, ego, etc.) our true TRANSCENDENTAL CONSCIOUSNESS has been polluted, and like a dirty mirror it is unable to reflect a pure image.
With many lives our association with the TEMPORARY has grown. This impermanent body, a bag of bones and flesh, is mistaken for our true self, and we have accepted this temporay condition to be final.
Through all ages, great SAINTS have remained as living proof that this non-temporary, permanent state of GOD CONSCIOUSNESS can be revived in all living Souls. Each soul is potentially divine.
Kṛṣṇa says in Bhagavad Gita: “Steady in the Self, being freed from all material contamination, the yogi achieves the highest perfectional stage of happiness in touch with the Supreme Consciousness.” (VI, 28)
YOGA (a scientific method for GOD (SELF) realization) is the process by which we purify our consciousness, stop further pollution, and arrive at the state of Perfection, full KNOWLEDGE, full BLISS.
If there’s a God, I want to see Him. It’s pointless to believe in something without proof, and Kṛṣṇa Consciousness and meditation are methods where you can actually obtain GOD perception. You can actually see God, and hear Him, play with Him. It might sound crazy, but He is actually there, actually with you.
There are many yogic Paths—Raja, Jnana, Hatha, Kriya, Karma, Bhakti—which are all acclaimed by the MASTERS of each method.
SWAMI BHAKTIVEDANTA is as his title says, a BHAKTI Yogi following the path of DEVOTION. By serving GOD through each thought, word and DEED, and by chanting HIS Holy Names, the devotee quickly develops God-consciousness. By chanting
Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare
Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare
One inevitable arrives at KṚṢṆA Consciousness. (The proof of the pudding is in the eating!)
I request that you take advantage of this book KṚṢṆA, and enter into its understanding. I also request that you make an appointment to meet your God now, through the self liberating process of YOGA (UNION) and GIVE PEACE A CHANCE. (George Harrison)
Now these books will certainly stir some interest for new comers.
I have two original sets. I am not particularly interested in the animation series just because I am more of a reader when it comes to the Krsna Book stories. Back in the early 70’s in Toronto at the New Remuna Temple we used to read Krsna book for a half hour before taking rest. That is a habit I should take up again.
I particularly like The Description of Autmn.
Thank you for the reminder.
Yes prabhu, my wife & I read original Krsna Book together in the evenings before rest…very special.
We started with the little boxed ‘trilogy’ set that we sold thousands of in the 70s, but finding the print too tiny, got a new ‘original’ 2 Volume Set from Krishna Books Inc.
I can’t comment on the Animation Series, haven’t watched it, but there has been controversy from what I’ve heard.
Ys, Balaram das.
Balaram das: I can’t comment on the Animation Series, haven’t watched it, but there has been controversy from what I’ve heard.
Mahesh: Srila Prabhupada NEVER INTRODUCED Lord Krishna as cartoon character; on the contrary he was AGAINST this:
71-08-18. Letter: Madhusudana
The point is that these drawings should be realistic. Not that you make Krishna a cartoon character and therefore laughing stock. And hippy ideas shouldn’t be used either. Whatever technique is there, make it realistic. That will be nice.
I watched about one minute of it and that was enough for me!
So when you pick the fruit off your mango tree just gorge yourself on it but don’t think of offering any to Krishna! …. but you may want to inform Him that you will ‘offer your remnants’ to Nanda Maharaja!
INFANTILE, PUERILE NONSENSE!
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, when he was a very small child, took a mango which was meant for an offering to Lord Krishna, but had not been offered, so his father informed him of this.
He (Srila Bhaktisiddhanta) felt so upset that he made a vow, to never in his whole life eat another mango (even though it was not such an offense, as he was very small). He would always refuse mango.
This is an example of spiritual strength through austerity as mangoes are a delicious fruit and quite prolific in India and for small child there is no great fault.
How can a genre so fake try to represent something so real?
Srila Prabhupada was not wanting to portray Krsna Lila as ‘fictional’, as 100% of cartoons are.
I’ve never watched the cartoons or seen the kids Lila books, but if there are no descriptive ‘purports’ in them, as there are in the Prabhupada’s books with Bhaktivedanta Purports to explain the philosophy, they will be just taken as fiction. Also drawing Krsna in this ‘cartoon style’ looks weird and out of proportion, along with most fictional cartoon characters.
There’s no problem with artists drawing or painting Krsna Lila, Prabhupada says “Whatever technique is there, make it realistic. That will be nice.”
Srila Prabhupada also stopped the yoga village & music roadshows, but they also still keep them going. So what can you expect from these miscreants, who ignore Prabhupada’s instructions and change his Divine books to try and justify their futile attempts to gain PAD!
