The Transcendental Fortune Teller
By: Hansadutta Das
I can tell everyone’s fortune, even my own….
“There is BIRTH and DEATH, in between there is OLD AGE and DISEASE” and baked into this sweet cake of life (KUCHEN) are three other ingredients, adhiatmika, adhidaivika, adhibhautika. ***
The cake of life is eaten with six other preparations, they are – lust, anger, greed, lamentation, illusion and topped off with a strong cup of MADNESS (Like a cup of strong coffee) as in a German – “Kaffee-Stube” – where friends, lovers and countrymen gather to “chit-chat” (Kaffee-Klatsch) – prajalpa ) about their – birth – death – old age and diseases -, oblivious that their small spot of life is dwindling away, like the sand running down in an hour glass.
When the “Kaffee-Klatsch” is over, the friends, lovers and country men will disperse, each going their own way to pursue various plans and schemes for counteracting the problems and obstacles encountered while dreaming and hoping for romantic, economic and social harmony bliss and happiness . The plans are gorgeous, bombastic, Idealistic and utopian, all aiming at avoiding the perpetual sufferings which keep appearing – unasked for – in the course of the human society both, past and at the present.
Some of these plans are very ambitious, such as STOPPING OLD AGE, DEATH, DISEASE AND BIRTH – BY ABORTION. Other plans such as going to the moon and mars, etc… class-less society, equal status for women with men, same sex marriage, creating LIFE from chemicals are also high on their agenda.
They award each other with prizes, such as MAN OF THE YEAR – NOBEL PEACE PRIZE – ACADEMY AWARDS – SEXIEST MAN ALIVE …., and many others, but till now even great powerful and intelligent men have been unable to survive the four great obstacles – BIRTH, DEATH, OLD AGE AND DEATH.
Einstein, although highly honoured for his extra ordinary intelligence, he could not create a brain in duplication of his own, or find the MISSING ingredient, a pill perhaps – that when swallowed would make him live forever. Napoleon, Hitler, Kennedy, Mao Zedong, none of them could save themselves from these four principles. Neither will I or anyone in the future.
So this is my fortune telling ability. I am always 100% per cent accurate.
Unfortunately I cannot earn a good living as a fortune teller, because most people are so busy pursuing Happiness and trying to avoid distress, that they have no time to hear my predictions.
So I have to be satisfied with whatever comes my way by the grace of God-Krishna, and Srila Prabhupada.

All schemes are only useless scraps of paper in the face of war, famine, earthquakes and other disasters. All these disasters are warnings from Mother Durga, and by them she confirms her eternal superiority over the illusioned plan makers.
When there was an earthquake in Los Angeles, everyone ran out their houses screaming. Everyone was terrified, thinking, “Now death is coming!” This is material nature. There are many events in nature that cause fear. There are great cyclones and tornadoes. There is excessive heat and excessive rain. There is flood and famine and war. Yet people are thinking of being happy on this planet. (Teaching of Lord Kapila Vs. 42 purport)
Miserable conditions brought about by natural catastrophes are controlled by the higher demigods. There may be severe cold or thunderbolts, or a person may be haunted by ghosts. Sometimes we suffer bodily when we are attacked by a fever, and sometimes we suffer mentally when a close relative dies. Other living entities also cause us misery. There are living entities born of the human embryo, of eggs, perspiration and vegetation. The threefold material miseries are miseries arising from the body and the mind, miseries arising from dealings with other living entities, and miseries arising from natural disturbances. These threefold miseries are always before us, and they entrap us in a dangerous situation. Padam padam yad vipadam. There is danger in every step of life.
*** Our sufferings are classified as adhibhautika, adhyatmika, and adhidaivika.
Adhyatmika miseries are those caused by our own bodies and minds, adhibhautika miseries are those inflicted by other living entities, and adhidaivika miseries are those which are inflicted by higher authorities (devas) and which are completely beyond our control — such as earthquake, drought, flood, and famine. We cannot adjust these situations. In the same way, after death superior authorities will offer us a certain type of body, and we cannot say, “Oh no, sir, I do not want this body.” We have to accept it.
