Great idea, Bhakta Philip Prabhu. Why didn’t I think of that?
Posted by Pritha devi dasi, Wed, Mar 3, 2010: In 1996, I sent the Archives the URL of an article about how to make exact, high-quality digital copies of audio recordings for archival purposes using a method developed by Sony. I got a polite reply. Something like, “We’ll look into it.” Therefore, I assumed that they were doing the needful.
I was shocked when I recently found out that even after so many years, nothing has been done except to make some heavily edited audio cassettes, CDs and MP3s to sell to try to make as much money as possible, while letting the original unedited versions of Srila Prabhupada’s priceless audio legacy deteriorate!
The Archives has their priorities mixed up. Their modus operandi seems to be, “If the time and/or place are unknown, if the quality is poor, or if the tape is “too controversial,” then let it decompose, so, in the near future, it will become unplayable. Then we’ll have a good excuse for not having to bother with it.”
The Archives claims that they are getting out of the publishing business, but actually, that’s all that they do. No archiving, just publishing! Now they are working on a new version of the MP3 library and a new version of the VedaBase. That’s called publishing! IMHO, they are grhasthas (grhamedhis?) simply using Srila Prabhupada as their “sugar daddy” so that they can have a comfortable life in the country!
